[00:00:21] Uncensored Home for World of Warcraft news and opinions. This is Unshackled Fury.
[00:01:00] 2024 is drawing to a close, and Warcraft's future is only getting brighter as we look back on the year that was.
[00:01:12] Welcome back for Episode 157 of your Uncensored Home for World of Warcraft news and opinions on Unshackled Fury.
[00:01:21] I'm your host Berzerker, and with me once again is the gift that keeps on giving, Mr. Jez Corden.
[00:01:29] Welcome back again, good sir.
[00:01:32] Hello, hello, hello. How's it going?
[00:01:35] I missed your illustrious intro there because something went wrong with my headset, but it's...
[00:01:39] I got it working at exactly the right time. So, hello, hello, and...
[00:01:44] Hello.
[00:01:45] How's it going?
[00:01:46] Well, it's going. It's going. We're here. We're here.
[00:01:53] Last episode of the year for us today, right off the top, let people know.
[00:01:58] Um, this will be the last episode of the year. So we'll be doing our year in review, the year that was.
[00:02:05] Looking back on, uh, all kinds of stuff that we talked about and covered or maybe didn't cover.
[00:02:11] I don't know. I'll have to look at my notes and maybe it'll even surprise me.
[00:02:14] Uh, but looking back, uh, and we're going to be on a bit of a break, holiday break.
[00:02:18] Uh, there's just frankly too fucking much stuff going on this time of the year.
[00:02:24] And I know there's traveling and there's stuff going on.
[00:02:30] So, uh, we're going to be on break for a bit.
[00:02:33] This might be a bit of a longer break, uh, given my schedule.
[00:02:36] Uh, probably looking at mid to late January by the time we come back.
[00:02:42] So, um, yeah, I'm sure we'll have something to talk about by then.
[00:02:47] Not that we don't now, but, uh, I'm sure we'll have, uh, plenty there.
[00:02:52] And, uh, between now and then, uh, Jez, if you'll recall on the last episode of this illustrious program,
[00:02:59] this, uh, this piece of cinema that you and I, uh, have put together.
[00:03:05] You'll recall the last time I was, uh, quite apoplectic about the lack of hate forged blaze cycles.
[00:03:14] Well, yes. Apoplectic. That's a good word.
[00:03:17] I, thank you.
[00:03:19] I have to, uh, put out a huge thank you to a member of the unshackled fury community,
[00:03:24] a roguish member of our community who hooked me up with a code or a hate forged blaze cycle.
[00:03:31] And I, you know, I want to be transparent in all these things.
[00:03:34] I never do this because I'm begging for things or asking for things,
[00:03:38] but I do want to recognize that, uh, somebody out of the kindness of their own heart felt, uh,
[00:03:44] felt it appropriate to, to send me one of those and my, my deepest gratitude,
[00:03:48] because I'll be riding that fucker from here to eternity.
[00:03:51] Uh, cause that is a, that is a fantastic ground mount, uh, for us.
[00:03:57] And, uh, yeah, there's another one, but they haven't got it yet.
[00:04:00] So this is the only one for now.
[00:04:01] Very excited.
[00:04:03] Uh, but I also got my hands on one.
[00:04:05] Oh, which I sh I shouldn't be able to because it's not available in Europe.
[00:04:09] How did you do that?
[00:04:11] So someone from my other podcast, uh, my Xbox podcast,
[00:04:16] they, they, they were listening to me.
[00:04:18] They were listening to me complain about it and they, uh, they hooked me up.
[00:04:21] Oh my God.
[00:04:22] Very lucky as well.
[00:04:24] Riding hard that warlock.
[00:04:27] Yeah.
[00:04:27] I was, uh, I was in doing a goal with it and like everyone was gathering around
[00:04:31] cause no one's got them in Europe.
[00:04:33] So it's pretty cool.
[00:04:36] Look at you.
[00:04:36] I felt special for a moment.
[00:04:38] The big celebrity.
[00:04:39] Look at you.
[00:04:40] Unbelievable.
[00:04:41] Now this is what Warcraft can do for you folks.
[00:04:44] Uh, otherwise, uh, jazz, all things well in the world of, uh, Mr. Corden
[00:04:48] and the, uh, Windows central gang.
[00:04:52] Yeah.
[00:04:52] It's been a hard couple of weeks.
[00:04:54] It's been, um, black Friday, which is a busy time for bloggers, you know,
[00:05:00] recommending products and all that fun stuff, but it's all done now and all over with.
[00:05:05] And I can just sort of breathe and let my head down now for the rest of the year.
[00:05:08] There you go.
[00:05:09] Which is nice.
[00:05:09] I have barely touched.
[00:05:11] Because of, because of that workload.
[00:05:13] So I'm a little bit out of the loop.
[00:05:15] So you're going to have to fill me in a little bit.
[00:05:17] All right.
[00:05:18] All right.
[00:05:18] Well, we'll, uh, we'll definitely be getting to some stuff here, uh, later in the show
[00:05:22] about where we are and exciting things, uh, potentially coming up this month.
[00:05:27] But, uh, between now and then jazz, I've got our last metal album of the week.
[00:05:38] And I don't know, maybe it says a little something about where my head is at.
[00:05:42] Uh, who knows?
[00:05:43] Hmm.
[00:05:44] Maybe.
[00:05:44] Essentially.
[00:05:45] Uh, but from July 14th released July 14th, 1992 countdown to extinction by mega death.
[00:05:59] Oh dear.
[00:06:02] And if you don't know, mega death, mega death is one of the, what we call the big four
[00:06:08] and the metal scene.
[00:06:09] And this is only the second of those four, uh, or no, the third of those four, uh, that
[00:06:14] I've, that I've brought up, uh, one more, uh, remains and, uh, I'll, I'll pick a time
[00:06:19] and place for that one, I think.
[00:06:20] Uh, but countdown to extinction.
[00:06:22] This, this is one of their best albums.
[00:06:26] Uh, some certified bangers on this one, symphony of destruction, the title track countdown
[00:06:32] to extinction, foreclosure of a dream, sweating bullets, skin of my teeth.
[00:06:36] Like these are some classic mega death songs.
[00:06:39] And this truly is, I think one of, uh, one of the best albums to listen to just front
[00:06:44] to back.
[00:06:44] It's, it's a, it's a whole album listener.
[00:06:47] Not one of these, you bought the CD or the tape back in the day for just one song.
[00:06:51] Uh, no, this is, this is, this is the whole damn thing.
[00:06:54] But, um, this album definitely has certain political and military undertones to it.
[00:07:03] Uh, it was written during the time of the first Gulf war, uh, touches topics of suicide and taxation.
[00:07:10] And there's a lot of stuff going on in it.
[00:07:13] Uh, I, you know, have to separate the art from the artist a little bit.
[00:07:17] Cause I think Dave must stay in long time front man of the band who is, I think fired
[00:07:22] more people than anybody.
[00:07:23] Uh, he's gone in a direction.
[00:07:27] I'm not really sure I can, I can never follow, but, uh, a lot of great statements being made
[00:07:32] on this album and things that I think are truly still relevant 30 plus years later.
[00:07:38] Uh, I think to most people, if not everyone.
[00:07:41] Um, but it is a, it is a really excellent metal album.
[00:07:46] Uh, very toned down, very, very simple, nothing too crazy, just straight up classic metal.
[00:07:53] And, uh, I think it has some, some topics worth pondering.
[00:07:57] Uh, let's say so, uh, jazz, are you, are you familiar with this album, uh, at all, or
[00:08:03] at least Megadeth?
[00:08:04] No, I mean, I know of Megadeth.
[00:08:06] It's hard not to, but I, I've never really listened to them.
[00:08:10] Honestly, it's, uh, that, that, that era of metal is not my era of metal.
[00:08:16] So a lot, a lot of the times when I listen to that kind of stuff, it, it just, it just
[00:08:20] kind of reminds me of, I suppose my parents generation a little bit, no offense.
[00:08:27] No offense.
[00:08:28] It's all right.
[00:08:29] No offense taken.
[00:08:31] No offense taken.
[00:08:32] Yeah.
[00:08:33] I grew up on the corns and the slip knots of the universe.
[00:08:36] So you're a new metal guy.
[00:08:38] Yeah.
[00:08:39] Well, I dunno.
[00:08:40] I kind of, my, my taste evolved, I suppose beyond them, but that's, that was my era.
[00:08:45] You know, that what I consider classic metal slip knot, I suppose.
[00:08:49] A bit of a bit of Limp Bizkit, you know,
[00:08:52] Listen, I've seen Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit making the hell of a resurgence in the last year
[00:08:56] or two.
[00:08:57] I mean, he looks like Santa Claus now, but it's, it's, it's classic now it's back.
[00:09:01] It's old.
[00:09:02] It's new again.
[00:09:02] It's true.
[00:09:03] You know, I mean, so you want about Limp Bizkit.
[00:09:06] They've got some awesome musicians in that band.
[00:09:08] Like, even if like, some of the, some of the music's a bit, you know, corny, I suppose.
[00:09:13] Um, but.
[00:09:14] Wes Borland is a legit guitarist.
[00:09:16] Wes Borland, yeah.
[00:09:18] He's legit.
[00:09:18] Yeah.
[00:09:19] He's legit.
[00:09:20] But, um, but no, I don't know Megadeth so well.
[00:09:22] Um, I've barely been listening to any music recently.
[00:09:26] Just so, so busy.
[00:09:29] Kind of sucks, man.
[00:09:30] When you're so busy that you can't even listen to music, that is, that might be the true mark
[00:09:35] of a, of a, of a very full agenda in your life.
[00:09:38] Too full.
[00:09:39] Indeed.
[00:09:40] Too full.
[00:09:40] Too full.
[00:09:42] Well, there you go, folks.
[00:09:43] Uh, that is the recommendation.
[00:09:45] The final recommendation for the year and something that to, uh, ponder on is countdown
[00:09:49] to extinction by Megadeth released July 14th, 1992.
[00:09:52] Again, uh, certified metal banger.
[00:09:55] Lots of great, uh, tracks on that one.
[00:09:58] Now last rage topic of the year and another, I think universal challenge that needs to be
[00:10:08] addressed.
[00:10:09] So jazz let's get into it.
[00:10:15] Let's rage.
[00:10:19] I know to look at me and be to listen to this show, you would probably not say, or the first
[00:10:31] thought that would come to your mind would probably not be that I am a man of culture,
[00:10:39] probably not spending time in symphony halls, but you would be wrong.
[00:10:45] So surprisingly enough, I do on occasion, a couple of times, a couple of few times a
[00:10:52] year, I do find my way to orchestral performances, uh, here in the Sacramento area.
[00:10:59] Uh, there, there are quite a few touring groups that come through and there's all kinds of
[00:11:03] stuff.
[00:11:03] Uh, it's not always a Christmas time with trans Siberian orchestra.
[00:11:08] Uh, you know, it's, it's like real, like legit, you know, like we had London Philharmonic type stuff,
[00:11:15] right?
[00:11:15] It's, it's the real, the real deal.
[00:11:20] And one of the things that you'll notice that is different between a show like that and
[00:11:24] a show like, I don't know, let's say you go to a metal show crowds.
[00:11:29] Sometimes they're a little bit different.
[00:11:30] Although the age of some of these metal shows are starting to creep up on those of the
[00:11:33] symphony shows.
[00:11:33] I'm not going to lie.
[00:11:35] Um, but the response, the crowd interaction, right?
[00:11:39] It's different when you're at a metal show, you're, you're jumping and banging and yelling
[00:11:43] and screaming and pumping your fist and hitting the mosh.
[00:11:45] And like, you're just, you're letting it all hang out.
[00:11:49] That's like, um, figuratively speaking figurative.
[00:11:53] Well, hopefully, hopefully, uh, you know, it's, it's like, if you go to, uh, like an MMA
[00:12:00] show, uh, you know, they go to a UFC show in Vegas, like very noisy, very loud.
[00:12:06] But if you go to a, you know, a typical show with a symphony, it's more like, um, it's
[00:12:11] more like watching old pride events, uh, in Tokyo where the crowd is very quiet, right?
[00:12:16] You wait for some moment to happen.
[00:12:18] I can use that analogy.
[00:12:20] Uh, you know, you, you wait for a song to end or you wait for something to go on, but
[00:12:24] usually, you know, it's before you clap and cheer or give your encores or whatever you're
[00:12:29] sitting mostly quietly.
[00:12:32] Right.
[00:12:34] But I have found a trend, Jess.
[00:12:36] There is this trend and I don't know if this has always happened, but I feel like it is
[00:12:40] happening more recently where the people sitting behind me feel that I didn't go there.
[00:12:47] I didn't pay to hear the orchestra jazz.
[00:12:49] I paid to hear them home along with it and not just like, hum along with it, but like,
[00:12:55] hum along with it noisily and off note off key.
[00:13:00] Damn.
[00:13:02] And I just be real.
[00:13:04] I didn't pay to hear you.
[00:13:06] I didn't pay to hear you old lady or whoever else is behind us.
[00:13:10] I paid to hear the people on stage.
[00:13:12] So if you find yourself enjoying one of these shows, keep it to yourself.
[00:13:17] No need to hum along.
[00:13:19] Nobody wants to hear that, especially when it's out of tune off key madness.
[00:13:28] Except now, sometimes you might have a great inside joke with your child where the piss
[00:13:34] off your wife every once in a while, you just go and make a bunch of humming noises.
[00:13:38] And she knows what you're talking about.
[00:13:39] She tells you both to shut the fuck up.
[00:13:40] And that is kind of fun.
[00:13:42] I'm not going to lie.
[00:13:42] That is, that is a great, uh, silver lining to such an event, but please dear God, dear
[00:13:48] Jesus, your gods in the, in the heavens.
[00:13:51] If you are at one of these shows where crowd participation is not being asked for and or
[00:13:55] required, please keep it to yourself.
[00:13:59] Thank you.
[00:14:00] Thank you for coming to this tent.
[00:14:03] All right.
[00:14:04] Uh, lots of news and review to get to now that I've got that off my,
[00:14:08] chest.
[00:14:08] So why don't we go ahead and get into it?
[00:14:21] We're kicking off the year of 2024 on unshackled fury.
[00:14:26] We had one of the most seismic events we've ever had.
[00:14:30] And it's probably the biggest thing that happened all year, which was that you Jez joined
[00:14:37] the show officially.
[00:14:38] Mm hmm.
[00:14:42] Mm hmm.
[00:14:42] Unbelievable.
[00:14:43] Woo hoo.
[00:14:43] It's almost been a year.
[00:14:45] Almost been a year.
[00:14:46] Already?
[00:14:46] God.
[00:14:47] Almost been a year.
[00:14:49] Yes.
[00:14:51] Unbelievably enough.
[00:14:52] Uh, Jez has, has chosen to join this, this crazy little, uh, shambling wagon down
[00:14:59] the road and, uh, we've been having some fun this year and enjoying all the crazy shit that's
[00:15:05] been popping up.
[00:15:05] And Jez, I know we've all enjoyed getting a fresh perspective on particularly the business
[00:15:10] side of things.
[00:15:11] You have brought such a great, just well of knowledge when it comes to all of that.
[00:15:17] And, and I've had a lot of comments, uh, from listeners saying, you know, how much they enjoy
[00:15:23] hearing more about that in a way that, you know, we never brought to the masses before,
[00:15:28] but, um, has, has, has the year been all right for you?
[00:15:32] I hope it hasn't been too, uh, tortuous.
[00:15:35] I mean, professionally, it's been a strange year, you know, coming out of the pandemic
[00:15:38] where everyone was stuck at home and it was, it was a boom time for us.
[00:15:43] Right.
[00:15:44] So, but like in capitalism, it's like, they always want you to go up.
[00:15:48] So like the constantly being compared to the pandemic era in our figures is, is weirdly
[00:15:54] stressful.
[00:15:54] And I think like a lot of people in a variety of industries are probably feeling that way
[00:15:59] right now, but like, it'd be different for other industries, right?
[00:16:01] Like industries that had to shut down in the pandemic.
[00:16:04] This is their boom time, you know?
[00:16:06] So I like hospitality industry hotels or whatever.
[00:16:09] So that has been a bit of a weird year professionally work here, corporation and all that kind of stuff.
[00:16:13] But, um, but yeah, there's been like cool stuff, you know, joining the show.
[00:16:18] Well, the Warcraft's been doing really well.
[00:16:20] It'd be nice to see.
[00:16:21] Well, the Warcraft sort of emerge from the doldrums of Shadowlands, come back pretty strong in Dragonflight
[00:16:27] and come back even stronger in the war within so far, you know, um, wait and see.
[00:16:33] I'm really eager for the next season though.
[00:16:35] At this point, it feels like it's been a long while waiting for that.
[00:16:39] But yeah, overall, I think it's been generally a pretty good year or it could, you know, it could have been worse.
[00:16:46] I suppose.
[00:16:47] Ha ha ha!
[00:16:49] You know, it could always be worse.
[00:16:50] There it is.
[00:16:52] I guess, I guess the big question, uh, for the minds on some folks is will you be continuing on in your journey with Unshackled Fury?
[00:16:59] Of course, if you'll have me.
[00:17:01] Well, there it is.
[00:17:02] That's it.
[00:17:03] That's the biggest news.
[00:17:04] There is another, another go around with Jez.
[00:17:08] You know, he hasn't gotten tired of us yet.
[00:17:10] This is what I say to my wife all the time.
[00:17:11] You tired of me?
[00:17:12] Yeah.
[00:17:12] She goes, no, I'm not tired of you.
[00:17:13] Okay.
[00:17:14] All right.
[00:17:14] Another victory.
[00:17:15] Let's jack him up.
[00:17:17] Uh, so other than Jez joining us, uh, officially in January, one of the things that we talked about way back with Ann was the 2024 roadmap
[00:17:26] as has now become the norm for us seeing these roadmaps.
[00:17:31] And we just got the 2025 one, uh, here recently.
[00:17:34] We'll get to that a little bit later, but, uh, looking ahead, we knew the war within was coming.
[00:17:42] We knew that it was going to be sometime in the summer.
[00:17:45] I think we all kind of guessed around the right time, but, uh, we were starting to get a sense of what this year was going to look like with, uh, a couple of smaller patches to end dragonfly.
[00:17:56] Uh, season four, uh, something with a pirate flag, which we know what that ended up becoming.
[00:18:02] Uh, there was, there was still some kind of unknowns here.
[00:18:06] What was, what was pandemonium?
[00:18:08] What was time running pandemonium?
[00:18:10] What the fuck does that mean?
[00:18:11] You know, there were some, there were some questions that remained out there about what this year, uh, was going to entail, but, uh, we did have a pretty good sense of flow and they ended up, I think matching that, uh, pretty damn closely in terms of what.
[00:18:26] What our expectations were.
[00:18:28] And so the first of those many patches that came was 10.2.5.
[00:18:34] Remember that seeds of renewal?
[00:18:36] Oh my God, a whole way back in January.
[00:18:40] Uh, that launched.
[00:18:41] That's when we reclaimed Gilneus.
[00:18:43] And that was, if you know, it was cool.
[00:18:46] If not a little, little abbreviated.
[00:18:48] Uh, we also got follower dungeons and what Jez has, I think convinced me.
[00:18:56] I think you've convinced me, Jez has been the creation of a new night elf starting zone in Bella meth.
[00:19:03] Although they seem intense on shooting that idea down.
[00:19:07] I'm with you, Jez.
[00:19:07] I, I, there seems to be too much there to just have it be nothing.
[00:19:11] Like, like a significant purpose.
[00:19:15] Yeah.
[00:19:16] I don't know.
[00:19:17] You never know with Blizzard because they're very careful with their messaging.
[00:19:20] You know, when they tease something or don't tease something.
[00:19:24] But I just, I just kind of feel like you don't make something that, that expensive with that, with the plan to never use it.
[00:19:33] So, I don't know.
[00:19:34] It's pretty bad.
[00:19:35] It's my conspiracy theory.
[00:19:36] You know?
[00:19:37] I'm, I'm with it.
[00:19:38] You know what?
[00:19:39] I'm putting my tinfoil hat on for that one.
[00:19:41] Uh, so we had, we had 10 to five and brought, uh, the dragon isle epilogue, uh, dragon riding worldwide, uh, the Azerothian archives.
[00:19:53] If you did that little, uh, quest chain and, uh, the Outland cup, uh, things that we had going on.
[00:19:59] Uh, but unfortunately I think the other biggest news that came out in January was we'd been riding high off a dragon flight.
[00:20:08] We've been riding high off a blizzcon and then more layoffs.
[00:20:13] And as we have talked about and Jez, you know, better than anybody, the, the tech industry, the, the game development industry, just there's so much globally, uh, that has gone wrong in terms of the game.
[00:20:28] Uh, the tech sector and the layoffs across the board have been monumental.
[00:20:34] And I don't know that there's any way to overstate how big it has been.
[00:20:39] Uh, I think for a lot of us, it was surprising.
[00:20:43] Well, maybe we shouldn't have been surprised.
[00:20:45] Uh, the, after the buyout from Microsoft, we thought Microsoft was going to solve every ill and we weren't going to see stuff like this again.
[00:20:52] But again, I think that's, you know, our own naivete or, uh, you know, lack of knowledge on how any of this works.
[00:20:58] Um, but that, that was a really big bond that just effectively, I think blunted a lot of the goodwill that we were having at that moment.
[00:21:08] And now coming out of that, now that that was the beginning of the year.
[00:21:11] Now that we're at the end of the year, Jez, it's, it seems like it just keep, it just continued for the industry following that point.
[00:21:19] I mean, even through today.
[00:21:21] Yep.
[00:21:21] We, we are not out of the woods yet with the game industry.
[00:21:25] It was just what they're seeing is costs go up, but new users actually go down again.
[00:21:32] This is like, ish.
[00:21:33] Part of this is post pandemic, similar to what I was talking about earlier with me.
[00:21:37] They were like, Oh, people will be stuck at home forever.
[00:21:40] So let's hire 10,000 more people, you know, exaggerating or not in some cases, actually, you know, some companies really beefed up during the pandemic to take advantage of that wave and deliver shareholder profits,
[00:21:53] max, max and max profits. And now it's like, Oh, actually a lot of those users, um, didn't become permanent gamers.
[00:22:00] A lot of people dabbled and tried out gaming for the first time during the pandemic.
[00:22:04] Well, those people just didn't come back. They didn't come back. They didn't become permanent gamers.
[00:22:08] And now studios are having the price of the price.
[00:22:11] A lot of these sort of studios that were set up with venture capital money during the pandemic, they're shutting down.
[00:22:18] I saw a couple of ex Bioware staff studios, uh, Casey Hudson studio.
[00:22:24] And I can't remember the other guy's name off the top of my head, but two Bioware directors, they, they left the air and set up studios.
[00:22:31] Both of those studios have now shut down without releasing the game.
[00:22:34] They've all run out of money. So, you know, it's, uh, it's, it's, it's still a weird time industry.
[00:22:39] You know, Ubisoft's got tons of issues on right now of its own 10 cent reportedly going to buy them out, which is going to be funny.
[00:22:47] So that goes, but yeah, the industry is undergoing all kinds of what people right now.
[00:22:52] Um, and, uh, you know, Blizzard ain't out of the woods either. Really?
[00:22:56] I mean, Blizzard's facing some stiff competition right now.
[00:22:59] Marvel rivals eating into overwatch is lunch path of exile, potentially eating into Diablo's lunch a little bit, because at the end of the day,
[00:23:08] a lot of these games, they're not attracting new users. Like I said, they're just stealing users from other people taking, you know,
[00:23:15] Piazza Vaxel is going to take from Diablo's audience and Marvel's rivals probably going to take from overwatch's audience as well.
[00:23:22] So, you know, it's going to be interesting to see how Blizzard navigates that, but at least for us, well, the Warcraft has no real competitor at the moment, at least not in the West.
[00:23:33] Um, so does the, the, the, the wow killer has not emerged in the West yet.
[00:23:38] It has not.
[00:23:39] They're, they're, they're, they're their own assassin at the end of the day.
[00:23:43] I think, you know, riot games is working on their league of legends.
[00:23:47] MMO.
[00:23:47] Um, which, you know, we still haven't seen materialize yet, but they're still plucking away on it.
[00:23:56] Maybe that'll give wow, some serious competition to think about, but blizzard seems to be able to rise to the challenge when, um, they do get competition.
[00:24:05] I think a lot of the good stuff that has happened to world of Warcraft recently was because of competition from Final Fantasy 14.
[00:24:11] And that kind of gave them a kick up the ass, but you know, um, something like riot, you'd imagine might be even stiffer competition.
[00:24:20] So we see how that one goes down.
[00:24:24] As, uh, anyone who knows anything about the Monday night wars, WWF versus WCW, you know, that things were good and better when there was competition between, you know, those two.
[00:24:37] And when it, it only suffered after WCW got bought out.
[00:24:40] So I am a firm believer in the power of competition, uh, you know, making, making good stuff.
[00:24:45] But, uh, unfortunately, as you've mentioned, you know, a lot of these shops closing down and as part of these layoffs in January, we also found out that project odyssey, which was the survival game that blizzard had been working on for however many years.
[00:25:00] And all we'd seen publicly was concept art about it was the whole thing was shuttered and the whole team let go, or at least a good chunk of it.
[00:25:10] And that I think is another one of these huge blows to the community because we're all still thinking about Titan, which we never really saw or know much about publicly.
[00:25:22] And it turned into parts of it anyway, overwatch, but we know how damn well that whole debacle really hurt them and has hurt them long-term.
[00:25:32] And so to see another big project just completely get wiped off the map, that was, that was a big shock, especially considering that they had said something about it publicly to give us some indication that this thing was coming and now nothing.
[00:25:47] And so that I think was a really hard start to hear.
[00:25:52] It was, um, uh, but it's kind of funny, like out of, out of the ashes of Titan, we got overwatch and I think out of the ashes of ashes of odyssey.
[00:26:03] And I really wish I kept the gameplay footage.
[00:26:06] Okay.
[00:26:07] Cause it looked really good.
[00:26:08] And I think if people saw it, they'd be like, Oh wow.
[00:26:10] That actually looks really good.
[00:26:11] It looked like a, it looked like a fairy tale kind of,
[00:26:16] it had a strong fairy tale vibe.
[00:26:18] I mean, it was clearly built on, it looked like overwatch, you know, Pixar stylish, but fairy tale vibe.
[00:26:24] It looked really, really good.
[00:26:26] Like it kind of reminded me of fallout 76 a bit with player, player vendors.
[00:26:30] And at least what I thought looked like a player vendor, like a potion vendor that a player had built.
[00:26:36] Um, but, uh, you know, it wasn't for this world, but I do think that the sort of, uh,
[00:26:46] the engine and some of the code they use to build that game will live on in whatever this rumored Starcraft project is,
[00:26:56] which now counts one of the far cry directors among its lead devs.
[00:27:02] So like it sounds as though really?
[00:27:05] Yeah.
[00:27:05] Yeah.
[00:27:05] So this is the rumor from Bloomberg, Jason Schreyer.
[00:27:09] I think he said that I believe it was him anyway off top of my head.
[00:27:14] They've managed to grab one of Ubisoft's far cry directors and they're looking to make an open world shooter based on the Starcraft IP.
[00:27:23] If that's true.
[00:27:25] And then I just pull it off.
[00:27:26] It could be really good because far cry has some really great games in, in its sort of pantheon.
[00:27:34] Like far cry five was really good.
[00:27:37] Far cry two was like gritty and good.
[00:27:40] Far cry three had a great story.
[00:27:42] Far cry four and far cry six, not very good.
[00:27:46] And then far cry primals.
[00:27:47] I liked it, but it was controversial, I guess you play it.
[00:27:51] You played as a caveman.
[00:27:52] No guns in that game.
[00:27:53] Bow and arrow, spears.
[00:27:55] It was weird, but weirdly good.
[00:27:57] I liked it.
[00:27:58] But, um, if they can make it like far cry five with Starcraft universe with a good story,
[00:28:03] I think that could be really, really powerful.
[00:28:06] And, you know, and from what I've heard, some of the team that worked on Odyssey have gone on to work on that game.
[00:28:12] Um, so hopefully we get some out of the ashes of that.
[00:28:17] Yeah.
[00:28:18] Well, I would be very excited as we know this, this show, it may be about world of Warcraft, but I think the sub header is, it's also about Starcraft.
[00:28:27] So anytime we get Starcraft news, we're going to fucking talk.
[00:28:30] There's a lot of crossover between Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Overwatch fans, I think sometimes, but, um, but Blizzard, you know, cross-pollinates like Warcraft people.
[00:28:42] People work on Starcraft and vice versa and stuff like that.
[00:28:45] So it can't, it can't be that Warcraft carries the whole company on its shoulders.
[00:28:51] Like they need, they need like, they need other games.
[00:28:54] No, they shouldn't.
[00:28:54] Yeah.
[00:28:54] They shouldn't.
[00:28:55] And, and it doesn't like, you know, Diablo and Overwatch do well in their own right.
[00:28:59] But you know, it's imagine like, imagine that all the games are firing on the cell at the same cylinders that world of Warcraft is, you know, it'd be really happy times.
[00:29:09] And it would lead to a better Warcraft as well.
[00:29:11] Probably.
[00:29:12] Yeah.
[00:29:13] But sure.
[00:29:15] So that's where we started and, uh, heading into then February, uh, I of course had a Super
[00:29:22] Bowl hangover cause my San Francisco 49ers are fucking dog shit and apparently can't win Super
[00:29:26] Bowls anymore.
[00:29:27] And they're even worse this year.
[00:29:29] So that's all that needs to be said about any of that business.
[00:29:32] But, uh, as we went through February, you know, scenes of renewal was live at that point.
[00:29:39] And, and truly, I think the biggest news that came out of that period of time was that Steve
[00:29:42] DeNuser left Blizzard.
[00:29:45] And as we recall, he had been given the keys to the castle over world of Warcraft.
[00:29:51] The dragon flight was essentially his baby coming out of shadow lands and all this turmoil
[00:29:55] and Alex Afraziabi getting booted and the lawsuits and like all of these things.
[00:30:00] Right.
[00:30:00] And so Steve DeNuser was the captain of the ship and then he just sort of was gone and nobody
[00:30:09] really knew why.
[00:30:11] And eventually it seemed like it was maybe one of a couple of things, uh, sounded like he
[00:30:17] was citing the, uh, return to office protocol as a big indicator of this or wanting to move
[00:30:24] on and do other things.
[00:30:26] And then I don't know, perhaps maybe this was a soft layoff of some type, but just did we ever
[00:30:32] really settle on what happened with him and why he left?
[00:30:36] I never found out the real reason if there was anything more to the story, but I know that a lot of
[00:30:43] people, you know, who reacted to the work from home culture and sell home offices and then sort of
[00:30:49] got into a lifestyle of working from home.
[00:30:51] You know, they didn't want to come back to the office, you know?
[00:30:54] And I think for a lot of people, when you, you bite that, you bite that pill and it's like, oh, wow.
[00:31:00] I saved so much money doing this.
[00:31:02] It's hard to go back.
[00:31:03] Like I haven't worked in an office or, oh man, like 10 years now, 12 years, something like that.
[00:31:14] So way before the pandemic, I was, I've been very lucky that I could do a job working from
[00:31:18] home for even longer than, you know, most people.
[00:31:22] I can't imagine going back, dude.
[00:31:24] I just, I can't, there's no way you can get me back in office.
[00:31:27] That's like my worst nightmare.
[00:31:29] I don't, I don't blame people who leave, leave their job.
[00:31:32] If, if they're, if they're like, yeah, you got to come back in the office.
[00:31:35] I'd be like, nah, nah, nah.
[00:31:37] Yeah.
[00:31:37] Peace.
[00:31:38] I'm out.
[00:31:39] Bye.
[00:31:41] I'm gone, baby.
[00:31:43] So yeah, I dunno.
[00:31:47] Yeah.
[00:31:47] It's, you know, at the time I, I was always really high on Steve Denuser because I felt
[00:31:56] like he was somebody who really cared about the universe.
[00:32:01] And even if people didn't agree with decisions that he made and he genuinely cared about the
[00:32:08] characters and what we were doing and where we were going and why, and that, you know, coming
[00:32:12] out of shadow lands and just everything else that had happened just in the real world, the
[00:32:16] dragon flight was this sort of like this soft landing where, then we talked about this
[00:32:20] before.
[00:32:20] It was not dark.
[00:32:21] It was not gritty.
[00:32:22] It was not big, you know, universe ending shit.
[00:32:25] It was a smaller story.
[00:32:27] Very heartfelt.
[00:32:28] Very, uh, you know, yeah.
[00:32:30] Yeah.
[00:32:31] It was more emotional in that way.
[00:32:33] And, and I never had a problem with that.
[00:32:37] I thought it was a good momentary change of pace.
[00:32:40] We knew it wouldn't last, but it was a good sort of interstitial.
[00:32:42] And I thought Steve was doing great, but after he left, man, people really let it hang
[00:32:47] out.
[00:32:48] They had all kinds of things to say about him.
[00:32:50] And I, you know, I wish him all the best.
[00:32:52] I figuratively speaking.
[00:32:53] Yeah.
[00:32:55] Yeah.
[00:32:55] I, yeah, people, people went in on Steve Denuser.
[00:33:02] I mean, you know, people credit him for the terrible direction of Sylvanas, you know,
[00:33:08] which irritates me personally, you know, Sylvanas are my, one of my favorite characters.
[00:33:12] And it is, it is kind of weird.
[00:33:15] It's weird and wild how Sylvanas was handled.
[00:33:18] Like to, to, to build her up in interviews saying like, Oh, she's a smart tactician.
[00:33:23] She wouldn't, you know, she wouldn't be a garage.
[00:33:26] And then just basically make her a garage is difficult to swallow.
[00:33:32] It's a different, difficult build to swallow.
[00:33:34] But at the same time, it's like, he's just a dude, you know, doing his best.
[00:33:38] And, you know, he didn't want to, you know, make it bad.
[00:33:42] Also deadlines.
[00:33:43] I'm sure, I'm sure that some aspects of this were like, this is the result of a rush job.
[00:33:48] Activision saying, you've got to get this done by now.
[00:33:51] Just ship it, just ship it, just ship it rather than iterate.
[00:33:53] Cause I'm sure if they had more time to iterate and really sit down and take it slow
[00:33:58] and think about what the implications of what they're doing here, you know, they would sort of,
[00:34:04] they'd realize they can't just go ahead with all these story changes that they did implement
[00:34:08] without having a good enough pay payoff at the end.
[00:34:11] And the payoff was non-existent, you know?
[00:34:14] So part of me wonders if there had not been maybe some internal criticism,
[00:34:19] but at the same time, it was a different era of Blizzard back then.
[00:34:22] You know, would Steve Denusa deliver better results under the current cadence,
[00:34:28] which, you know, they've planned out all the major story beats in advance now.
[00:34:35] And they've, they've got plenty of time to iterate on some of that stuff and,
[00:34:38] and react to it internally and just sort of think about things and figure things out and be like,
[00:34:44] Oh, actually, maybe this doesn't make total sense.
[00:34:45] Maybe we should change this, you know?
[00:34:47] You know, using WWE as another allegory, you know, he talks about the Monday night wars.
[00:34:52] I was often, I was often like thinking how, cause I've started watching it again in the last year.
[00:34:56] And you compare like what they used to do in WWE to what they're doing these days where Triple H plays this,
[00:35:03] when Triple H is writing, they play this really long game.
[00:35:06] Yes.
[00:35:07] Where they think what the major story beats are going to be over the year.
[00:35:09] And then in the events, they'll call back to things that happened ages ago.
[00:35:13] And they're really thoughtful.
[00:35:14] And it's like all those plot threads and it's like, wow,
[00:35:16] this is so much better than it used to be where it was like,
[00:35:20] it was rare that we get callbacks to previous things that had happened.
[00:35:24] And it was like, hang on.
[00:35:26] Why are these two wrestlers teaming with each other?
[00:35:27] They used to hate each other a couple of years ago.
[00:35:29] But they, they, they acknowledge those things now in the right.
[00:35:32] And it's like that the characters feel like they have more consistent presence and more
[00:35:38] persistent character.
[00:35:41] Like, you know, I was watching, like, I was watching a video recently where they were talking about,
[00:35:46] you know, all the issues Sam Punk had had with Roman Reigns and they could have just
[00:35:50] threw all that under the bus.
[00:35:50] That's what they would have done in the early 2000s, the late 90s.
[00:35:54] They would have just forgot all that stuff happened.
[00:35:56] But with the, in the era of social media, nobody forgets anything now.
[00:35:59] So no.
[00:36:01] So, and I think, you know, that's because they've been able to adopt a more thoughtful approach
[00:36:07] to it, I guess.
[00:36:07] And I think that's what Chris Metzen represents for World of Warcraft is a more thoughtful approach.
[00:36:12] But, I don't, you never know what completely went down, which is why I never want to blame devs
[00:36:17] directly because there's so many, there's so many constraints on game development that can
[00:36:24] frustrate the creative process.
[00:36:26] Especially when you're working for a corporation like Activision or now Microsoft.
[00:36:29] And they're like, just ship it, just ship it.
[00:36:31] You know, I mean, maybe it is his fault, maybe it isn't.
[00:36:34] But what I do know is that nobody sets out to make a bad game or disappoint people.
[00:36:40] So, yeah.
[00:36:42] No, I think as we talked about at the time, it probably, it felt a little bit like there was an arc that was in mind.
[00:36:49] And they're like, no, no, no, you can't kill Sylvanas or you can't do this.
[00:36:51] And so they had to come up with something else.
[00:36:54] Pivot.
[00:36:54] Yeah.
[00:36:55] The pivot.
[00:36:55] And I think that analogy of the long-term storytelling of Triple H now in WWE is, you know, to Metzen and sort of the thoughtfulness about the canon.
[00:37:08] You know, it, that really resonates.
[00:37:11] And, you know, that's probably the reason why we were so fucking excited to see him back and doing this World Soul Saga and everything else.
[00:37:18] We're like, Metzen's the man.
[00:37:19] Metzen's going to get it on the right ship.
[00:37:21] And maybe that was it.
[00:37:22] Maybe Metzen being there didn't need Steve Denuser anymore.
[00:37:24] And maybe he's like, fuck it.
[00:37:25] I can't compete with the king.
[00:37:26] I'm getting out of here.
[00:37:27] I wouldn't blame him for that either.
[00:37:29] So he left.
[00:37:32] And at that point in February, we were starting to hear about what this pirate flag fucking thing is.
[00:37:39] Patch 1026.
[00:37:40] And it ultimately became Plunderstorm, which is going to be back next month again, by the way.
[00:37:48] Okay.
[00:37:49] And this was this matchup battle royale whole system that happened up there in the Rothy Highlands.
[00:37:57] And I don't know that I ever quite came around to it.
[00:38:01] I know the whole pirate aesthetic really pleased lots of folks and the play style, the rewards and the way that all works, you know, battling down to the final the final person.
[00:38:11] A lot of folks like it as a very popular format.
[00:38:14] And it seems like Blizzard was able to come up with a very Warcraftian way to to to craft, to make something, to mold something in that fashion with it coming back in 2025.
[00:38:27] I'm sure I'll take a look at it.
[00:38:29] I always do.
[00:38:30] We'll see how much I actually dig it.
[00:38:32] But Jez, are you looking back on it now almost a year later?
[00:38:37] Did you do you have fond memories of Plunderstorm?
[00:38:40] Do you look forward to playing it again next month?
[00:38:43] I did not particularly enjoy Plunderstorm first time around.
[00:38:47] I bounced out very quickly, but I also kind of felt like there's something here, maybe with some iteration and some tweaks.
[00:38:55] I hope that when they do bring it back, it's not just the same.
[00:38:58] I hope that like they've examined it and maybe made it a little better, a little bit more interesting.
[00:39:04] Yeah.
[00:39:05] Because sometimes I do look at the rewards that people have got.
[00:39:09] Some of my guildies have the pirate stuff and I'm I am a little bit jealous sometimes.
[00:39:14] That's how they get you.
[00:39:15] So yeah, the transmog, you know, so maybe I'm just like, maybe I will grind it out for the transmog and be a pirate for a day.
[00:39:23] But we'll see.
[00:39:24] Yeah, that was my note that I had here is is, you know, needs a better reward system just in terms of the grind was terrible.
[00:39:32] And I would I know that they made some tweaks and they added trios and they did some things.
[00:39:37] It's it's definitely, you know, it's definitely better to do it in certain formats than others.
[00:39:42] But man, I was just getting my fucking ass kicked every time.
[00:39:45] And there was just there was no there was no good for me in there.
[00:39:49] So we'll we'll see. We'll see if maybe a 2025 iteration is is a better partner for us.
[00:39:56] But at the same time in March, we also had Hearthstone turning 10, 10 freaking years for Hearthstone.
[00:40:03] And I remember when, you know, that was first being put out and like, oh, man, if they put that on a on a phone, shit is over.
[00:40:15] And yeah, it turned out to be very popular once it was not just on like a like a one format and it expanded.
[00:40:21] And it has just grown from there over the years.
[00:40:24] And it's got a million expansions and all the stuff that's happened and still going strong.
[00:40:29] And by God, we're getting some StarCraft related thing happening in the near future here.
[00:40:36] Very excited about that. Hopefully they've recorded some new voice lines for Jim Rayner.
[00:40:40] I would love that. That would be fantastic.
[00:40:41] But Jez Hearthstone, that is that in your repertoire at all?
[00:40:47] Did the StarCraft talk get you fired up? Is it on your phone?
[00:40:53] I think it is currently still on my phone.
[00:40:55] I play here and there, but like I find it. I find it super difficult.
[00:41:00] Right. I'm not particularly smart for one thing.
[00:41:03] Also, I can't keep up with the matter. It changes every few seconds.
[00:41:07] Oh God, no. And all that kind of stuff. So yeah, I play Battlegrounds when I played it and I have won a few Battlegrounds matches and I felt really smart when I do it.
[00:41:17] But then sometimes I wonder, did I just not get lucky and look into a bunch of good combos here and everyone else I'm playing with is idiots.
[00:41:24] I don't know, man. It's not my cup of tea. I know some people love Hearthstone and that kind of thing, but I wish I was smarter.
[00:41:32] But it makes me feel dumb. So I don't play it because it makes me feel dumb.
[00:41:36] Oh, I feel like a fucking child every time I look at it.
[00:41:39] I'm like, I have no idea what's going on.
[00:41:41] The Battlegrounds seems to be kind of the level, you know, the level setting right there where you kind of get a better chance.
[00:41:46] But I never thought it would grow like this to the degree that it has where now you have to have seasons and cards that are in play.
[00:41:55] And like, it's a full on it's like, you know, magic and these other like real big card based games where now you have to have all these different rule sets and what's allowed and when.
[00:42:05] And then it also has like all this story expansion stuff that's going on over here.
[00:42:10] There's so much to it now. They've really grown that thing out.
[00:42:13] And I have to say, I don't know if Celestalon is still the one in charge over there, but they've done a wonderful job with that part of the franchise.
[00:42:21] I have to say, it is really impressive.
[00:42:27] So one of the issues they're gonna they're gonna struggle with is cutting through that reputation of everyone thinks it's too hard or too inaccessible or it's too late to play it.
[00:42:38] This is what everyone I talk to says like it looks cool, but it's way too late for me to get into.
[00:42:43] I don't know how they can. I don't know how they'll be able to overcome that.
[00:42:47] But I suppose like as well, like the physical aspect of Magic the Gathering and other card based games.
[00:42:53] I think that's also lacking in Hearthstone.
[00:42:55] You know, I think there needs to be a physical aspect to the game, whether it's collectible cards or physical tournaments.
[00:43:02] I think that could be cool if they wanted to go down that road.
[00:43:05] I'm surprised they haven't done that.
[00:43:06] Yeah.
[00:43:07] That seems like such an easy merch thing to do.
[00:43:10] Exactly. And Activision of Yesteryear would have done that because they had this whole toys to life division.
[00:43:16] You know, Guitar Hero with the guitars and then they also had Skylanders with the little figurines.
[00:43:22] So like you would have thought that Activision would have been all over that.
[00:43:25] But whatever reason, it never happened.
[00:43:28] It is.
[00:43:29] It is interesting.
[00:43:30] I don't know, but it's the future is limitless for Hearthstone and it will.
[00:43:35] I'm sure of you seeing much more of that in the years to come.
[00:43:39] But 10 years this past March and then coming in April of this year, we got our first real look at sub numbers.
[00:43:52] The first real look that we've had probably a decade.
[00:43:59] And this was due to John Height, who was like the general manager for WoW or whatever specific title was, who left two months after this happened.
[00:44:12] He gave a presentation at the GDC where he had some slides and talked about, you know, the the the churn of World of Warcraft lessons learned and some things.
[00:44:24] And there was a mock up that did did showing expansion starting with Legion going up to Dragonflight.
[00:44:30] So we don't have anything for War Within.
[00:44:32] So this is prior to that showing kind of the subscription numbers.
[00:44:35] They didn't give actual numbers, but you could kind of guess.
[00:44:38] And I think Bellular was one that was able to kind of tease out some of these numbers.
[00:44:43] And we looked at where coming into Dragonflight and having having been out for a little bit in combination with classic and the other things going on.
[00:44:53] The World of Warcraft was in the best state that it had been in in quite some time.
[00:45:00] And it did, you know, show that the bottoming out like a battle for Azeroth.
[00:45:05] We knew it was gonna be pretty bad.
[00:45:06] It was pretty bad.
[00:45:07] You know, the churn during Shadowlands, it was pretty bad.
[00:45:10] But that World of Warcraft really was recovering through Dragonflight.
[00:45:19] And I would love to see what it is, you know, post War Within launch, you know, into into, you know, September, October, like what those numbers look like historically compared to like Legion or when classic launched and stuff like that.
[00:45:39] I know that one of the ways that they do it now is I correct me if I'm wrong, but they'll look at like how many mythic plus runs are happening or how many dungeon runs are happening or raid runs.
[00:45:51] Or there's there's some other metrics that people are kind of trying to use to figure out what exactly is going on.
[00:45:57] But World of Logs, World of Logs, API calls, all kinds of stuff.
[00:46:01] Like, it was weird because they used to use mystic plus runs, but you can't really do that anymore because people can gear up through delves now.
[00:46:09] So then people were using like World of Logs reports instead.
[00:46:13] And, you know, and you can compare and contrast.
[00:46:16] But the problem is it's difficult because when they add new activities to the game, obviously, that's going to reduce the amount of activities potentially that the raids have and all that kind of stuff.
[00:46:27] And also then the other modes like wow classic wow classics just come out.
[00:46:31] You probably are going to have fewer mythic plus runs and stuff like that.
[00:46:35] So it's not exactly an ideal metric, but yeah, it does.
[00:46:39] The point being it does seem to be doing pretty well.
[00:46:41] And I think Blizzard themselves report something like they've got more players in China than they've ever had now or something like that.
[00:46:46] The game is monstrously popular in China.
[00:46:49] Right.
[00:46:50] So China back.
[00:46:51] They got China back, which is like, you know, huge, huge market for them.
[00:46:58] And obviously the business model over there is a little bit different, but it's it's still vast amounts of money and Chinese people love their online games.
[00:47:05] Right. So huge.
[00:47:07] Yeah, the game the game seems to be doing quite well.
[00:47:12] But yeah, never know for sure without the odd figures.
[00:47:19] Yeah, those those earnings calls back in the day were some shit where we used to, you know, pour over those figures and look at all that stuff.
[00:47:26] And then I guess just it's kind of like mentioned earlier in the age of social media.
[00:47:31] Nobody ever forgets anything.
[00:47:32] It's like once you start putting those numbers out and you have these fan sites that are out there just combing through all this stuff, you got to be really careful about what you say.
[00:47:38] But that was that was the first real like hard look into the sub numbers that we'd seen publicly in quite some time.
[00:47:48] And that was really, I think, refreshing for a lot of us to see.
[00:47:51] But also in April, we had season four finally kicked off for Dragon Flight.
[00:47:58] I don't know how much anybody did in that.
[00:48:02] I get the sense that that season four was not really well received, which I don't know.
[00:48:08] I don't know that that's why I'm not going to confidently say that's why we're probably not going to have one for a while.
[00:48:14] I don't think the story that we're in right now really allows for that much time.
[00:48:19] But I think that might be the last season four we see for a little while.
[00:48:23] Yeah, it's not like the weird sort of legacy season they do where you do all the raids.
[00:48:30] I despise those seasons, but at the same time, I don't mind having a reason to quit for a few months.
[00:48:38] So, you know, and catch up on other games and play with my backlog.
[00:48:42] So keep them going, Blizzard. You know, I won't play them, but sure.
[00:48:47] Help Jez clear his backlog. Please.
[00:48:50] Yeah, I'd much rather have a new raid, but if you ain't going to give me one, I'll skip ahead and play.
[00:48:56] I don't know something else. I barely touched Diablo since the expansion came out.
[00:49:00] Yeah, I got so many games I want to play. It's just a monstrous amount of games.
[00:49:04] I just can't fit in because of everything.
[00:49:08] So yeah, bad bad well seasons. Great excuse to go and play another game.
[00:49:12] It's a nice problem to have sometimes.
[00:49:16] Well, speaking of new things, I believe it was in April Jez that we had the big War Within Alpha London kickoff, which you were at.
[00:49:28] I was. Yeah, I was at the yeah, I was in London.
[00:49:32] The first blizzard event, I think that I've ever been to or first like closed press sort of blizzardy event.
[00:49:39] That was cool.
[00:49:41] Took some pictures of Charlemagne, which will never see the light day.
[00:49:49] I'll show you those.
[00:49:50] You have. Yes, you did. You have to share those with the world.
[00:49:53] I think I told you that when I saw them.
[00:49:55] No, no, no, no, no.
[00:49:55] That's that's I know that the horde in you does not want the public to see that you did this.
[00:50:00] But I mean, it is it is it is a wonderful moment in time that I think the whole world needs to witness.
[00:50:11] But that's pretty exciting. You know, typically when this stuff happens, you know, I think as a as a player, you always feel a certain amount removed from these kinds of things.
[00:50:24] And with this being in London, right, this is not something that they typically do.
[00:50:30] And it seems to me like they've been better about incorporating our European partners out there.
[00:50:38] Yeah, but now looking what's that?
[00:50:41] Yeah, I think so. I think so. Yeah.
[00:50:45] What do you I don't know what was like the biggest takeaway from getting to do something like that and actually being there?
[00:50:52] Was it was it cool to be around like all these other folks? Was it was it weird?
[00:50:57] Was it was it nice just to be acknowledged?
[00:51:00] Well, you know, kind of thinking back on it now, what was what was like your biggest takeaway from being there?
[00:51:04] The first thing that popped into my head when you said that was just the passion.
[00:51:08] You know, I think when when you see when you see people like Holly on on TV or in a video, you know, there's this I don't know this sort of unwritten kind of expectation that, you know, this could be rehearsed or whatever, you know, like this.
[00:51:26] Because I don't know, it's at least for me, my brain just thinks like if it's on TV, it's it's it's not real.
[00:51:32] It's not a real thing.
[00:51:34] Yeah.
[00:51:34] Yeah.
[00:51:36] And but when you meet someone in person, it's this it's completely different, you know, and when like you're there with Holly and the other the other developers, and you can just it's not rehearsed, it's not scripted, but you can still feel their passion and their love for the franchise and the community, you know, importantly, so the community.
[00:51:57] That's what my biggest takeaway there was, you know, and also I was just grateful to have not completely messed up the my time at the event, I guess.
[00:52:08] That's always that's always a plus, you know, make making making good on it.
[00:52:14] And, you know, not making them look because that's part of the challenge to write.
[00:52:18] You don't want to make them look like idiots because you came along and they invited you and then you act up and whatever else.
[00:52:22] Like, well, fuck that guy. We're never doing that.
[00:52:25] You know, yeah, but you also don't want to give them an easy ride, right?
[00:52:29] Because there's people I've got a lot of questions and you want to hold them accountable because at the end of the day, we're giving them money.
[00:52:36] We're giving them a lot of money. So in some cases, I don't even want to.
[00:52:39] I don't even want to know how many race changes I've spent over the years.
[00:52:44] But, you know, so it is a weird balance of like trying to be friendly and nice, but also, hey, I've got to find out why you ruined Sylvanas, you know, and stuff like that.
[00:52:57] I hate to ask, but I have to.
[00:52:59] Yeah, kind of thing. It's weird being press.
[00:53:02] I'm not I'm not a particularly big fan of it, but I got to pay the bills.
[00:53:07] Got to got to pay those bills and, you know, at least you got to go and you got to see, you know, as part of these being the alpha kickoff, you got to see a lot of the major features first.
[00:53:17] You know, that was part of the, you know, the alpha kicking off was, hey, here's a bunch of the initial stuff like usual that we're going to see.
[00:53:25] And we got to enjoy that swell of excitement, you know, because it only happens once really every couple of years now where, oh, it's all the new shit.
[00:53:36] All kind of all at once is that big, that big group of all of it.
[00:53:40] Um, it was kind of cool to see that and actually knowing somebody that was there and got to see it in person.
[00:53:46] I'm not gonna lie. It's kind of rad, especially because you're on this show and are able to speak directly to the situation.
[00:53:52] But coming out of that in May, we had finally our then next patch, patch 10.2.7 dark heart.
[00:54:01] I know you all remember dark heart. Well, and I know it was one of your favorite patches of all time, uh, as this was the final chapter for dragon flight.
[00:54:10] This was the proverbial handoff to the war within.
[00:54:17] This is when we first got someone to Dalaran to investigate the harbinger.
[00:54:21] So then we all know how, uh, that went for Dalaran.
[00:54:25] This was also the patch when the time running pandemonium.
[00:54:30] Wow. Remix.
[00:54:32] Mr. Pandaria went by like 19 different names, but that's when this finally hit and proved to be so popular.
[00:54:39] That's I guess we're going to be doing it again in Legion, which, you know, Legion was a great expansion.
[00:54:45] Nothing wrong with that.
[00:54:48] Um, we also learned in May.
[00:54:52] And this was not a surprise to Jez certainly surprised some of us.
[00:54:56] The blizz con would not be happening in 2024.
[00:55:02] Not a big surprise.
[00:55:03] Looking back on it.
[00:55:04] There's a lot going on.
[00:55:06] I think Jez, as you mentioned, it is, it is not a winner when it comes to money.
[00:55:12] It's a, it's a, it's a purely marketing advertising event that loses the company, a lot of money.
[00:55:19] Um, but I, I still maintain that because it is such a, it's such a cornerstone of the community.
[00:55:31] It's just a foundational event for this group.
[00:55:35] I have to believe that it's coming back.
[00:55:38] Maybe not, you know, maybe not even in 2025, but I have to believe that blizz con will be back at some point.
[00:55:47] But now that we're, you know, some time removed from this and the relationships continued on a little bit with Microsoft.
[00:55:54] Uh, Jez, do you, do you, what, what would you say if you had to give it odds percentage wise of blizz con coming back in the next two years?
[00:56:02] What would you say?
[00:56:04] A hundred percent.
[00:56:05] Ooh, next two years.
[00:56:06] A hundred percent.
[00:56:07] I don't know if these cons coming back next year, but I was pretty much assured that it's not gone forever.
[00:56:12] So I do expect it to come back.
[00:56:16] Um, but I think like they'll want to, they'll want to maximize the return on investment.
[00:56:24] So IE that want to do a blizz con when they've got a ton of cool stuff to show for it rather than just like one well expansion and maybe Diablo patch or whatever.
[00:56:34] So like maybe it's when the star crafts ready to come back.
[00:56:39] Maybe it's when they've got a new expansion to show off all and all those games line up at the same time.
[00:56:46] I think that's when they'll probably bring it back.
[00:56:48] So maybe not next year, but I could certainly see it the year after, but we'll say, I'll try and find out something more concrete soon.
[00:56:56] So a hundred percent chance that we're going to get you out here and get you to some fine California cuisine.
[00:57:03] That's what I'm hearing.
[00:57:06] First rounds on me.
[00:57:08] Um, so unfortunately, uh, that was a bit of news that was shared with us back in May, along with, uh, Christie golden, long time blizzard writer, uh, author in her own right, uh, outside of blizzard, uh, franchises.
[00:57:22] But Christie golden, uh, laid off, uh, over there blizzard.
[00:57:26] And as we talked about, you know, story and franchise development and some of the publishing, I think, as you'd mentioned, you know, these were areas in which blizzard was downsizing because of, uh, uh, redundancy with Microsoft.
[00:57:42] I still have a hard time with this one because she was such an integral part.
[00:57:49] I thought of the blizzard storytelling machine.
[00:57:51] And she always was very, uh, pointed about saying, it's not just warcraft.
[00:57:56] I'm involved in all of these other things.
[00:57:58] So to have one person, a creative involved in so many things and to let her go, that one still doesn't make sense to me.
[00:58:07] Part of me, mate, part of it, part of me wonders if it was sort of like, I dunno, they wanted to have a specific change the team up in a specific way or something.
[00:58:21] I mean, it sucks and it, you know, it is what it is, but I also, it's probably just like they thought we can, you know, get a good saving in here.
[00:58:31] One thing that I've noticed in the corporate world, when you climb up a ladder and you've been there for a long time, you get a lot of pay rises, right?
[00:58:38] Over time, pay rise, pay rise, pay rise.
[00:58:40] And it's like, Oh cool.
[00:58:41] My company is so generous.
[00:58:42] They give me all these pay rises.
[00:58:44] And then when, when it comes to layoffs, they're like, Oh, who's, who's really, who's really expensive.
[00:58:49] And he's been with the company for a million years and it's had a million pay rises, but we could get someone new without those pay rises and reset that salary back to square one.
[00:58:59] And just kind of what happened, I think personally to major Nelson at Xbox, who'd been there for like decades, but he'd been there for decades.
[00:59:07] And it was like, you know, and then they, they hired Tina Amini from IGN to lead programming for Xbox.
[00:59:15] And I have to imagine it was kind of like a, you know, a lot, a sort of a cold, logical money saving exercise in that scenario.
[00:59:25] So I don't know, I don't know the ins and outs of why, why there were, why that was, um, that decision was made, but it is what it is, I guess.
[00:59:38] Yeah. Yeah. That's a tough one. And I know she's still out there on social media and, and it seems like she's had a particularly difficult year, not just professionally, but personally.
[00:59:47] So if you're, you know, if you're out there, uh, on the social media scene and you see her, give her some love, give her some love.
[00:59:54] She's, she's truly, she's really one of the best of us, um, and deserves, I think better than she's been getting.
[01:00:00] So give her, give her a little love if you see her out there.
[01:00:03] Um, but for may kind of wrapping up, uh, this portion of things, this is the end of dragon flight and it was, you know, as we mentioned earlier, it was a different kind of expansion.
[01:00:15] Um, but I still believe and will always believe that it resurrected what could have been a dead franchise because it was certainly on its way.
[01:00:29] Shadowlands was a mess and that's putting it lightly.
[01:00:32] It just, it looked like the game and you, you could see everyone had their own eulogy for the thing, but it really felt like dragon flight pulled world of Warcraft out of the nosedive, uh, that it was in.
[01:00:45] So final word, Jez looking back on dragon flight and what it meant, what it established, you know, hits and misses.
[01:00:55] Uh, what would you say about dragon flights now here?
[01:01:00] Seven months after its official end.
[01:01:04] It was decent.
[01:01:07] You know, I think like I liked, I'm not a big fan of the dragon storyline to be honest since forever.
[01:01:15] I think the dragons are too, I liked them when they're being evil.
[01:01:20] I like deathwing.
[01:01:21] I, you know, me, you know, they're too Alliance coded these days to find them interesting.
[01:01:29] No, got it.
[01:01:29] I don't know.
[01:01:30] I just, I think, I think all those dragon kind of things, I, they all felt too vanilla.
[01:01:37] And I wasn't a huge fan of the writing.
[01:01:42] Um, personally, uh, I felt like it was too softly, softly, gently, gently kind of thing.
[01:01:49] I know that was kind of the tone they were going for, but for me, it was a bit too Disney Disney fired on the nose.
[01:01:55] But, you know, I think it had to be that way.
[01:01:58] They had to make, they had to make dragon flight walk.
[01:02:03] So the war within could run.
[01:02:05] And now we're sort of in this leading into this horror themed, creepy eldritch monster sort of thing.
[01:02:11] Like when, when we see what, um, Zalatath looks like for real, it's, I, I just, I'm really looking forward to that moment.
[01:02:17] I'm expecting some grotesque tentacle freak.
[01:02:21] Yes.
[01:02:22] Mutant.
[01:02:22] You know, um, I also, that being said, I did like the villains in dragon flight.
[01:02:31] And although they're like, again, to use a wrestling term, they're kind of transitional champions, I suppose, in a way.
[01:02:37] Um, you know, the, um, Firak, I thought was cool.
[01:02:42] I actually felt like he was a little bit wasted and, um,
[01:02:46] um, ish kind of, uh, sort of pushed too early to use a wrestling term.
[01:02:53] Yeah.
[01:02:53] So, um, he kind of like, I don't think he met his potential because of that, but I did, um, I really like, I can't remember his name now.
[01:03:04] Eridicron?
[01:03:05] Eridicron, that's it.
[01:03:06] The earth dude.
[01:03:07] Eridicron is really cool and interesting.
[01:03:08] And I think like if they build him up properly and deliver Eridicron well, and don't again, push him too early.
[01:03:17] I think that could be a really, really unique.
[01:03:20] It could be a really, really unique angle there to build him up.
[01:03:23] I just hope that he doesn't end up being like a raid boss in a mid season patch or something like that.
[01:03:29] I hope he, yeah, I hope he becomes something more than, you know, maybe not an expansion.
[01:03:37] A secret undermine boss?
[01:03:38] Yeah.
[01:03:39] Something like that.
[01:03:40] Like, I hope he becomes like an expansion level threat, maybe down the line.
[01:03:44] Um, yeah.
[01:03:45] But maybe that's not his destiny, I don't know.
[01:03:47] But, we'll see.
[01:03:48] We haven't seen him since.
[01:03:49] No, we haven't.
[01:03:50] We haven't.
[01:03:51] And, he gave, he gave the heart to Zalatath for some reason.
[01:03:58] I mean, his whole thing is he hates the titans.
[01:04:01] He's a dragon supremacist or whatever.
[01:04:03] Um.
[01:04:04] Mm-hmm.
[01:04:05] But, yeah, I don't know.
[01:04:06] We'll see how that all goes.
[01:04:08] Overall, it was a solid expansion.
[01:04:11] I mean, I don't love it as much as some people did.
[01:04:14] But, mainly because of the themes.
[01:04:16] But, gameplay wise, it was pretty good.
[01:04:19] And, I was overpowered for a lot of it.
[01:04:22] As a demonology warlord.
[01:04:24] Even better.
[01:04:25] Even better.
[01:04:26] Yeah.
[01:04:27] It, um.
[01:04:28] It definitely was, as you know, we've long discussed.
[01:04:31] It was a softer scene.
[01:04:34] And, yeah.
[01:04:35] It had great bad guys.
[01:04:38] You know.
[01:04:38] Great enemies.
[01:04:40] Um.
[01:04:41] Establishing.
[01:04:42] Making some great establishment markers for the future.
[01:04:47] And, I think the way that you said it is probably the best way to put it.
[01:04:52] That I could think of in my mind.
[01:04:54] Is it, is it walked so War Within could run.
[01:05:00] And, is it going to be remembered?
[01:05:03] I think, you know, as time goes on.
[01:05:05] Is it going to be remembered more fondly?
[01:05:07] I think so.
[01:05:08] I think that, you know.
[01:05:09] It's kind of like, it goes back and forth a little bit.
[01:05:11] Where people were really high on it.
[01:05:13] And, then people kind of went down on it.
[01:05:14] And, I think as time goes on.
[01:05:15] People are really going to hold this one in high regard.
[01:05:18] Um.
[01:05:19] Because of, you know.
[01:05:20] You know.
[01:05:21] I feel like we're going to be using a lot of wrestling terms on this show.
[01:05:24] Probably from now on.
[01:05:25] But, it's sort of like, you know.
[01:05:27] Each era.
[01:05:29] Right?
[01:05:29] It's, you know.
[01:05:30] There's that first, you know.
[01:05:33] Feud or champion.
[01:05:34] Or, something that kind of changes the tone.
[01:05:37] And, the tenor and the flavor.
[01:05:38] Of everything that comes after it.
[01:05:40] And, Dragonflight very much feels like a level setting.
[01:05:44] A reset.
[01:05:45] You know.
[01:05:45] Following the disaster.
[01:05:47] Ultimately, that was Shadowlands.
[01:05:49] So, you know.
[01:05:51] I loved it then.
[01:05:51] I still love it now.
[01:05:53] You know.
[01:05:53] It's in my top five.
[01:05:55] I would say.
[01:05:56] Now that we're so many expansions deep.
[01:05:59] It's getting a little blurry.
[01:06:00] Wrath will always be number one.
[01:06:01] But, I'm blinded by my nostalgia.
[01:06:03] I admit that.
[01:06:04] You know.
[01:06:05] If I had to go back and do a bunch of the stuff that I used to do.
[01:06:08] I'd probably be like, what the fuck am I doing?
[01:06:09] Even though I did that for a little bit when it was classic.
[01:06:11] And, I'm like, man.
[01:06:12] Warriors really suck leveling.
[01:06:14] Um.
[01:06:15] But.
[01:06:16] Great.
[01:06:17] Great stuff.
[01:06:18] Love Dragonflight.
[01:06:18] So.
[01:06:22] As we knew.
[01:06:24] Coming in.
[01:06:26] To late summer.
[01:06:27] Uh.
[01:06:28] It was going to be all war within.
[01:06:29] All the time.
[01:06:30] And, we had to.
[01:06:30] We had to be rested up and ready to go.
[01:06:32] I took a road trip.
[01:06:33] Saw a lot of the west.
[01:06:34] Saw some big trees.
[01:06:35] Saw some deserts.
[01:06:36] Saw some stuff.
[01:06:37] It was cool.
[01:06:39] Um.
[01:06:41] I recommend going on road trips.
[01:06:43] That's all I'll say.
[01:06:44] If you can go on a road trip.
[01:06:45] I recommend doing it.
[01:06:46] See how long you can be trapped in a car with your family.
[01:06:48] Before you want to drive into a ditch.
[01:06:50] It was really good.
[01:06:52] Uh.
[01:06:53] So, coming into then July.
[01:06:56] Patch 11.0 launches.
[01:06:58] We are fully in it.
[01:07:00] We are in the war within era.
[01:07:01] It finally kicks off.
[01:07:03] We get the war within pre-patch.
[01:07:04] Which adds war bands.
[01:07:05] And sky riding.
[01:07:06] And everyone's favorite radiant echoes events.
[01:07:09] Which.
[01:07:10] Listen.
[01:07:10] It might not have been the most exciting thing.
[01:07:13] But I leveled the shit out of my alts.
[01:07:15] Which I never do.
[01:07:16] And I actually got a whole bunch.
[01:07:18] I think four.
[01:07:19] Which is a lot for me.
[01:07:20] Up to max level.
[01:07:22] And you know.
[01:07:23] Listen.
[01:07:23] It's purpose.
[01:07:24] Uh.
[01:07:25] We also had the visions of Azeroth questline.
[01:07:27] So.
[01:07:27] We are fully in July.
[01:07:29] We are fully now moving.
[01:07:31] Into the war within.
[01:07:34] Uh.
[01:07:34] Era.
[01:07:35] And.
[01:07:36] You know.
[01:07:37] Listen.
[01:07:38] You don't have to like.
[01:07:40] Every pre-patch event.
[01:07:41] It doesn't have to be the greatest thing of all time.
[01:07:44] You have to think of it as.
[01:07:45] A utilitarian purpose.
[01:07:47] It's there to get you.
[01:07:48] To gear up your alts.
[01:07:49] And level up your alts.
[01:07:50] So you can.
[01:07:51] Jump into the expansion.
[01:07:53] Headlong.
[01:07:54] With as many characters as you want.
[01:07:56] And can.
[01:07:57] Um.
[01:07:58] But I.
[01:07:59] I've actually made use of it.
[01:08:01] Just.
[01:08:01] I was very.
[01:08:02] I'm still very proud of myself.
[01:08:03] Have I touched those alts since?
[01:08:05] No.
[01:08:06] Well.
[01:08:06] Maybe.
[01:08:07] I think.
[01:08:07] I think I brought the DK out.
[01:08:08] Because he's my miner.
[01:08:09] So.
[01:08:10] You know.
[01:08:11] Now that we have.
[01:08:11] A war band bank.
[01:08:13] And I can just send his ass out to mine.
[01:08:15] And he's leveling while he's mining.
[01:08:16] It's great.
[01:08:17] Uh.
[01:08:18] But the other ones.
[01:08:19] They're probably going to sit there until midnight.
[01:08:24] Uh.
[01:08:25] But there we went.
[01:08:26] In July.
[01:08:27] We are fully.
[01:08:28] Fully heading into the war within era.
[01:08:29] And then.
[01:08:30] Yes.
[01:08:30] August.
[01:08:31] War within launches.
[01:08:33] And we had a bunch of.
[01:08:35] Drama.
[01:08:36] About early access stuff.
[01:08:39] But.
[01:08:39] Jez.
[01:08:40] I don't know.
[01:08:41] Are people still mad about the early access?
[01:08:43] I felt like in the end.
[01:08:45] It was kind of much ado about nothing.
[01:08:47] And.
[01:08:47] People just went on with their lives.
[01:08:49] Am I misremembering this?
[01:08:51] Which one?
[01:08:52] The early access to the war within.
[01:08:55] Oh.
[01:08:56] Yeah.
[01:08:56] I didn't know what you meant.
[01:08:58] Um.
[01:08:59] Yeah.
[01:09:01] People.
[01:09:01] So impactful.
[01:09:02] We've already forgotten.
[01:09:03] Yeah.
[01:09:04] The ship has sailed on that stuff man.
[01:09:07] You know.
[01:09:07] It's like.
[01:09:08] There's.
[01:09:10] It's Microsoft's.
[01:09:11] Modus operandi now.
[01:09:12] Every single one of their games has.
[01:09:14] An early access period.
[01:09:15] Indiana Jones just came out.
[01:09:17] In early access.
[01:09:18] A couple of days ago.
[01:09:19] Launches properly.
[01:09:20] On Monday.
[01:09:21] So you know.
[01:09:22] It's.
[01:09:22] Oh that was early access?
[01:09:24] Yeah.
[01:09:24] It's not out yet.
[01:09:25] Technically.
[01:09:25] I didn't even know.
[01:09:26] I thought that was out.
[01:09:27] Oh no.
[01:09:28] Yeah.
[01:09:29] Ah.
[01:09:30] How much did it cost for early access on Indiana Jones?
[01:09:34] Uh.
[01:09:35] I can't remember off the top of my head.
[01:09:37] But that's the thing right?
[01:09:38] Is they're just trying to get more money on you.
[01:09:41] Yeah.
[01:09:42] I mean.
[01:09:42] That's the issue.
[01:09:44] The existential crisis the industry's faced with right now is.
[01:09:47] There's no.
[01:09:48] There's no extra.
[01:09:49] There's no new users.
[01:09:50] So if we don't have new users.
[01:09:52] Then we have to make more money on the users that we've got.
[01:09:54] So the early access is.
[01:09:58] $80.
[01:10:00] $80 roos.
[01:10:02] Or.
[01:10:03] Is that regular access?
[01:10:06] Oh that's just pre.
[01:10:07] No that's.
[01:10:08] Is that regular access?
[01:10:10] 80 bucks.
[01:10:12] Or is that.
[01:10:13] A cool access.
[01:10:14] I don't know.
[01:10:15] No.
[01:10:16] I think the premium edition you need.
[01:10:18] So the premium edition is.
[01:10:21] 100 pounds.
[01:10:22] I don't know what that's in.
[01:10:25] America dollars.
[01:10:26] But it's probably.
[01:10:27] We'll just say it's 100 bucks.
[01:10:29] Yeah.
[01:10:30] It's probably more than that.
[01:10:31] But I don't know.
[01:10:34] It better be.
[01:10:35] It better be a good game.
[01:10:36] I'm going to have to read.
[01:10:37] The Windows Central review.
[01:10:39] It's a good review.
[01:10:40] I recommend it.
[01:10:43] Everybody go there.
[01:10:44] Read your review.
[01:10:46] So yeah.
[01:10:47] So War Within.
[01:10:48] We had our own early access drama.
[01:10:50] Of course I took advantage of it.
[01:10:52] Thanks to Blizzard.
[01:10:53] Had my own codes.
[01:10:53] I do get.
[01:10:54] You know.
[01:10:54] All these things on my own.
[01:10:56] But.
[01:10:56] They let us in.
[01:10:57] We got in.
[01:10:59] And we hit the ground running.
[01:11:01] With the War Within.
[01:11:03] And an incredible leveling campaign.
[01:11:06] I still.
[01:11:07] Think back on it fondly.
[01:11:08] I think it's one of the best we've ever had.
[01:11:10] Every zone had.
[01:11:12] Even.
[01:11:13] Even the spiders.
[01:11:14] They had their own culture and flavor.
[01:11:16] And it is a cool ass zone.
[01:11:17] It's creepy as shit.
[01:11:19] Ashka Het has its own charm.
[01:11:21] But every zone hit.
[01:11:23] Especially the ringing deeps.
[01:11:25] The cinematic at the end of that.
[01:11:27] With all the Magni stuff.
[01:11:28] I mean.
[01:11:29] It's just.
[01:11:31] It was awesome.
[01:11:33] And.
[01:11:35] I hope that this is the standard.
[01:11:38] I hope this is not the outlier.
[01:11:41] I hope that this is.
[01:11:41] This is what we can come to expect.
[01:11:44] From here on out.
[01:11:46] Because that was an emotional.
[01:11:48] Entertaining.
[01:11:49] At times hilarious campaign.
[01:11:53] That I.
[01:11:55] You know.
[01:11:56] I'm not the biggest leveler.
[01:11:57] I don't.
[01:11:58] I don't.
[01:11:58] As we know.
[01:11:59] Do a lot of alt stuff.
[01:12:00] But.
[01:12:01] I thought it was an absolute home run.
[01:12:03] I still think so.
[01:12:05] And.
[01:12:06] We've seen the praise.
[01:12:08] Universally.
[01:12:08] Across the board.
[01:12:09] And you know.
[01:12:10] It varies a little bit.
[01:12:11] From place to place.
[01:12:12] But.
[01:12:12] I think for the most part.
[01:12:13] Out of the gate.
[01:12:14] War Within has been.
[01:12:15] An incredible hit.
[01:12:16] For Blizzard.
[01:12:18] Every person.
[01:12:19] I've talked to.
[01:12:20] Has nothing but praise.
[01:12:21] They're enjoying the game.
[01:12:22] Shit.
[01:12:22] I've even seen people come back.
[01:12:24] Who took long layoffs.
[01:12:25] And are praising the changes.
[01:12:27] That have been made.
[01:12:28] Or the way that things are being handled.
[01:12:30] And.
[01:12:31] You know.
[01:12:31] Feedback.
[01:12:32] It's still being listened to.
[01:12:34] Albeit slowly at times.
[01:12:35] You know.
[01:12:35] I think Blizzard's still doing a really good job.
[01:12:37] Of being responsive.
[01:12:40] What.
[01:12:40] What a.
[01:12:41] What an achievement.
[01:12:42] What a triumph.
[01:12:43] That.
[01:12:43] This is.
[01:12:44] And it's just the opening.
[01:12:46] Salvo.
[01:12:46] We haven't even seen.
[01:12:48] The next patch.
[01:12:48] We're not even at.
[01:12:49] 11.1 yet.
[01:12:51] And yeah.
[01:12:51] It's getting a little long in the tooth.
[01:12:52] But.
[01:12:54] What a home run.
[01:12:55] Out of the gates.
[01:12:57] And.
[01:12:58] Now that we've had.
[01:12:59] At least a couple months.
[01:13:00] Between now and launch.
[01:13:02] Jez.
[01:13:03] You have gone back.
[01:13:05] And.
[01:13:06] You've done your review.
[01:13:07] You've been paid.
[01:13:08] To have an opinion.
[01:13:10] And do a review.
[01:13:12] On this.
[01:13:12] And I think you've even updated it since then.
[01:13:15] As you.
[01:13:16] As you've continued your play.
[01:13:17] But.
[01:13:18] For our listeners here.
[01:13:20] Where.
[01:13:21] Where do you stand right now.
[01:13:22] On the.
[01:13:23] Sort of the opening salvo.
[01:13:24] From the war within.
[01:13:26] And that leveling campaign.
[01:13:27] Opening salvo.
[01:13:28] This is.
[01:13:32] Put this up there.
[01:13:33] With like.
[01:13:34] The way I felt during wrath.
[01:13:36] The way I felt like.
[01:13:37] Yeah.
[01:13:38] Because I think.
[01:13:38] Like.
[01:13:39] I think a lot of.
[01:13:40] When we think about wrath.
[01:13:41] In a nostalgic way.
[01:13:43] We.
[01:13:43] We think about.
[01:13:44] How we felt.
[01:13:45] During wrath.
[01:13:46] Right.
[01:13:46] And.
[01:13:47] We don't think about how.
[01:13:49] The dungeons were messed up.
[01:13:50] We don't think about how.
[01:13:51] The end game was weird.
[01:13:53] We don't think about how.
[01:13:54] The raids were screwed up.
[01:13:56] You know.
[01:13:56] Like how.
[01:13:57] Naxxramas was way too easy.
[01:13:58] Undertuned.
[01:13:59] And then.
[01:14:00] And we don't think about how.
[01:14:01] Long that patch cycle was.
[01:14:03] We don't think about.
[01:14:04] A lot of those negatives.
[01:14:05] Right.
[01:14:05] When it comes to.
[01:14:08] Wrath.
[01:14:09] What we do think about though.
[01:14:10] Is the way it felt.
[01:14:10] And it felt amazingly epic.
[01:14:12] To be chasing Arthas down.
[01:14:14] Yes.
[01:14:14] A lot of those plot threads.
[01:14:16] Coalesced really well.
[01:14:17] And really nicely.
[01:14:18] Kel'Thuzad.
[01:14:19] I think bringing Naxx back.
[01:14:21] Was the right decision.
[01:14:22] Given the fact that.
[01:14:23] No one got to really experience it.
[01:14:24] In vanilla.
[01:14:25] Because it was too damn hard.
[01:14:28] When they released it.
[01:14:30] And then.
[01:14:30] You know.
[01:14:31] So it was.
[01:14:32] It was a cool sort of.
[01:14:34] It was a great.
[01:14:36] Sort of.
[01:14:37] Coalescence of.
[01:14:38] Interesting storylines.
[01:14:39] Like the.
[01:14:40] The dragonfly.
[01:14:41] Going.
[01:14:42] Because they.
[01:14:42] They were mental.
[01:14:43] They were mental out of the game.
[01:14:45] In vanilla.
[01:14:45] And it's like.
[01:14:46] Why are they mental?
[01:14:46] We don't really know.
[01:14:47] And so you know.
[01:14:48] A lot of those.
[01:14:49] Plot threads.
[01:14:50] Just sort of.
[01:14:51] Came together nice.
[01:14:51] Well we did know.
[01:14:52] They were pissed at us.
[01:14:53] For using magic.
[01:14:55] But.
[01:14:56] You know.
[01:14:56] All that stuff.
[01:14:57] Came together nicely.
[01:14:58] And that's what we remember.
[01:14:59] That's what the point being.
[01:15:00] That's what we remember.
[01:15:01] Remember how it felt.
[01:15:02] And remember Arthas.
[01:15:03] Remember the epic music.
[01:15:05] All that kind of stuff.
[01:15:06] Yeah.
[01:15:06] And that's really what.
[01:15:07] I think people are going to remember.
[01:15:09] From.
[01:15:10] The War Within.
[01:15:11] You know.
[01:15:12] Because we had like.
[01:15:13] Some amazing cutscene work.
[01:15:14] Some amazing writing.
[01:15:15] Some really.
[01:15:16] Big moments.
[01:15:17] That are memorable moments.
[01:15:18] And I'm someone with a terrible memory generally.
[01:15:21] But I remember all the big moments.
[01:15:22] From this expansion.
[01:15:23] And you know like.
[01:15:26] Queen Ansarek.
[01:15:27] Not the most amazing villain in the world.
[01:15:29] But.
[01:15:29] She's sort of again.
[01:15:31] She's there.
[01:15:32] As a sort of.
[01:15:33] A transitional villain.
[01:15:35] To build up.
[01:15:36] And.
[01:15:37] Um.
[01:15:38] Sell.
[01:15:39] Zalatath.
[01:15:40] But also sell the heroes that are involved.
[01:15:42] You know.
[01:15:42] Sell people like.
[01:15:44] Um.
[01:15:45] Illyria.
[01:15:46] Which you know.
[01:15:47] Isn't the most well known character.
[01:15:49] Unless you're really into the lore.
[01:15:50] Or.
[01:15:51] Chronically Alliance.
[01:15:53] And um.
[01:15:54] And uh.
[01:15:55] And uh.
[01:15:56] And uh.
[01:15:56] And also.
[01:15:57] You know.
[01:15:57] Deal with some of.
[01:15:59] Handling's ongoing issues.
[01:16:00] And.
[01:16:01] But do it in a way that isn't.
[01:16:03] Super cringe.
[01:16:04] Because a lot of.
[01:16:05] A lot of.
[01:16:06] When they're dealing with these kind of.
[01:16:08] Things.
[01:16:09] I think like.
[01:16:10] Especially.
[01:16:12] Video game writers.
[01:16:13] When they're.
[01:16:13] When they're sort of trying to figure out.
[01:16:15] Some of these.
[01:16:16] These plot points.
[01:16:17] It often comes across as.
[01:16:19] Contrived.
[01:16:20] Or forced.
[01:16:21] And I feel like they've really nailed it.
[01:16:23] Nail it with Anduin.
[01:16:24] I feel like they really do.
[01:16:26] And.
[01:16:26] Which I think is.
[01:16:27] Really impressive.
[01:16:28] For video game writing in general.
[01:16:30] So.
[01:16:31] And that's what people will remember.
[01:16:33] Like.
[01:16:33] People won't remember the fact that it had.
[01:16:34] Early acts of people.
[01:16:35] Period.
[01:16:36] That everyone was bad about.
[01:16:37] On Reddit for five minutes.
[01:16:38] People won't remember.
[01:16:40] The.
[01:16:41] The.
[01:16:41] The mid.
[01:16:42] 20th.
[01:16:43] Anniversary.
[01:16:43] Celebration.
[01:16:44] Event.
[01:16:44] Which wasn't the best.
[01:16:45] People won't remember.
[01:16:46] Having to do Blackrock Depths.
[01:16:48] Or.
[01:16:49] People won't remember.
[01:16:51] You know.
[01:16:51] The boring stuff.
[01:16:52] But they will remember.
[01:16:53] Like Zalatath.
[01:16:54] Solidifying her place.
[01:16:55] As a consummate.
[01:16:57] Badass.
[01:16:58] I just hope they stick the landed.
[01:16:59] And that's kind of what.
[01:17:00] We're waiting to see play out now.
[01:17:03] There it is.
[01:17:04] Couldn't have said it better myself.
[01:17:05] I think that.
[01:17:06] That hits.
[01:17:07] That hits all the points.
[01:17:09] And.
[01:17:10] You're right about the nostalgia.
[01:17:11] It is.
[01:17:12] It's that epic feeling.
[01:17:14] Of this journey.
[01:17:15] That you're on.
[01:17:15] And being a part of it.
[01:17:16] It's.
[01:17:17] It's why when I describe to people.
[01:17:19] You know.
[01:17:19] They ask.
[01:17:20] Why World of Warcraft?
[01:17:21] Why do you play that?
[01:17:21] What's the deal?
[01:17:22] I said.
[01:17:23] Imagine.
[01:17:23] Being part of like an epic story.
[01:17:25] Like Lord of the Rings.
[01:17:27] But you're like.
[01:17:27] You are one of the characters.
[01:17:29] You get to have agency within that.
[01:17:30] And like.
[01:17:30] Do something.
[01:17:31] Like.
[01:17:31] It's that.
[01:17:32] It's that.
[01:17:32] Sort of like.
[01:17:33] Epic feeling.
[01:17:34] And involvement.
[01:17:34] And you get to bring friends.
[01:17:36] Which is cool.
[01:17:37] Or find new ones.
[01:17:38] Which is rad.
[01:17:39] So.
[01:17:40] Yeah.
[01:17:40] I think that is.
[01:17:41] That is.
[01:17:42] A very accurate description.
[01:17:44] And I think that is exactly how.
[01:17:46] War Within.
[01:17:47] Is going to be.
[01:17:48] Remembered as we go.
[01:17:49] And.
[01:17:50] In August.
[01:17:52] Aligning with all of this.
[01:17:53] I had a.
[01:17:54] Had an interview.
[01:17:55] That came out.
[01:17:56] With my personal lord and savior.
[01:17:58] Chris Metzen.
[01:17:59] With Scott Johnson.
[01:18:00] Of the instance.
[01:18:02] And.
[01:18:02] We talked about a variety of things.
[01:18:04] But the one thing.
[01:18:05] That I did want to bring back up.
[01:18:06] If you haven't listened to it.
[01:18:07] You should.
[01:18:08] It's always great to hear.
[01:18:10] Metzen.
[01:18:10] And he's always saying shit.
[01:18:12] He's probably not supposed to be saying.
[01:18:13] And making.
[01:18:15] Some.
[01:18:16] You know.
[01:18:17] Handler off screen.
[01:18:18] Scream into a pillow at night.
[01:18:20] But one of the things.
[01:18:22] That he did drop.
[01:18:23] And we've talked about this.
[01:18:24] A little bit before.
[01:18:26] So we know about the world soul.
[01:18:27] Saga.
[01:18:28] That arc.
[01:18:28] So this is going to be.
[01:18:30] You know.
[01:18:31] Thinking in terms of patch cadence.
[01:18:32] Eleven.
[01:18:33] Is War Within.
[01:18:34] Twelve.
[01:18:34] Is Midnight.
[01:18:35] Thirteen.
[01:18:36] Is Last Titan.
[01:18:37] And he essentially let it slip.
[01:18:39] Or talked about the fact.
[01:18:40] That right now.
[01:18:40] They are planning up to.
[01:18:43] Seventeen.
[01:18:46] So.
[01:18:47] Not only are they.
[01:18:49] You know.
[01:18:50] Have they fleshed out this arc.
[01:18:52] They fleshed out like.
[01:18:53] The next one.
[01:18:54] And then maybe the next one.
[01:18:55] After that.
[01:18:56] Like they're.
[01:18:56] They are.
[01:18:57] Shooting so far ahead now.
[01:19:00] And I think that's part of what.
[01:19:03] Gives confidence.
[01:19:05] That like these cadences.
[01:19:06] And these other things.
[01:19:07] That they've got.
[01:19:08] You know.
[01:19:08] That they're going to hit them.
[01:19:09] But also that they're going to learn.
[01:19:10] From those lessons.
[01:19:11] Like we talked about with Sylvanas.
[01:19:13] Right.
[01:19:13] That.
[01:19:14] We really believe that some pivot.
[01:19:16] Had to be made somewhere.
[01:19:17] Because that shit.
[01:19:18] Just did not make sense.
[01:19:19] At a certain point.
[01:19:20] Like something.
[01:19:21] Something had to give.
[01:19:22] But.
[01:19:23] Now you have.
[01:19:25] The architect.
[01:19:26] In Metzen.
[01:19:27] Along with.
[01:19:28] You know.
[01:19:28] This team that's working on.
[01:19:29] Multiple expansions at a time.
[01:19:31] And going that far ahead.
[01:19:32] Into the future.
[01:19:33] You know.
[01:19:33] Again.
[01:19:34] I think that's.
[01:19:37] There's always a certain anxiety.
[01:19:39] I think.
[01:19:40] Amongst the player base.
[01:19:41] I admit that I have this myself.
[01:19:42] And maybe I'm only speaking for myself.
[01:19:44] But.
[01:19:44] I always have this sort of anxiety.
[01:19:45] Of like.
[01:19:46] How.
[01:19:46] How long can this go?
[01:19:48] Like.
[01:19:49] How long can this ride.
[01:19:51] Go?
[01:19:51] How long is World of Warcraft.
[01:19:54] Going to be an active.
[01:19:56] Developed.
[01:19:57] Thing.
[01:19:57] Because what we're experiencing with this game.
[01:19:59] Is crazy.
[01:20:00] It's 20 fucking years old.
[01:20:02] There's still.
[01:20:03] Brand new.
[01:20:04] Awesome stuff.
[01:20:05] Some of the best stuff they've ever made.
[01:20:06] Is being made.
[01:20:07] Right now.
[01:20:09] And it still continues on.
[01:20:11] You know.
[01:20:11] For.
[01:20:11] For myself.
[01:20:12] This game has been out.
[01:20:13] Basically since I got out of college.
[01:20:15] And as I mentioned before.
[01:20:16] You know.
[01:20:17] Looking ahead at the next 20 years.
[01:20:19] Which they fully believe.
[01:20:20] They're talking about decades.
[01:20:21] With the player housing.
[01:20:22] Right?
[01:20:22] So.
[01:20:23] I mean.
[01:20:24] We're talking about this game.
[01:20:26] Going on.
[01:20:26] Well into like.
[01:20:27] My retirement years.
[01:20:29] I mean.
[01:20:29] It's just.
[01:20:29] It's.
[01:20:30] It's.
[01:20:30] You don't have anything to compare this to.
[01:20:32] I mean.
[01:20:32] I've been playing Mega Man 2.
[01:20:33] Since I was like seven years old.
[01:20:35] But they're not actively developing Mega Man 2.
[01:20:37] It's the same damn cartridge.
[01:20:38] I've been playing all these years.
[01:20:40] This is an active.
[01:20:41] Vibrant.
[01:20:42] Live.
[01:20:43] Thing.
[01:20:43] And.
[01:20:44] To see that there is still.
[01:20:46] This much time.
[01:20:47] Attention.
[01:20:48] And care being put towards it.
[01:20:49] And I know.
[01:20:50] Makes money.
[01:20:51] Monthly subscriptions.
[01:20:52] It's raking it in.
[01:20:53] I.
[01:20:53] I get all of that.
[01:20:55] But.
[01:20:55] There still has to be.
[01:20:57] A core group of people behind it.
[01:20:58] That care about it.
[01:20:59] That love it.
[01:21:00] That cultivate it.
[01:21:01] And to see that there is this.
[01:21:03] Much planning.
[01:21:04] This much foresight happening.
[01:21:06] I was.
[01:21:07] Jez.
[01:21:07] I'm still shocked that they.
[01:21:09] Are thinking that far into the future.
[01:21:11] 17.
[01:21:12] That's six more from now.
[01:21:14] That's crazy.
[01:21:16] But it's awesome.
[01:21:17] It is.
[01:21:18] It's awesome.
[01:21:19] It's awesome dude.
[01:21:20] You know.
[01:21:21] If you're a Warcraft fan.
[01:21:23] Potentially.
[01:21:23] We're eating good.
[01:21:24] You know.
[01:21:24] And.
[01:21:24] I think like.
[01:21:25] A lot of Warcraft fans are kind of.
[01:21:27] There's a little bit of PTSD there.
[01:21:29] Where it's like.
[01:21:31] Yeah.
[01:21:31] I don't want to get too excited.
[01:21:32] Because I don't want to get too disappointed.
[01:21:34] But.
[01:21:35] Yeah.
[01:21:35] You know.
[01:21:37] If all goes to plan.
[01:21:40] I think.
[01:21:41] Plenty of reasons to be excited.
[01:21:44] Yeah.
[01:21:46] Yeah.
[01:21:46] It's.
[01:21:46] I hope Chris does more interviews.
[01:21:49] Even if they're not with me.
[01:21:50] That's okay.
[01:21:51] I understand.
[01:21:52] I'm.
[01:21:52] I'm.
[01:21:53] I'm the child he never wanted.
[01:21:54] But.
[01:21:55] As long as he's talking to somebody.
[01:21:57] That would be alright.
[01:21:58] So.
[01:21:59] A successful launch.
[01:22:00] I think overall.
[01:22:01] For War with it in August.
[01:22:02] And then coming into September.
[01:22:04] Season one finally went live.
[01:22:05] We have the Narrabar Palace.
[01:22:08] Raid.
[01:22:09] And.
[01:22:10] Race for World First.
[01:22:11] Was off and running.
[01:22:12] I don't.
[01:22:14] I don't know how much that matters.
[01:22:16] Anymore.
[01:22:16] I felt like.
[01:22:17] I feel like the Race for World First.
[01:22:18] Used to be a much bigger deal.
[01:22:20] And now it's.
[01:22:20] I don't know.
[01:22:21] Let's.
[01:22:22] I feel like the place that it.
[01:22:23] Hold.
[01:22:24] Yeah.
[01:22:24] I feel like the place that it holds.
[01:22:26] In the community.
[01:22:27] Is not as.
[01:22:29] Important.
[01:22:30] As it once was.
[01:22:31] And.
[01:22:31] Yeah.
[01:22:32] I don't know.
[01:22:35] Same three guilds.
[01:22:36] Two guilds that win.
[01:22:37] All the time.
[01:22:39] I don't know.
[01:22:40] Yeah.
[01:22:41] And they kind of.
[01:22:42] They make it seem arbitrary.
[01:22:43] By tuning.
[01:22:45] The raid.
[01:22:47] During.
[01:22:48] The run.
[01:22:49] So.
[01:22:50] Yeah.
[01:22:50] It's kind of like.
[01:22:51] Well.
[01:22:52] You're just going to nerf it.
[01:22:53] While they're in the middle of it.
[01:22:55] Kind of defeats the point.
[01:22:56] Right.
[01:22:58] But I don't know.
[01:22:58] It's true.
[01:22:59] Some people love it.
[01:23:00] It still gets good viewership on Twitch.
[01:23:02] So.
[01:23:02] I think it's just kind of like.
[01:23:03] Does it?
[01:23:04] Yeah.
[01:23:04] It does.
[01:23:05] That.
[01:23:05] It's always on top of Twitch.
[01:23:07] When they do it.
[01:23:07] But it's like.
[01:23:09] It's always.
[01:23:09] Like it's the same through a guild.
[01:23:11] It's always the same community.
[01:23:12] That watches it.
[01:23:13] You know.
[01:23:14] Yeah.
[01:23:15] It doesn't.
[01:23:16] But I don't think.
[01:23:16] I think esports in general.
[01:23:17] Just don't capture the zeitgeist.
[01:23:19] Like it used to.
[01:23:20] Like Overwatch.
[01:23:21] Esports.
[01:23:22] Like.
[01:23:22] Like.
[01:23:22] Esports for a little while.
[01:23:24] Again.
[01:23:24] During the pandemic.
[01:23:25] Esports was this.
[01:23:27] Massively hyped thing.
[01:23:28] But it always existed on these wafer thin margins.
[01:23:30] And since the pandemic ended.
[01:23:32] There's no.
[01:23:33] There's no money.
[01:23:34] There was never any money.
[01:23:36] But during the pandemic.
[01:23:37] It looked like.
[01:23:37] Oh.
[01:23:38] Actually there might be some money.
[01:23:39] So they invested in it.
[01:23:40] After the pandemic.
[01:23:42] Interest rates went up.
[01:23:43] Bench capital dried up.
[01:23:44] And they realized.
[01:23:45] Actually.
[01:23:46] This is not going anywhere.
[01:23:48] So.
[01:23:48] I think the race world felt.
[01:23:50] Suffered.
[01:23:51] A bit from that.
[01:23:52] But.
[01:23:53] There's a community around it.
[01:23:54] And I think Blizzard will keep.
[01:23:55] Doing it.
[01:23:55] Just to serve that community.
[01:23:58] They need to jazz it up.
[01:23:59] They need like a.
[01:24:01] I know they do this.
[01:24:02] Like variety show.
[01:24:03] But they truly need.
[01:24:03] Like a game show.
[01:24:04] Like a real game show.
[01:24:05] Like a host.
[01:24:06] I'm volunteering.
[01:24:07] That's what I'm doing.
[01:24:08] You need.
[01:24:08] You need a real.
[01:24:10] Show.
[01:24:11] Like a real.
[01:24:11] Something.
[01:24:12] Not.
[01:24:12] Not.
[01:24:13] Not these nerds.
[01:24:14] That are doing what they're doing now.
[01:24:15] You need.
[01:24:16] You need.
[01:24:16] You need to jazz it up.
[01:24:17] You know.
[01:24:18] I'll be the Pat Sajak.
[01:24:19] For the.
[01:24:21] For the worst world first.
[01:24:23] You know who Pat Sajak is?
[01:24:24] Is he.
[01:24:25] Is he global enough?
[01:24:25] Do you know who that is?
[01:24:27] The host of Wheel of Fortune.
[01:24:29] Game show here.
[01:24:30] Oh.
[01:24:30] We have our own host.
[01:24:31] For Wheel of Fortune.
[01:24:33] Oh.
[01:24:34] Okay.
[01:24:34] What's his name?
[01:24:35] He was here for like.
[01:24:35] Super famous here.
[01:24:37] Yeah.
[01:24:37] We have Wheel of Fortune here as well.
[01:24:39] And it was like.
[01:24:40] Oh.
[01:24:40] Okay.
[01:24:41] You have your own version.
[01:24:42] There it is.
[01:24:44] Actually.
[01:24:45] Believe it or not.
[01:24:47] Oh.
[01:24:47] Actually.
[01:24:47] No.
[01:24:47] It was.
[01:24:48] It was American first.
[01:24:50] Usually.
[01:24:50] It's the other way around.
[01:24:51] Usually.
[01:24:51] America steals British shows.
[01:24:53] But.
[01:24:53] This is actually.
[01:24:55] For once.
[01:24:56] An American creation.
[01:24:58] And.
[01:24:58] Our host was called.
[01:25:00] Merv Griffin.
[01:25:00] Merv Griffin.
[01:25:01] That is best.
[01:25:02] Yeah.
[01:25:02] He created it.
[01:25:03] As well.
[01:25:04] Yep.
[01:25:04] As he hosted it too.
[01:25:06] Or.
[01:25:08] I don't remember if he hosted.
[01:25:09] But Pat Sajak.
[01:25:10] Was like the host.
[01:25:11] For like 40 years.
[01:25:12] And.
[01:25:13] He just retired.
[01:25:14] And now it's Ryan Seacrest.
[01:25:15] I will not be the Ryan Seacrest.
[01:25:17] But I will be the Pat Sajak.
[01:25:18] I'm happy to do that.
[01:25:19] I fall into it.
[01:25:20] He was.
[01:25:21] Joblessly.
[01:25:22] I suppose.
[01:25:23] He's the famous host.
[01:25:26] Okay.
[01:25:27] You can be.
[01:25:27] You can be that one.
[01:25:28] I'll be this one.
[01:25:29] We can tag team it.
[01:25:30] That's how we can do it.
[01:25:33] For.
[01:25:34] Narrabar Palace.
[01:25:34] We also saw for the first time.
[01:25:35] The story mode.
[01:25:36] Which was great for people like me.
[01:25:38] Who are not actively part of a raid team.
[01:25:40] And still got to see the end.
[01:25:42] Of the raid.
[01:25:43] With.
[01:25:43] You know.
[01:25:43] AI.
[01:25:44] Team members.
[01:25:45] And that was pretty cool.
[01:25:46] You know.
[01:25:47] I'm sure that they'll.
[01:25:48] Continue to flesh that out.
[01:25:49] But it was a.
[01:25:50] It was a great way to be able to.
[01:25:51] Complete the quest.
[01:25:52] There's always some quest to kill the final boss.
[01:25:54] And you never get to do it.
[01:25:56] If you're not part of a certain team.
[01:25:57] Or whatever.
[01:25:58] But seeing it through LFR.
[01:25:59] And doing the story mode.
[01:26:01] It was awesome.
[01:26:02] I loved it.
[01:26:02] As a solo player.
[01:26:04] But for you Jez.
[01:26:05] As somebody who is.
[01:26:06] On a live.
[01:26:07] And breathing.
[01:26:08] Raid team.
[01:26:09] What.
[01:26:10] What would you give for a final grade.
[01:26:12] On Narrabar Palace.
[01:26:13] This first shot.
[01:26:14] First season raid.
[01:26:16] And world within.
[01:26:17] I thought it was quite good.
[01:26:19] There was nothing in there.
[01:26:21] That was too surprising.
[01:26:22] Or shocking.
[01:26:23] But I thought like.
[01:26:24] I thought the.
[01:26:25] The run up to Anserek.
[01:26:27] Was a bit weird.
[01:26:27] It's like.
[01:26:28] You know.
[01:26:29] You fight through.
[01:26:31] This is supposed to be.
[01:26:32] The Queen's Palace.
[01:26:34] Right.
[01:26:35] I'm supposed to believe.
[01:26:36] This is the Queen's Palace.
[01:26:38] And then when you get to her.
[01:26:39] She's like.
[01:26:40] She's basically undefended.
[01:26:42] You know.
[01:26:43] I mean.
[01:26:43] Yeah.
[01:26:44] I get.
[01:26:44] We fight for a lieutenant.
[01:26:46] And stuff like that.
[01:26:46] But.
[01:26:46] In my head.
[01:26:48] The Queen.
[01:26:49] Of a colony.
[01:26:50] Will be.
[01:26:51] Surrounded by swarms.
[01:26:52] Of.
[01:26:53] Ads.
[01:26:53] And.
[01:26:54] There is an ad phase in it.
[01:26:55] But it's like.
[01:26:56] It's not many ads.
[01:26:58] Really.
[01:26:58] Yeah.
[01:26:58] So like.
[01:26:59] I think the climax of the raid.
[01:27:01] I think it was a bit anticlimactic.
[01:27:03] Queen Anserek was.
[01:27:04] Quite an easy boss.
[01:27:06] Once they nerfed.
[01:27:08] That one mechanic.
[01:27:09] That was just a pain.
[01:27:10] In the ass.
[01:27:11] To deal with.
[01:27:12] I can't remember what it was now.
[01:27:13] They nerfed a specific mechanic.
[01:27:15] There's a mechanic where you have to like.
[01:27:17] Bounce over like.
[01:27:17] A slime circle.
[01:27:19] Thing.
[01:27:20] And.
[01:27:20] That.
[01:27:21] There was an issue where.
[01:27:22] An overlapping mechanic.
[01:27:25] Was really.
[01:27:26] Really hard to deal with.
[01:27:27] But once they nerfed that.
[01:27:28] Thing.
[01:27:29] I can't remember what it was.
[01:27:30] But they nerfed.
[01:27:31] One aspect of the fight.
[01:27:32] It basically made the fight.
[01:27:34] Super easy.
[01:27:35] And then after that.
[01:27:35] We just completely cleared it.
[01:27:38] A million times.
[01:27:40] I think on heroic difficulty.
[01:27:43] I kind of want Blizzard.
[01:27:44] To have another look at heroic difficulty.
[01:27:46] Because it honestly feels like.
[01:27:47] With heroic.
[01:27:48] It's like.
[01:27:49] They basically give you.
[01:27:50] The first two thirds of the raid.
[01:27:53] It's like.
[01:27:53] The first two thirds of the raid.
[01:27:54] Are just brain dead easy.
[01:27:57] Like.
[01:27:57] You go in there.
[01:27:58] And you.
[01:27:59] One shot.
[01:27:59] Every single boss.
[01:28:00] If you've done it on normal.
[01:28:02] And then like.
[01:28:02] It's like the last three bosses.
[01:28:04] The spike in difficulty.
[01:28:05] Is massive.
[01:28:06] And it's like.
[01:28:07] Oh okay.
[01:28:07] This is really hard.
[01:28:08] We were stuck on the.
[01:28:10] Ovinax thing.
[01:28:11] That lava grub thing.
[01:28:13] For ages.
[01:28:14] While the whole raid team.
[01:28:15] Like.
[01:28:15] Got to grips with.
[01:28:17] The egg.
[01:28:18] Destroying order.
[01:28:19] I don't know.
[01:28:20] Egg.
[01:28:20] Bosses where you have to kill eggs.
[01:28:21] Always.
[01:28:22] Ruin my guild.
[01:28:23] For some reason.
[01:28:24] But.
[01:28:25] Overall.
[01:28:26] I think it was a good raid.
[01:28:27] I think.
[01:28:28] Pacing was a bit strange.
[01:28:30] Difficulty.
[01:28:31] Scaling was a bit strange.
[01:28:32] But yeah.
[01:28:33] It was pretty good.
[01:28:36] So there we go.
[01:28:38] Uh.
[01:28:38] Season one.
[01:28:39] Decent raid.
[01:28:40] And.
[01:28:40] Uh.
[01:28:40] Then in October.
[01:28:42] We have a current patch launch.
[01:28:44] Uh.
[01:28:44] 11.0.5.
[01:28:46] This has all the 20th anniversary events.
[01:28:48] Which was.
[01:28:49] A whole revamp of that area.
[01:28:51] Out in Tenaris.
[01:28:52] Out by the Caverns of Time.
[01:28:53] And there's a whole slew of events.
[01:28:55] Still ongoing.
[01:28:56] So if you haven't.
[01:28:58] Done much of it.
[01:28:59] There's still plenty of time.
[01:29:01] You got at least another month.
[01:29:03] Uh.
[01:29:03] Uh.
[01:29:03] Where you'll be able to get out there.
[01:29:05] And get your.
[01:29:07] Uh.
[01:29:07] Transmog if you want it.
[01:29:09] Your anniversary transmog.
[01:29:10] There's a secret.
[01:29:11] That's going on right now.
[01:29:13] For the fell cycle.
[01:29:14] Uh.
[01:29:14] The green one.
[01:29:15] And they haven't quite solved it yet.
[01:29:16] So you got time to catch up.
[01:29:18] Although I do understand.
[01:29:18] That part of it involves.
[01:29:20] Uh.
[01:29:20] Using battle pets.
[01:29:22] From other secrets.
[01:29:23] And that sounds.
[01:29:25] Irritating as shit to me.
[01:29:26] But.
[01:29:27] Uh.
[01:29:28] There's guides.
[01:29:29] You can get out there.
[01:29:30] There's also a very long quest line.
[01:29:32] Related to guest relations.
[01:29:33] There's a whole thing about that.
[01:29:34] Uh.
[01:29:35] And I know that there's some emotional beats in there.
[01:29:37] That folks might enjoy.
[01:29:38] Uh.
[01:29:39] So if you haven't gotten out there yet.
[01:29:40] It's still going on.
[01:29:42] Uh.
[01:29:42] You know.
[01:29:43] October.
[01:29:43] October.
[01:29:44] To now.
[01:29:44] You know.
[01:29:45] Well.
[01:29:45] It's.
[01:29:45] You know.
[01:29:46] Getting a little long in the tooth.
[01:29:47] You know.
[01:29:47] Looking at a couple of months.
[01:29:49] Um.
[01:29:50] But that is still happening.
[01:29:51] Uh.
[01:29:52] We also had the great Bruto drama.
[01:29:53] Back in October.
[01:29:54] I know you all remember that well.
[01:29:56] And have already forgotten.
[01:29:57] Uh.
[01:29:57] But.
[01:29:58] All that seems to have calmed down.
[01:30:00] Like.
[01:30:00] Most of the.
[01:30:02] You know.
[01:30:03] Catastrophes that happen around this place.
[01:30:05] Uh.
[01:30:05] And that leads us into.
[01:30:07] November.
[01:30:08] Where.
[01:30:09] World of Warcraft.
[01:30:10] Officially.
[01:30:10] Turned.
[01:30:11] 20.
[01:30:12] Uh.
[01:30:12] Just a few weeks ago.
[01:30:13] And.
[01:30:14] And truly.
[01:30:14] What a.
[01:30:15] Long strange trip.
[01:30:17] Uh.
[01:30:17] It has been.
[01:30:18] Uh.
[01:30:19] Last month.
[01:30:20] They also announced.
[01:30:21] Patch 11.07.
[01:30:23] Siren Isle.
[01:30:24] Uh.
[01:30:24] But more importantly.
[01:30:25] They had Warcraft Direct.
[01:30:27] Finally had the Warcraft Direct.
[01:30:29] Last month.
[01:30:30] And.
[01:30:31] You know.
[01:30:32] Not having a BlizzCon.
[01:30:33] We're all sitting around waiting.
[01:30:34] What.
[01:30:34] You know.
[01:30:35] What are you going to tell us?
[01:30:35] What's going on?
[01:30:36] What's happening?
[01:30:36] And they talked about.
[01:30:37] Uh.
[01:30:38] Things for.
[01:30:38] Pretty much all the franchises.
[01:30:40] Uh.
[01:30:41] Going on related to Warcraft.
[01:30:42] But for us.
[01:30:43] Specifically.
[01:30:44] The long awaited.
[01:30:45] Patch 11.1.
[01:30:46] Was announced.
[01:30:48] Undermined.
[01:30:49] We talked about last time.
[01:30:50] We're going to be liberating.
[01:30:51] Undermine.
[01:30:52] Taking on Gallywix.
[01:30:54] There's going to be ground mounts.
[01:30:55] Going wild.
[01:30:56] It's going to be a whole.
[01:30:57] Crazy goblin adventure.
[01:31:00] Um.
[01:31:01] I also talked about player housing.
[01:31:03] They teased player housing.
[01:31:04] And that's something that.
[01:31:05] There's been much discussion since.
[01:31:07] Uh.
[01:31:07] They're very open to hearing.
[01:31:09] About Blizzard is.
[01:31:10] What we want it to be.
[01:31:12] What it should or shouldn't be.
[01:31:13] And Jez.
[01:31:14] You and I kind of theorized.
[01:31:15] Uh.
[01:31:16] What that could look like.
[01:31:17] And some questions that they.
[01:31:18] Probably should ask themselves.
[01:31:20] Uh.
[01:31:21] About all of this.
[01:31:22] Um.
[01:31:23] And of course.
[01:31:24] We got a 2025.
[01:31:27] Roadmap.
[01:31:28] We got a sense of.
[01:31:29] What is coming next year.
[01:31:30] So not just.
[01:31:31] Uh.
[01:31:32] The 1107.
[01:31:33] Uh.
[01:31:34] Patch.
[01:31:34] Which is happening.
[01:31:35] Uh.
[01:31:36] Imminently.
[01:31:36] Uh.
[01:31:37] But the Undermined Passion 11.
[01:31:38] One.
[01:31:39] And then.
[01:31:40] It looks like.
[01:31:42] Spring into summer.
[01:31:44] Something very bad.
[01:31:45] Is probably going to happen.
[01:31:47] Uh.
[01:31:47] With.
[01:31:48] It looks like.
[01:31:49] No season four.
[01:31:50] And.
[01:31:51] This time next year.
[01:31:52] We're going to be.
[01:31:54] Probably in the throes of midnight.
[01:31:56] We talked about.
[01:31:57] Uh.
[01:31:58] There's going to be.
[01:31:59] An expansion reveal.
[01:32:00] Late summer.
[01:32:01] Whatever happens in season three.
[01:32:03] Whatever that new zone.
[01:32:04] And raid.
[01:32:05] And 11.
[01:32:05] 2 is.
[01:32:06] A lot of people theorize.
[01:32:07] It's going to be something related to.
[01:32:09] Ethereals.
[01:32:09] Or.
[01:32:10] Something in that zone.
[01:32:11] That realm.
[01:32:12] Uh.
[01:32:13] But it's going to go bad.
[01:32:15] We.
[01:32:15] We.
[01:32:15] We all seem to think.
[01:32:16] It's going to go bad.
[01:32:17] Probably because they told us so.
[01:32:19] Uh.
[01:32:19] Back at BlizzCon.
[01:32:21] Um.
[01:32:22] But.
[01:32:23] Uh.
[01:32:23] Then looking ahead.
[01:32:25] At this player housing.
[01:32:26] Being part of midnight.
[01:32:28] And.
[01:32:28] And this time next year.
[01:32:29] We.
[01:32:30] Looks like we should have it.
[01:32:31] We should be in our houses.
[01:32:33] There's probably some sort of.
[01:32:34] Legion remix.
[01:32:35] Happening right about now.
[01:32:36] Uh.
[01:32:37] You know.
[01:32:37] A year from now.
[01:32:38] If I'm listening back on this.
[01:32:39] So looking at my notes.
[01:32:40] We'll see how correct.
[01:32:41] Uh.
[01:32:41] All of that is.
[01:32:42] Uh.
[01:32:43] But again.
[01:32:44] Giving us a good idea.
[01:32:45] Of what to expect next year.
[01:32:47] And we have really no reason to believe.
[01:32:49] That they're not going to hit these marks.
[01:32:51] Because they have been now.
[01:32:52] Uh.
[01:32:52] For several years.
[01:32:53] And it gives us an opportunity.
[01:32:55] To also.
[01:32:56] Plan out catching.
[01:32:57] Up on our potential backlog of games.
[01:33:00] Uh.
[01:33:01] Depending on how much.
[01:33:02] We are invested in certain parts of these.
[01:33:05] Uh.
[01:33:05] Sub patches.
[01:33:06] But.
[01:33:07] Uh.
[01:33:07] Overall.
[01:33:08] I think the world.
[01:33:10] Uh.
[01:33:10] You know.
[01:33:10] The Warcraft Direct.
[01:33:12] I think it delivered.
[01:33:13] What it needed to.
[01:33:14] Uh.
[01:33:15] But for Jez.
[01:33:15] What was.
[01:33:16] What was the most impactful thing.
[01:33:18] You thought came out of that Warcraft Direct.
[01:33:20] Because you got to see it early.
[01:33:21] I did.
[01:33:22] I did get to see it early.
[01:33:24] It was player housing for me man.
[01:33:25] Easily.
[01:33:26] You know.
[01:33:27] I.
[01:33:27] I knew.
[01:33:27] I knew that.
[01:33:28] I kind of used to the.
[01:33:30] The season cycle now.
[01:33:31] And it's like.
[01:33:32] I.
[01:33:32] Obviously there was a.
[01:33:33] A new season coming.
[01:33:35] And if you pay attention to the lore.
[01:33:37] The hints in game.
[01:33:38] It was kind of.
[01:33:41] It's kind of obvious.
[01:33:42] That it was going to be Goblin themed.
[01:33:44] So I was kind of like.
[01:33:45] Mm-hmm.
[01:33:46] I was kind of like.
[01:33:47] Not totally surprised.
[01:33:49] That it was Goblin themed.
[01:33:51] Um.
[01:33:51] But it was nice to see.
[01:33:53] Undermine.
[01:33:54] You know.
[01:33:54] Because.
[01:33:55] My Goblin homies.
[01:33:56] We've been waiting to see.
[01:33:57] Undermine for a long time.
[01:33:58] So it's.
[01:33:59] It's really great to see that realized.
[01:34:00] And I expect a lot of Goblin RP.
[01:34:02] Will shift over to there.
[01:34:04] But.
[01:34:04] It looks like they've realized it.
[01:34:06] In a really cool way.
[01:34:07] It's going to be cool to see.
[01:34:08] Gazelow.
[01:34:09] Of Heroes of the Storm fame.
[01:34:11] Coming to his own.
[01:34:12] And also.
[01:34:14] And also.
[01:34:16] It's.
[01:34:17] You know.
[01:34:18] So.
[01:34:18] I love that stuff.
[01:34:19] But for me.
[01:34:19] It was player housing man.
[01:34:20] Like.
[01:34:22] They.
[01:34:24] When I interviewed them about.
[01:34:26] The first time I interviewed them in London.
[01:34:28] It was.
[01:34:29] I think it was Maria Hamilton.
[01:34:31] I spoke to.
[01:34:31] That's her name.
[01:34:32] Right.
[01:34:33] Maria Hamilton.
[01:34:34] Um.
[01:34:35] I spoke to her about.
[01:34:37] I spoke to her about.
[01:34:38] Player housing.
[01:34:39] And.
[01:34:40] I just kind of.
[01:34:40] It seemed like.
[01:34:41] She seemed almost annoyed.
[01:34:43] That I'd asked the question.
[01:34:44] Like she was fed up.
[01:34:45] Of getting that question all the time.
[01:34:47] Right.
[01:34:48] So I was like.
[01:34:49] Oh God.
[01:34:49] I've asked a dumb question here.
[01:34:51] But.
[01:34:52] She must have been sitting there.
[01:34:53] Knowing the whole time.
[01:34:54] Whereas like.
[01:34:55] Yeah.
[01:34:56] We know.
[01:34:57] We're working on it.
[01:34:57] Okay.
[01:34:58] Um.
[01:34:59] So.
[01:35:00] Uh.
[01:35:01] Maybe.
[01:35:02] Maybe they're working on it.
[01:35:02] Just to get.
[01:35:03] People to shut up asking about it.
[01:35:05] But.
[01:35:05] It just makes.
[01:35:07] It makes sense for a game like this.
[01:35:09] To have.
[01:35:10] Ways you can express yourself.
[01:35:12] Right.
[01:35:12] And.
[01:35:13] The most.
[01:35:13] One of the most popular things.
[01:35:15] They've added to the game.
[01:35:16] In recent years.
[01:35:16] Has been transmog.
[01:35:17] And it's kind of like.
[01:35:19] Well.
[01:35:19] Yeah.
[01:35:19] What's the natural extension of transmog.
[01:35:21] You know.
[01:35:21] If you customize your character.
[01:35:23] The natural extensions of that.
[01:35:25] Are either like.
[01:35:26] Mount customization.
[01:35:28] At which they've done.
[01:35:29] With dragons.
[01:35:30] And that little dirigible thing.
[01:35:32] From the.
[01:35:32] The delves.
[01:35:33] But they can't apply that.
[01:35:35] To all mounts.
[01:35:36] You know.
[01:35:37] So.
[01:35:38] I mean.
[01:35:39] Well.
[01:35:39] Maybe they could.
[01:35:40] But.
[01:35:40] It would be a lot of work.
[01:35:42] So.
[01:35:42] If they're going to do something.
[01:35:43] From the ground up.
[01:35:43] Something new.
[01:35:44] Something fresh.
[01:35:45] It just kind of makes sense.
[01:35:47] Player housing.
[01:35:48] You know.
[01:35:48] You could tie a profession to it.
[01:35:49] You could tie every profession to it.
[01:35:51] Really.
[01:35:52] You know.
[01:35:52] You could have tailors.
[01:35:53] Making carpets for player houses.
[01:35:55] You could have engineers.
[01:35:56] Making little ornaments.
[01:35:57] Blacksmiths making like.
[01:35:58] Decorative swords.
[01:35:59] Or whatever.
[01:36:00] It's a.
[01:36:01] It's just a really cool feature.
[01:36:02] That could feed a lot of other.
[01:36:04] Permanent aspects of the game.
[01:36:07] But.
[01:36:07] It always felt like.
[01:36:09] They just didn't want to do it.
[01:36:10] For whatever reason.
[01:36:10] Like.
[01:36:11] They were thinking like.
[01:36:12] Too much investment.
[01:36:13] Too complicated.
[01:36:14] Will people actually use it?
[01:36:16] But I suppose.
[01:36:16] With the.
[01:36:17] With the rise of popularity.
[01:36:18] Final Fantasy 14.
[01:36:19] And.
[01:36:20] The fact that Final Fantasy 14.
[01:36:21] Is player housing.
[01:36:22] Is so popular.
[01:36:23] That it.
[01:36:23] Drain server resources.
[01:36:25] You know.
[01:36:25] Which is an issue for them.
[01:36:27] But it's.
[01:36:27] It shouldn't be an issue.
[01:36:28] For Activision Blizzard.
[01:36:29] With Microsoft.
[01:36:30] The cloud company.
[01:36:31] You know.
[01:36:31] Working together.
[01:36:32] Yeah.
[01:36:32] Shouldn't be so much of an issue.
[01:36:34] It's like.
[01:36:35] Sure.
[01:36:35] You know.
[01:36:35] And games like The Sims.
[01:36:36] Are so popular man.
[01:36:38] They are so popular.
[01:36:40] Um.
[01:36:41] Yeah.
[01:36:41] You know.
[01:36:41] Where you can make your own little house.
[01:36:43] Have all your little pets.
[01:36:44] Running around.
[01:36:45] Fallout 76.
[01:36:47] You know.
[01:36:47] Making.
[01:36:48] Making your base.
[01:36:49] Is like.
[01:36:50] Essential.
[01:36:51] Gameplay.
[01:36:51] In that game.
[01:36:52] You know.
[01:36:53] Minecraft.
[01:36:54] For God's sake.
[01:36:54] First thing you.
[01:36:55] Fire up a new Minecraft server.
[01:36:56] You make your little base bro.
[01:36:58] So.
[01:36:59] Yeah.
[01:36:59] I'm glad to see they finally.
[01:37:01] Got their head out of the sand.
[01:37:03] And realized that.
[01:37:04] Play housing is.
[01:37:05] The goat feature.
[01:37:06] That should have been in the game.
[01:37:07] Decades ago.
[01:37:08] But.
[01:37:09] Yeah.
[01:37:10] That was for me.
[01:37:10] That was it for me.
[01:37:11] Warcraft Direct.
[01:37:12] Play housing.
[01:37:13] Light mode.
[01:37:14] Engaged.
[01:37:16] Oh.
[01:37:17] There it is.
[01:37:18] Well.
[01:37:18] I.
[01:37:18] Yeah.
[01:37:20] My interest is peaked.
[01:37:21] I'll say that.
[01:37:21] My interest is peaked.
[01:37:22] We'll see what happens.
[01:37:24] I've always wondered.
[01:37:25] You know.
[01:37:26] I have said.
[01:37:27] And I maintain.
[01:37:28] I will have an active subscription.
[01:37:30] To this game.
[01:37:30] As long as.
[01:37:31] There is.
[01:37:32] One server left.
[01:37:34] On this planet.
[01:37:34] That's running the fucking thing.
[01:37:35] So I.
[01:37:36] I very well.
[01:37:37] Could.
[01:37:37] Have it in my estate.
[01:37:39] You know.
[01:37:39] That when I die.
[01:37:40] You know.
[01:37:44] Forever.
[01:37:45] But I've always wondered.
[01:37:47] Like.
[01:37:48] If my character.
[01:37:49] Were to retire.
[01:37:50] Where would they retire to?
[01:37:51] I always assumed.
[01:37:52] It was going to be like.
[01:37:53] Karazhan or something.
[01:37:54] But.
[01:37:54] You know.
[01:37:56] Maybe.
[01:37:57] You know.
[01:37:57] With a nice house.
[01:37:58] A place to put my shit.
[01:37:59] Maybe that's the spot.
[01:38:00] So.
[01:38:01] We'll see.
[01:38:02] But people.
[01:38:02] Get out there.
[01:38:03] Get on the forums.
[01:38:04] Give your feedback.
[01:38:04] They're asking for it.
[01:38:05] Active right now.
[01:38:06] As we speak.
[01:38:08] We're coming now.
[01:38:09] Into December.
[01:38:09] And we're.
[01:38:10] We're still.
[01:38:10] You know.
[01:38:11] Early-ish December.
[01:38:12] But.
[01:38:14] We are on the verge.
[01:38:15] Of the next big chapter.
[01:38:17] Of this.
[01:38:18] Expansion.
[01:38:18] Of this franchise.
[01:38:19] Of the whole kit and caboodle.
[01:38:21] You know.
[01:38:21] We know.
[01:38:21] Undermined is next.
[01:38:22] But.
[01:38:23] We don't really know.
[01:38:24] Why.
[01:38:25] Undermined.
[01:38:25] Is the place.
[01:38:26] They insist that.
[01:38:27] This is integral to.
[01:38:29] The story.
[01:38:30] And this.
[01:38:30] Relates to the larger story.
[01:38:32] That's being told.
[01:38:33] The Zalatap.
[01:38:33] And everything else.
[01:38:34] And we haven't quite.
[01:38:35] I think.
[01:38:36] Seen what that connection.
[01:38:37] Is all about.
[01:38:37] So.
[01:38:38] Mysteries.
[01:38:39] Still abound.
[01:38:40] And then.
[01:38:40] What comes after that.
[01:38:41] We assume it's bad.
[01:38:43] But we don't.
[01:38:44] Really know.
[01:38:45] But 11.07.
[01:38:47] The next patch.
[01:38:48] Is hitting on December 17th.
[01:38:50] So next week.
[01:38:51] We will have another patch.
[01:38:53] Coming.
[01:38:54] And this will be.
[01:38:55] Taking us to the mysterious.
[01:38:57] Siren Isle.
[01:38:58] Where there is a former.
[01:39:00] Azerite mining.
[01:39:02] Operation.
[01:39:02] That was happening here.
[01:39:03] On this.
[01:39:04] On this island.
[01:39:05] These Kulterans.
[01:39:05] They were doing.
[01:39:06] God knows what there.
[01:39:07] And then.
[01:39:07] Oh.
[01:39:09] It disappeared.
[01:39:10] Don't know what happened.
[01:39:13] Mysteries abound.
[01:39:14] Apparently.
[01:39:14] And we'll be heading out there.
[01:39:16] And siding with.
[01:39:17] Arathi.
[01:39:18] Earthen or goblins.
[01:39:19] To earn certain rewards.
[01:39:21] Or open up caves.
[01:39:22] Where there's.
[01:39:23] Addies and treasure.
[01:39:24] And.
[01:39:24] We have a new.
[01:39:26] Ring.
[01:39:26] A Cersei's circlet.
[01:39:28] Which will have different gems.
[01:39:29] That you can slot in there.
[01:39:30] And give yourself some boosts.
[01:39:32] And it's.
[01:39:33] It's generally.
[01:39:34] Seems like it's meant to be.
[01:39:35] A catch up.
[01:39:36] Spot.
[01:39:37] Where you get your alts.
[01:39:38] Geared up.
[01:39:39] And do different things.
[01:39:40] And be ready for.
[01:39:41] Uh.
[01:39:41] Patch.
[01:39:42] 11.1.
[01:39:43] Uh.
[01:39:44] When that fires up.
[01:39:45] It looks like.
[01:39:46] Probably.
[01:39:47] Mid January.
[01:39:48] Mid to late January.
[01:39:49] Is.
[01:39:49] Is kind of how this is shaping up.
[01:39:50] So.
[01:39:51] Um.
[01:39:52] That's coming right around the corner.
[01:39:54] Should be some new activity.
[01:39:55] And we'll see what sort of secrets.
[01:39:56] Abound there.
[01:39:57] Because they.
[01:39:58] They have made it a point.
[01:39:59] To say that there is.
[01:40:00] There is stuff there.
[01:40:01] That hasn't been found.
[01:40:03] Or needs to be found.
[01:40:03] Or something.
[01:40:04] So.
[01:40:04] Uh.
[01:40:05] Hopefully that.
[01:40:06] Peaks.
[01:40:07] Folks.
[01:40:07] Interest.
[01:40:08] But that's.
[01:40:09] That's where we are.
[01:40:11] That's the year.
[01:40:12] That has been.
[01:40:13] In World of Warcraft.
[01:40:15] Uh.
[01:40:15] It's really been.
[01:40:16] In a year.
[01:40:17] Quite a seesaw.
[01:40:18] Ups and downs.
[01:40:20] Uh.
[01:40:20] All over the place.
[01:40:21] Uh.
[01:40:22] You know.
[01:40:22] Again.
[01:40:23] Going back to.
[01:40:23] When we had.
[01:40:25] Layoffs kicking off the year.
[01:40:26] And we had the.
[01:40:27] Probably one of the best.
[01:40:28] Expansion launches of all time.
[01:40:30] Towards the.
[01:40:30] The middle.
[01:40:31] In the end.
[01:40:31] Um.
[01:40:32] It's really been a seesaw ride.
[01:40:34] Um.
[01:40:35] But a very important year.
[01:40:37] For World of Warcraft.
[01:40:38] And a huge one.
[01:40:39] And things continue to.
[01:40:41] Uh.
[01:40:41] To look.
[01:40:42] Uh.
[01:40:42] Positive.
[01:40:43] Uh.
[01:40:43] I think for World of Warcraft.
[01:40:45] Uh.
[01:40:45] But for you Jez.
[01:40:47] Uh.
[01:40:47] Final word.
[01:40:48] Looking back on this year.
[01:40:50] Uh.
[01:40:51] Any.
[01:40:51] Any final thoughts.
[01:40:52] Any parting thoughts.
[01:40:53] On 2024.
[01:40:56] I don't know man.
[01:40:57] Uh.
[01:40:58] Final thoughts.
[01:40:59] I suppose.
[01:41:00] Um.
[01:41:01] You know.
[01:41:03] It's going to be.
[01:41:05] Interesting.
[01:41:05] To see how.
[01:41:07] Microsoft.
[01:41:08] Messes with Battle.
[01:41:09] Net.
[01:41:10] Because I don't know if you noticed.
[01:41:11] But there's a big advert for Indiana Jones.
[01:41:13] On Battle.
[01:41:13] Net right now.
[01:41:14] And there's also.
[01:41:15] I did not know.
[01:41:15] Yeah.
[01:41:16] There's a big advert for Indiana Jones.
[01:41:17] Battle.
[01:41:17] Net.
[01:41:18] Even though you can't buy it there.
[01:41:19] Oh.
[01:41:19] Which links to.
[01:41:20] Xbox.com.
[01:41:22] And then there's.
[01:41:23] Okay.
[01:41:23] Also.
[01:41:24] Avowed.
[01:41:25] Which is an upcoming RPG from Microsoft.
[01:41:28] From Obsidian.
[01:41:30] That's available to buy.
[01:41:32] In Battle.
[01:41:32] Net.
[01:41:33] But also.
[01:41:34] If you've got Xbox Game Pass.
[01:41:36] You don't even have to buy it.
[01:41:38] But you can install it from Battle.
[01:41:40] Net.
[01:41:40] Which is very.
[01:41:41] Very strange.
[01:41:42] But they're like.
[01:41:43] Pulling some weird experiments.
[01:41:45] With Battle.
[01:41:45] Net right now.
[01:41:46] Microsoft is.
[01:41:48] So.
[01:41:48] I'm wondering.
[01:41:50] What.
[01:41:50] Their direction is going to be.
[01:41:52] For Battle.
[01:41:52] Net.
[01:41:53] Whether they're going to put.
[01:41:54] All of.
[01:41:55] Xbox's PC stuff.
[01:41:57] Into Battle.
[01:41:57] Net.
[01:41:58] Like PC Game Pass.
[01:41:59] All that stuff.
[01:42:00] Because right now.
[01:42:01] They've got their Xbox.
[01:42:03] Xbox PC app.
[01:42:04] Which.
[01:42:05] Is okay.
[01:42:07] Not the best.
[01:42:08] Battle.
[01:42:09] Net is a lot better.
[01:42:10] But at the same time.
[01:42:12] I don't know how.
[01:42:14] I don't know how.
[01:42:15] Blizzard players would feel.
[01:42:16] About.
[01:42:18] All of Game Pass.
[01:42:19] PC Game Pass.
[01:42:20] Suddenly flooding.
[01:42:21] Into Battle.
[01:42:21] Net.
[01:42:22] And then.
[01:42:23] Microsoft ditching.
[01:42:24] Their own app store.
[01:42:25] For it.
[01:42:25] So that would be interesting.
[01:42:27] To see how.
[01:42:28] Microsoft handles.
[01:42:28] All that stuff.
[01:42:29] But.
[01:42:30] How would you feel about that.
[01:42:32] By the way.
[01:42:33] If all of a sudden.
[01:42:34] You looked.
[01:42:35] You logged into Battle.
[01:42:35] Net.
[01:42:36] And then there was suddenly.
[01:42:37] A Game Pass page.
[01:42:38] And there were games.
[01:42:39] Like Forza.
[01:42:40] Flight Simulator.
[01:42:42] Stalker 2.
[01:42:43] All over the screen.
[01:42:44] Would that bother you?
[01:42:46] Or would you just be like.
[01:42:47] Honestly.
[01:42:47] I'm pretty agnostic to it.
[01:42:49] Because.
[01:42:49] Yeah.
[01:42:50] I mean.
[01:42:50] I never played Call of Duty.
[01:42:51] But there was a new Call of Duty.
[01:42:53] Always being flashed at me.
[01:42:54] Or whether it was.
[01:42:55] Back in the days.
[01:42:55] When Destiny 2.
[01:42:56] Was part of the family.
[01:42:57] And that was always being.
[01:42:59] Put up every time.
[01:43:00] I brought up Battle.
[01:43:00] Net.
[01:43:01] So I don't know.
[01:43:01] I kind of don't.
[01:43:03] It's almost white noise.
[01:43:04] At this point.
[01:43:05] Where I just.
[01:43:06] I just click out of it.
[01:43:07] And don't pay attention.
[01:43:08] And I'm like.
[01:43:08] I'm just going to Warcraft.
[01:43:10] So.
[01:43:11] I mean.
[01:43:11] They could put almost anything up there.
[01:43:13] And I don't know.
[01:43:15] I don't know that.
[01:43:16] Like I care.
[01:43:17] Honestly.
[01:43:19] As long as it's not.
[01:43:21] Getting in my way.
[01:43:23] In a way that's so difficult.
[01:43:25] To then move.
[01:43:26] As long as I can just click the X.
[01:43:28] And get out of the advert.
[01:43:29] Don't care.
[01:43:30] It's fine.
[01:43:31] Whatever.
[01:43:32] Yeah.
[01:43:33] Yeah.
[01:43:35] Well.
[01:43:38] As we close up this episode.
[01:43:39] As I am.
[01:43:40] Want to do.
[01:43:41] On these year end things.
[01:43:43] I do want to.
[01:43:44] Want to leave.
[01:43:44] With a.
[01:43:45] With a final comment.
[01:43:47] And.
[01:43:48] Uh.
[01:43:49] You know.
[01:43:49] First.
[01:43:50] Jez.
[01:43:50] I want to thank you.
[01:43:51] For.
[01:43:52] Joining me on this journey.
[01:43:54] And continuing to do so.
[01:43:55] And.
[01:43:56] And taking a chance.
[01:43:57] On this little show.
[01:43:58] Because.
[01:43:59] I mean.
[01:44:00] Xbox 2.
[01:44:02] Is a fucking enormous show.
[01:44:03] You're one of.
[01:44:04] It's one of the top.
[01:44:05] Gaming.
[01:44:06] Podcast streams.
[01:44:07] Whatever you guys call it.
[01:44:08] It's one of the top ones.
[01:44:09] Like in the world.
[01:44:10] And so.
[01:44:11] To come here.
[01:44:12] To this little.
[01:44:14] Drinky dink operation.
[01:44:15] And hang out with me.
[01:44:16] Uh.
[01:44:17] And talk world of warcraft.
[01:44:18] Uh.
[01:44:19] You know.
[01:44:19] I can't say enough.
[01:44:20] How much I appreciate it.
[01:44:21] I've really enjoyed.
[01:44:22] Uh.
[01:44:23] Having you here.
[01:44:24] And.
[01:44:24] Uh.
[01:44:25] Getting your perspective on things.
[01:44:26] And you're just a rad dude.
[01:44:27] So it's just.
[01:44:28] Fun to chat with you.
[01:44:29] Uh.
[01:44:30] About something we love.
[01:44:31] So first.
[01:44:31] I just.
[01:44:31] I just want to say thank you.
[01:44:33] To you.
[01:44:33] Uh.
[01:44:34] For.
[01:44:35] Coming on here.
[01:44:36] And.
[01:44:36] Hanging out with me.
[01:44:37] I appreciate that man.
[01:44:38] I mean.
[01:44:39] You're a lot more organized.
[01:44:40] Than we are on.
[01:44:41] The Xbox show.
[01:44:42] We were just lucky with.
[01:44:44] Xbox 2.
[01:44:45] Because.
[01:44:45] We came in early.
[01:44:47] When Xbox was moving.
[01:44:49] Over to the internet.
[01:44:50] More and more and more.
[01:44:51] And I think we were one of the first.
[01:44:53] Sort of non.
[01:44:54] IGN.
[01:44:55] Xbox podcast.
[01:44:57] Really big one.
[01:44:58] So.
[01:45:00] Yeah.
[01:45:00] I.
[01:45:01] Really like doing the show with you.
[01:45:03] And.
[01:45:03] You make it very easy.
[01:45:04] And fun to do.
[01:45:06] So.
[01:45:06] Well thank you sir.
[01:45:08] Good.
[01:45:09] Good.
[01:45:09] Well.
[01:45:10] Most welcome.
[01:45:11] And.
[01:45:12] Looking forward to next year.
[01:45:13] Because it's going to be.
[01:45:14] Another.
[01:45:14] Fucking banger.
[01:45:16] Um.
[01:45:20] But finally.
[01:45:21] Uh.
[01:45:21] On this.
[01:45:22] Finally on this final comment.
[01:45:24] Uh.
[01:45:25] I used to do.
[01:45:26] On this show.
[01:45:27] There used to be a segment.
[01:45:29] And I didn't really have anything else.
[01:45:31] Better to call it.
[01:45:31] So I just called it.
[01:45:32] Under the helm.
[01:45:33] Which was sort of like.
[01:45:35] My opportunity to talk about.
[01:45:37] Real life.
[01:45:38] Real world.
[01:45:39] Stuff.
[01:45:39] And I talked about.
[01:45:40] You know.
[01:45:41] Like the.
[01:45:41] The car accident.
[01:45:43] The.
[01:45:43] The vehicle accident.
[01:45:45] That I was in.
[01:45:46] God.
[01:45:47] Twelve years ago now.
[01:45:49] That.
[01:45:49] You know.
[01:45:50] Irreparably fucked up my spine.
[01:45:52] You know.
[01:45:53] Problems that.
[01:45:54] I still have today.
[01:45:55] And continue to degrade.
[01:45:56] And.
[01:45:57] You know.
[01:45:58] And talking about that.
[01:45:59] And those sorts of challenges.
[01:46:00] And I don't.
[01:46:01] I don't really.
[01:46:02] You know.
[01:46:02] Just as an example.
[01:46:03] I don't really do.
[01:46:05] That segment.
[01:46:06] Or anything like that.
[01:46:08] Anymore.
[01:46:08] And I haven't in a long time.
[01:46:10] Anyway.
[01:46:11] Even though this show.
[01:46:12] Has served as.
[01:46:13] As part diary.
[01:46:15] As I mentioned before.
[01:46:16] For myself.
[01:46:17] But.
[01:46:19] I guess.
[01:46:20] To sort of bring that.
[01:46:22] Feeling.
[01:46:23] And that.
[01:46:23] That idea.
[01:46:24] Back.
[01:46:25] Just as a sort of.
[01:46:26] Check in with your old.
[01:46:27] Host here.
[01:46:31] Being honest with all of you.
[01:46:33] I have never.
[01:46:34] I have never been more.
[01:47:02] Be better for everyone.
[01:47:04] And that.
[01:47:04] Yeah.
[01:47:05] There will be challenges.
[01:47:05] Along the way.
[01:47:06] But we would continue to progress.
[01:47:08] As a.
[01:47:09] As a society.
[01:47:10] As a species.
[01:47:11] And.
[01:47:12] And I truly.
[01:47:13] Am worried.
[01:47:14] For the first time.
[01:47:15] In a way.
[01:47:15] That I've never been.
[01:47:16] Man.
[01:47:17] Um.
[01:47:18] You know.
[01:47:19] Mike Pondsmith.
[01:47:20] Who is the creator of Cyberpunk.
[01:47:22] Uh.
[01:47:23] Is famous for saying that.
[01:47:24] You know.
[01:47:24] Cyberpunk was a warning.
[01:47:26] Not an aspiration.
[01:47:27] And I truly feel like.
[01:47:29] Unfortunately.
[01:47:30] We are headed down a road.
[01:47:31] That leads to.
[01:47:33] Uh.
[01:47:34] Some very unfortunate ends.
[01:47:37] And.
[01:47:38] I.
[01:47:39] I.
[01:47:40] I.
[01:47:42] I don't know.
[01:47:43] What the solution is.
[01:47:45] I don't know what to do.
[01:47:47] Other than what I can do.
[01:47:49] Locally for myself.
[01:47:51] And what I would encourage.
[01:47:52] For all of you.
[01:47:54] Um.
[01:47:55] To find something each day.
[01:47:56] That you can do.
[01:47:57] To make things better.
[01:47:58] For yourself.
[01:47:59] For your community.
[01:48:00] For your family.
[01:48:01] For your friends.
[01:48:02] Um.
[01:48:03] To start small.
[01:48:04] Because I think that.
[01:48:05] That's ultimately how.
[01:48:06] We can write.
[01:48:08] A ship.
[01:48:08] That I.
[01:48:09] I think is careening.
[01:48:11] Uh.
[01:48:11] In the wrong direction.
[01:48:13] Um.
[01:48:14] Back here.
[01:48:15] Uh.
[01:48:15] World of Warcraft.
[01:48:16] You know.
[01:48:17] Last year.
[01:48:17] I was.
[01:48:17] I was very grateful to see.
[01:48:19] The resurgence of World of Warcraft.
[01:48:21] And I still am.
[01:48:22] The renaissance continues.
[01:48:24] And let me tell you.
[01:48:25] What we are experiencing.
[01:48:27] With World of Warcraft right now.
[01:48:28] Is a.
[01:48:28] Very rare.
[01:48:30] And awesome thing.
[01:48:33] And as somebody who's lived as long as I've lived.
[01:48:35] I'm telling you.
[01:48:37] Really have to enjoy these moments.
[01:48:39] Because they do not come along very often.
[01:48:42] So.
[01:48:42] Truly.
[01:48:43] Revel in each of these days.
[01:48:44] Enjoy the resurgence of this game.
[01:48:46] It's gonna have it's ebbs and flows.
[01:48:48] Because.
[01:48:49] Somewhere along the line.
[01:48:50] They're gonna fuck up again.
[01:48:51] It just.
[01:48:51] It's gonna go on a long enough timeline.
[01:48:53] It's just bound to happen.
[01:48:55] And so.
[01:48:55] You know.
[01:48:55] When we're riding the high like this.
[01:48:57] You really.
[01:48:57] Really gotta enjoy it.
[01:48:59] Um.
[01:49:00] Looking into next year.
[01:49:01] Right.
[01:49:01] Unshackled Fury is gonna be 10.
[01:49:03] We're turning 10 on this show.
[01:49:05] 10 freaking years of this dumb little show.
[01:49:07] So.
[01:49:08] I'm excited about that.
[01:49:10] Uh.
[01:49:11] And I'm hoping that we can get something good.
[01:49:13] Or fun.
[01:49:14] Or big.
[01:49:14] Uh.
[01:49:15] For you folks.
[01:49:15] I know I'm gonna be hammering on Blizzard.
[01:49:18] To help me out.
[01:49:19] Uh.
[01:49:19] And get me a good guest.
[01:49:21] Uh.
[01:49:21] For all of that.
[01:49:22] But.
[01:49:23] You know.
[01:49:23] Amidst.
[01:49:24] All of this.
[01:49:26] I really am appreciative.
[01:49:27] And I really do appreciate.
[01:49:29] Every single one of you that listens to this.
[01:49:31] Uh.
[01:49:31] For giving me some of your.
[01:49:33] Very precious and valuable time.
[01:49:36] Because there's a million things.
[01:49:38] That you could be listening to.
[01:49:39] More than.
[01:49:40] Uh.
[01:49:41] More than.
[01:49:41] No.
[01:49:41] More than my ranting.
[01:49:43] Uh.
[01:49:43] There's so many options now.
[01:49:45] So many streams.
[01:49:46] So many shows.
[01:49:47] So much music.
[01:49:47] We have access to so much now.
[01:49:50] Um.
[01:49:51] And for you to spend any amount of time.
[01:49:54] To listen to this.
[01:49:57] I appreciate it.
[01:49:58] So much.
[01:49:59] And.
[01:50:00] You know.
[01:50:00] All the great feedback that we get.
[01:50:02] The community.
[01:50:02] Albeit small.
