[00:00:21] Welcome to your uncensored home for World of Warcraft news and opinions. This is Unshackled Fury.

[00:01:01] We've taken the fight to the enemy and beaten back the shadows as the light returns once again.

[00:01:09] So welcome back for Episode 152, your uncensored home for World of Warcraft news and opinions. Unshackled Fury.

[00:01:18] I'm your host Berzerker and with me once again is the one man demon party known as Mr. Jez Corden.

[00:01:26] Welcome back again, good sir.

[00:01:28] Hello, hello, hello, hello. We are back again and hopefully with fixed audio this week although I don't know if people will tell.

[00:01:38] We had audio shows last week and if anyone listens to my other Xbox podcasts they'll be very familiar with my audio shows.

[00:01:48] Listen, I said it up front. I said you know there was a lot live-ish show so if there were some hiccups or fuck ups or whatever that's just how it goes.

[00:01:55] So I preemptively got you and out.

[00:02:00] But your elite editing skills seems to have moved over the worst of it.

[00:02:06] I've fucked up enough that I try to learn how to cover up my own mistakes.

[00:02:13] The true talent of any podcast. It's not the content, it's the editing skills.

[00:02:17] I mean that's really where I'm from.

[00:02:20] But we're back once again to make some more cinema as we've come to say and I don't know about you, I'm pretty sure.

[00:02:30] We've talked about this a bit in the last couple of weeks but I enjoyed Dragonflight but I didn't enjoy Dragonflight like I'm enjoying this.

[00:02:40] Like the war within, I'm feeling something like you know I enjoy this game.

[00:02:46] Look at me wrong. I love it.

[00:02:48] But I really feel like I have fallen in love with Warcraft again in a way that I haven't in a long time and it's hard to put my finger on but it's like I feel that juice that grew that whatever that is in my brain where I'm like every free moment

[00:03:03] I'm thinking about logging in and playing and questing and doing my shit and I've already quested way more than I did in Dragon.

[00:03:13] Like something in the water man.

[00:03:17] It's weird like we haven't really talked about this but I feel exactly the same way.

[00:03:21] I've been playing this game for 20 years and I haven't felt this way about it since probably vanilla and the Burning Crusade.

[00:03:27] Even Wrath had like these, the first tier in Wrath was a complete mess with you know the Max was way under tuned and there was a huge content drought and then like Trollic Crusader was absolutely the pinnacle of mid.

[00:03:45] So like a lot of people have a lot of nostalgia for Wrath but Wrath was honestly for me where the game started to be like oh they've started messing up a bit here.

[00:03:54] But this has just been fantastic.

[00:03:58] Even the stuff that I was, because I'm writing my review right now for Windows Central, even the stuff I was ready to complain about and we're going to discuss this a bit more later.

[00:04:07] But even the stuff I was ready to complain about, they announced this week that some of the stuff is already being fixed.

[00:04:13] Like some of the hero talents like we're missing animations or flavour, they've gone beyond to start patching some of that stuff.

[00:04:21] So yeah I'm incredibly excited about the world.

[00:04:24] I've even downloaded Warcraft Rumble and so like when I'm not able to play at least I can play with my little Warcraft Rumble figurines instead.

[00:04:34] Wow.

[00:04:35] I got it bad, man.

[00:04:36] I got it bad.

[00:04:37] That's the best way to get it.

[00:04:39] I mean you know this is the time and downloads for this final program seem to indicate.

[00:04:48] And welcome aboard.

[00:04:49] If you're new to the show, welcome.

[00:04:52] Thanks for downloading.

[00:04:54] Hope you subscribe and stick around and tell your friends and whatever else because the show does exist outside of Launch Windows just so you know.

[00:05:01] We do manage to grind it out the rest of the year when there's other stuff going on.

[00:05:08] But to all the new folks welcome glad to have you and thanks for playing.

[00:05:14] Yes we have, oh my god.

[00:05:17] We have a lot to talk about.

[00:05:18] Our goal today because we talked about this last time.

[00:05:22] Our goal today is to talk at the very least about the campaign to go through the campaign zone by zone a little bit.

[00:05:29] This will not be some exhaustive deep dive everything about everything sort of episodes.

[00:05:36] If you're looking for that, you know, go to Live Laugh Floor one of the other folks that does like deep dives that kind of thing.

[00:05:44] But we are going to try to go through it and there are spoilers everywhere.

[00:05:49] This is a whole spoilery episode so if you haven't played it, you haven't played through it, you haven't played all the way through it.

[00:05:54] You haven't gone through the whole campaign, you haven't gone through this stuff this past week and you want to save it then hold on to this episode until you've done all that because we're going to go through it all including like the big huge major stuff including super including the thing that I alluded to last time that

[00:06:13] all this stuff today. So if you're looking to stay away from spoilers, this is your final warning.

[00:06:23] In that vein have a metal album of the week this week that Jez I said before we started recording.

[00:06:33] I picked this one right for you based on the thing I just alluded to which won't be alluded to for very long because we're going to talk about it.

[00:06:41] But it's also very much in line with our community, our love of all things fantasy and this and that.

[00:06:51] So this week's album from 2019 Winter Saga by Windrose and folks don't know who Windrose is.

[00:07:02] They are an Italian power metal band, but a lot of their work is about dwarves and is very inspired by Tolkien's work.

[00:07:16] And if you look at the albums and the song names and this and that, you might recognize them including on this album the one super famous song I think they got which is Diggy Diggy Hole which has its roots from Yogg's cast

[00:07:31] which also has this world of Warcraft connection and the song was sung like one verse by them and then these folks picked up the cover that somebody else did of a whole song and then they put it on this album

[00:07:44] and it is a phenomenal listen to. It's not very long, it's only like 50 minutes less than an hour.

[00:07:49] But all the way through it's so fucking good, it fits right in the vibe of like World of Warcraft and everything else and Jez they are touring throughout Germany all next month.

[00:08:04] God damn. It's weird. I don't remember hearing about the name of the band but I do remember the name of the song Diggy Diggy Hole for some reason.

[00:08:14] I'm going to blow your mind right now. Okay.

[00:08:17] Because you just mentioned Yogg's cast. Yes.

[00:08:19] I was in Yiel Goonsquad the very first iteration of Yogg's on the venture co 20 years ago. Wow.

[00:08:28] I was in that guild. No shit. Just what I do and all those guys.

[00:08:32] It was a strange time. Whole circle baby.

[00:08:36] Yeah, kind of. I highly doubt they remember me but I was very briefly in their guild for during the Mount Higelt here.

[00:08:46] They've been around a long time. Oh jeez. But then my PC blew up.

[00:08:51] They used to just they used to upload the raids on on YouTube and Ponydude used to just do commentary over it.

[00:09:01] And the other guy I think who's been cancelled now rank 14 warrior.

[00:09:06] All those guys man. The venture co was a legendary venture co Europe was a legendary server for drama.

[00:09:16] Absolutely legend. So many very bad stories.

[00:09:23] But yeah it was a fun time man. But then my PC blew up so I couldn't stick around sadly but yeah that's it is full circle.

[00:09:32] Look at that. Well if if you haven't listened to the album I highly recommend it because I just listened to it again while I was working on notes for the show and this and that

[00:09:42] and it is it is a solid ass listen but based on everything I've seen because I've never seen them live but based on what I've seen their live show looks to be stupendous.

[00:09:53] So if I lived in Germany I would try to find tickets to one of like the five or six shows they're doing across the country and you know I know it takes a little while to get places

[00:10:04] but y'all has better trains and what we got at least better public transportation I think so maybe it's a little easier to get to.

[00:10:11] I don't know I've never been there. I have to trust you. You tell me how close is walking. You know that's the big one.

[00:10:22] Andy how close is walking. How close is walking. It's by the sea. No one knew.

[00:10:30] No one knew. OK I know that's the big one but there's one over the place. This one's all over the place. So look at this we're getting a lot of knowing me I mean I've assist live assist.

[00:10:42] Look at that. See. Bring it to you. There you go. If if you haven't heard of Windrose they are well you know one of the all time great power metal bands.

[00:10:57] They're relatively new ish compared to you know some of the older greats like Manowar and those sorts of things but stage presence the songs just the vibe of the whole thing it very much fits with Warcraft and it very much fits with where we're going to go today especially the second zone that we're going to

[00:11:16] do and the very important story that was told there so before we get to that is have a very important rage segment to get to today. It won't take long but it is an important piece that I got to get off my mind.

[00:11:33] Let's get into it.

[00:11:40] If you know anything about me.

[00:11:46] You know that I have a deep.

[00:11:50] Unbiting irrational deep and abiding irrational.

[00:11:54] I don't know man crush on very in RIN.

[00:11:59] I don't know what it is.

[00:12:00] I could I could take a few wild guesses.

[00:12:03] That was my boy forever forever.

[00:12:05] You know forever more and when I don't know for brothers or he's my son or like what's going on but we're all we're all sons of the same banner of the alliance and storm wind and yeah that's how I roll and that's how it'll always be and I don't know.

[00:12:21] There's just something wrong with me.

[00:12:24] I think back Legion Legion was happening and they announced that we're going to do we're going to do these artifact weapons and I was like well.

[00:12:34] I know you're going to kill my boy.

[00:12:38] I don't like it.

[00:12:39] I still don't like it but I know you're going to do it and you know listen if he's going out in a cloud of smoke in a puff of smoke.

[00:12:47] Well then you know something's got to be left behind.

[00:12:51] The shallow main his his fine weaponry should be available to somebody and I'm like well he's the warrior king and clearly it's got to be the warriors.

[00:13:02] Yes war swords of the Valarjar what the fuck is that no no no no no where where is where a shallow man.

[00:13:09] Well we have better plans for shallow man we may have better plans for shallow man.

[00:13:12] I can't transmog shallow man.

[00:13:14] I got fucking you know thralls gimmick over here and I got Garrosh's gimmick over here and I got this staff over here we got all these other you know weapons of legend rolling around.

[00:13:27] Why not shallow man.

[00:13:27] No we can't do shallow man.

[00:13:30] All this time has passed.

[00:13:32] Yes one day I open up social media which was a mistake anyway but.

[00:13:40] I always a mistake.

[00:13:41] Always a mistake.

[00:13:43] I can't believe that in Diablo four they are now offering for the tidy sum of twenty eight dollars twenty eight dollars twenty eight dollars twenty eight US American dollars.

[00:14:00] I could have shallow man and variance armor as a barbarian in Diablo four but I can't have it in World of Warcraft.

[00:14:12] I mean.

[00:14:14] Dude and twins got it.

[00:14:17] I know I know I know I know but you know listen what's that what's that hammer the thralls always swinging around.

[00:14:27] You know do hammer.

[00:14:29] He hasn't got it anymore.

[00:14:33] He's holding it in this 20th anniversary art I'm looking at who's got it now.

[00:14:37] No he gave it to the German class hall didn't they.

[00:14:41] I don't know maybe I'm wrong maybe does that again.

[00:14:45] Yeah maybe but yeah I did see those transmog sets I did in Diablo the savannah set I had to cop that I copped that set and also the Zalatath set I had to cop that as well.

[00:15:00] Yeah.

[00:15:01] Yeah but but here's the thing man.

[00:15:04] It doesn't cost twenty eight dollars if you're a Microsoft Edge user because we've Microsoft reward points which you get.

[00:15:13] And this is not an ad it's a it's a pro tip use Microsoft Edge and Bing which I do because I'm crazy you get currency for Diablo which means you can buy shallow man for free.

[00:15:28] If you are if you hide yourself in Firefox forever you I don't I don't love it that much.

[00:15:36] I love it but I don't love it that much.

[00:15:40] I just I just I thought it was absolutely just hysterical that the greatest thing for like any warrior to have a world of Warcraft you put it in another goddamn game and it's like when they did Heroes of the Storm.

[00:15:57] And they put all that great stuff in there is like oh man they got a portal out of the stuff for the Warcraft and almost none of that happened.

[00:16:03] And then they put it Diablo for him like you just you just teasing me just teasing me and I don't like it I've been very faithful to you here I am all these years later and no I gotta pay twenty eight bucks and go get it in another game.

[00:16:17] Dude it's even worse like I've got I've got Arthur's horse and his sword in Diablo four as well.

[00:16:25] I can't even right.

[00:16:27] It's not even a usable sword it's just a trophy.

[00:16:30] It's just sitting there on my horse's back.

[00:16:32] You know it's just like oh yeah it's just just Frostmourne no big deal just the wrong.

[00:16:39] Just chilling.

[00:16:40] And he's held me as well which so Vannas broke.

[00:16:44] The helm of domination reforged on Sanctuary.

[00:16:48] Yeah Sanctuary yeah.

[00:16:49] Unbelievable you know somewhere in the Blizzard verse I guess it's good enough that it exists and it's available somewhere so if I really wanted to jump back into Diablo four I guess.

[00:16:59] Yeah well if they do class halls again maybe maybe warriors will end up with shot.

[00:17:05] Well now it's a priest weapon apparently.

[00:17:08] Yeah yeah possibly.

[00:17:10] I don't know Varian's been quite warrior coded this story arc so far.

[00:17:18] He even did the variant.

[00:17:20] Anduin sorry.

[00:17:22] Yeah he's been a bit variant coded.

[00:17:24] He did the whole diving two handed slash off of that which is very very you know referenced to Varian diving during Legion.

[00:17:37] Correct.

[00:17:38] Very very very cool.

[00:17:40] I was like I see what you're doing there he's being a warrior because he can't use the light.

[00:17:44] Surely if he's a warrior that use the light doesn't it make him more of a ret paladin kind of.

[00:17:49] I made this argument way back when when Battle for Azeroth came out and I'm like he's a paladin like that's a paladin.

[00:17:56] He's fighting with a two handed weapon and he's blowing up with the light and like getting people up.

[00:18:03] That's a fucking pallet yeah wearing badass plate that's a paladin and then you know a brosy abbey the long bereft of any morals.

[00:18:13] Alex a fraud be a frauds a abbey came out and was like no no no he's a priest.

[00:18:17] He's just like priest plus or fucking whatever they called it.

[00:18:25] Anyway there you go if you really want it double four twenty eight bucks it can be yours but for me.

[00:18:30] I guess I'm just gonna stick with the badass Hall of Fall plate set and swords out of there.

[00:18:39] So like I said at the top we're gonna talk about this campaign this awesome campaign the Superfund campaign and no more delays.

[00:18:46] Just get it coming in for this campaign.

[00:18:59] We knew we were going to start with the destruction of Dalaran that was a given we knew it was going to happen.

[00:19:05] It was pretty much everywhere.

[00:19:07] If you saw anything about the PTR other big pieces of spires and shit on the ground.

[00:19:14] Two questions that we had coming out of that one was it like complete and utter and total destruction.

[00:19:21] Yes it absolutely was they knew that fucking place I mean that explosion in that cinematic that they had was no doubt.

[00:19:28] Second was the fate.

[00:19:30] Kat Gar because we kind of felt like something happened and here we were at the end of sort of the lead up questing.

[00:19:39] Wouldn't we there in Dalaran and he goes into fight Zalatath and he hits her with the you know biggest blast in the history of wizard blasts and she's kind of laughed at him

[00:19:49] and started blowing up her big big black bubble and you can see him started to disintegrate a little bit and then boom that whole fucking place just went up like unbelievable explosion.

[00:20:01] I mean shards and rubble and there was no doubt but I don't buy you jazz I am of the belief nobody no death and I didn't see a body.

[00:20:15] So I wasn't convinced that he was dead from the get so we go down down somewhere in this as Algar don't know what the fuck this place is.

[00:20:34] And then we start fighting the rubians and we're meeting all the major players with our folks they're all Jaina and when they're all there.

[00:20:42] We're finding survivors some people died like Tiffany Cartier the the Jewelcrafting supplier and Dalaran fuck that person I'm glad they're dead because the stuff that they sold was way too expensive and I can never afford it back when so she can get bent.

[00:21:00] But we end up fighting the rubians and figuring out what we're doing there and then all of a sudden proof.

[00:21:07] We got we got some storm riders coming out of nowhere we meet Belgrim and we end up flying ourselves over to Dornegaal first time flying into Dornegaal jazz I was.

[00:21:21] I was we talked about this already a little bit before I was pretty impressed and still am with not just its visual presentation but how Dornegaal as a city is laid out and kind of all the stuff that we have in there both seen and sort of unseen.

[00:21:38] I've been really impressed with this place is a city so far.

[00:21:43] It's I'm I got mixed feelings about it.

[00:21:46] It's good you know don't get me wrong but the sense of wonder that I had the first time I went to Dalaran in Brack and Dalaran with all its little secrets and sewer and all that stuff especially after the update as well like when I did a bunch of new stuff to in the class walls.

[00:22:07] I still think Dalaran is the best city they've ever made a while but Dornegaal is definitely up there.

[00:22:15] It's it's more interesting than Valdrakhan I think and I suppose part of that is you know it's a little bit more familiar a little bit more Azerothian.

[00:22:26] It's a little bit more of an Azerothian.

[00:22:28] Yeah yeah that's what I mean.

[00:22:31] It makes sense that you know the very you know it's a Titan city isn't it?

[00:22:36] It's very orderly.

[00:22:38] It's very square and it's very very efficient and you know where is like Valdrakhan is a little bit more you know all over the place.

[00:22:46] It's designed more for dragons and flying and stuff like that I suppose with these huge spires which you can either fly up to and then you run a vigor and it's like oh yeah there's a teleporter and you teleport it.

[00:22:58] But yeah I've enjoyed Dornegaal a lot.

[00:23:01] It's a cool city.

[00:23:05] But I have to say though I kind of think if there was ever an expansion where they could put auction houses in multiple cities it probably would have been this one.

[00:23:14] Like what if like what if I want to you know the little village in the ringing deeps because they've now got a like on the map there's like a castle icon which tells you where the major settlement is in that area.

[00:23:27] And I was just sitting there thinking like I'd rather set my hearthstone in the ringing deeps and have an auction house there instead.

[00:23:34] And of course I don't have the dinosaur mount with the auction house on it.

[00:23:37] If I did then I would.

[00:23:39] But I feel like I know Blizzard's logic is that they want people they want the cities to feel busy and bustling and all that kind of stuff which is fine but I feel like this new they've gone for a more compact world this time round compared to dragonflight.

[00:24:00] So I think if there ever was an expansion where all three of the seas could feel quite busy it probably would have been this one.

[00:24:09] And then maybe you could have had unique features in each city to encourage people to travel around a little bit.

[00:24:15] But yeah I don't know Dornegaal is great so it's alright it's fine.

[00:24:20] It's no Dalaran but it's better than Oribos that's what we're at.

[00:24:25] Oh yeah Oribos what's that.

[00:24:28] Nobody remembers nobody knows.

[00:24:31] This is some weird fever dream I think it must have been sweep that shit under the rug.

[00:24:37] So yeah so we end up in Dornegaal and you know we have a little time to collect ourselves and we're outsiders.

[00:24:44] That's how we're kind of referred to after this whole thing as we're the outsiders coming in we're bringing our war to their shores.

[00:24:50] The Europeans are fighting all this chaos is going on we have no time to mourn Kedgar potentially.

[00:24:56] But the big sort of piece to this kind of early questing is the core way.

[00:25:01] The core way is the big shoot right that goes down into the ground takes us down to the ringing deeps which opens up right into the rest of the places that we got to go.

[00:25:09] And so a lot of this early questing is meeting the folks that we need to meet there opening up that core way.

[00:25:17] We meet up with Dagran we meet up with speaker Brinth and we learn about these these memory crystals that the memory gems that the earth and have and finding out about you know their inability to be woken in.

[00:25:35] There's all kinds of like little threads right all these little threads are starting here but the main thing is fighting back the Neurovians and getting access down into the core way and we're introduced to Delves.

[00:25:47] I've been enjoying the Delves. I like being able to do the Delves.

[00:25:51] As this coming week Delves open up past level three and I'm ready for that challenge. I'm excited for that challenge.

[00:25:59] I think you said that your eye level was 580 something.

[00:26:04] Did you say 589 now I think.

[00:26:09] You'll be able to blast through all 1112 levels like it's no shit. I think I'm it's 575 or something like that.

[00:26:19] I know I've done man. I've got I've got two characters over 580 now. Absolutely. I had a week off work and just completely know life did.

[00:26:30] Good man nonstop.

[00:26:32] But yeah but yeah I'm really looking forward to the new Delves to see how hard it can actually get.

[00:26:37] Yeah that's going to be great.

[00:26:41] Among the rest of the folks we meet we learn about these this council right this council that's in Dornegaal and they're not getting along and there's people missing and learn about the different types of earthen and we're getting you know that introduction into their society this group that we've never seen and

[00:26:59] for us folks that had early access right we did not have access to the earthen you could basically complete you know most of actually nobody did because you couldn't complete the whole campaign until last week.

[00:27:13] Right yeah I made an earthen but I didn't do anything with them.

[00:27:18] I'm mad and I just I was like I got too much stuff to do on my man.

[00:27:26] It's a nice problem to have.

[00:27:28] We blew up a metery that was fun we had to go there was there was like a burrow happening with a spot where the Rubians were coming up on the Isle of Dorne and so we had to blow up this whole metery and there was a sacrifice and we lost Belgrom who's a character I was really starting to enjoy so you know never get too close to us.

[00:27:50] But shut them down opened up the core way and that's kind of where that first zone sort of ends in terms of the main questing is where we get there help fight back some of the Rubians were helping to reconstruct this council.

[00:28:06] I was starting to build all our rep and do those sorts of things but overall I really liked Isle of Dorne I still like Isle of Dorne it's it's fun to fly around.

[00:28:17] There's lots of other little quests there's one in particular I want to talk about later but I thought it was a really gentle opening zone easy to get to easy to fly around easy to find stuff.

[00:28:32] Lots of fun stuff to do there's still good stuff to do.

[00:28:36] I thought it was a nice solid introduction as a zone.

[00:28:41] How about you?

[00:28:42] Yeah I thought it was overall again really good I think but like you just mentioned like I was just really starting to like Belgrom and you know and it reminded me like one of my criticisms of this zone is the breakneck pacing of it.

[00:28:57] We go from like these we meet the two of the main factions the Oathbound and the the un-Oathbound.

[00:29:06] The Unbound.

[00:29:08] Right so the Oathbound are the ones who follow their edicts of the Titans very almost with religious dedication and then the Unbound are ones who like look the Titans are gone they've been gone for hundreds of years they've abandoned us let's just try and make our own way in the world.

[00:29:23] And that sort of living in separate you know sort of situations where the Unbound sort of live in little settlements around the island and then you know the old swan or whatever they call they stay in Donegal.

[00:29:36] And when we arrived they're talking about how like they've been separated for hundreds of years millennia even maybe and then like over the course of a few quests Bailgrim's entire perspective changes just because we've shown up.

[00:29:51] I think like the story of Bailgrim having a change of heart or even like the Unbound and the Oathswain coming together and the machine speakers working out their stuff.

[00:30:03] I kind of feel like that probably should have taken place over the course of the entire expansion.

[00:30:08] It feels like they're like very they were like oh okay like a couple of conversations later was undone hundreds of years of stony relationships.

[00:30:24] And then they're like oh yeah I did feel like the pacing was a bit off on that zone and you know it's we'll allow it because it's it's warcraft at the end of the day.

[00:30:36] I don't expect I don't expect Hollywood Hollywood pacing delivery from warcraft but it could have been a little bit better but I suppose like that the idea is they're setting up bigger story beats like Ron.

[00:30:50] Yeah and since we've you know buried this one long enough.

[00:30:59] Ah good idea there.

[00:31:02] Bringing deeps second zone that we go through and the transition from sort of the first part of this Isle of Dorn now down to the bringing deeps transition to this was just pretty normal.

[00:31:17] From one quest to another.

[00:31:21] Put a pin in that for later as we send down into the the bringing deeps and were introduced to a character who I honestly enjoyed probably more than I should have which was the high speaker as we come to find out down here in the depths there's this awakening machine.

[00:31:42] This is a big sort of point around this plot is there's this awakening machine that brings the earth and out and there's something wrong with it we don't know what's going on.

[00:31:54] There's something wrong with it but machine speakers are working on it they're trying to figure it out and they're looking at the high speaker going hey what's going on and he's just this pompous piece of shit and they comes rolling by on his like chariot thrown or whatever the hell that was basically tells us.

[00:32:12] Don't worry about it.

[00:32:16] And I love that guy right away too bad he doesn't stick around too much but the main city there you mentioned it one in every zone right with a little castle is good gunder gas which I don't know if I'm saying that right that's what I'm saying and we start to get into now this machine speaker culture.

[00:32:38] And we're finding out about the cobalt that are down there and the fucking candles that they got down their heads still in there is still dealing with it goes back to like day one warcraft stuff and maybe that's why this is bringing such nostalgia because now we have to go after the fucking candle king himself.

[00:32:53] Like it's just we're bringing we're bringing some like real old stuff back into this but we have to go through the zone essentially and figure out with the machine speakers what all these various things are that are going wrong on their zone not just what's happening with the awakening machine but they have a mining operation that has ceased.

[00:33:16] You know there are fog beasts to be found everywhere.

[00:33:23] And then come to find out the series of questing here is that the high speaker.

[00:33:32] Well I love so much.

[00:33:34] Got a deal was out of town.

[00:33:36] Son of a dundun dundun.

[00:33:39] That memory jam the concept that we were introduced to early. Oh well shit found one down there in a cave in a water and it turns out that the high speaker has made essentially a trade with Zalateth and hey you get this awakening machine going and yeah we'll be your people.

[00:34:01] Jez would you have made that deal.

[00:34:03] Was that a good deal.

[00:34:06] I think it's a particularly good deal but you know the void as a way of whispering in people's ears doesn't it seemingly.

[00:34:17] But this son had some really cool plot threads especially if you go into what's it called now is it dark flame cleft.

[00:34:25] I can't remember the name of the dungeon but it's where you fight the candle king and it culminates in.

[00:34:33] The explanation for the whole phrase you know take candle the cobalt phrase and obviously at the end of that dungeon you fight what they're afraid of which they simply call the darkness which seems to be some kind of.

[00:34:53] Crazy void aberration which we don't even get to kill it like a scabes.

[00:34:58] Just like.

[00:35:00] It's like I think there's something more to that thing because it has like the the the mouths all over its face reminiscent of Yogg-Saron which was just the the beast of a thousand.

[00:35:16] What was the what did they call him now.

[00:35:18] I can't remember the thousand thousand teeth or something like that I can't remember what they call you to run but he's got face he's got teeth all over his face and it did it does have that sort of crafty and energy but then.

[00:35:34] Dude I've got a question about this.

[00:35:36] I've got a question about this because obviously in the other dungeon and the other major plot thread here is the scar din which are void corrupted earthen and void corrupted.

[00:35:50] Golems and stuff like that now.

[00:35:54] My Lord isn't I'm not a super duper expert at law like some of the other content creators out there.

[00:36:01] But didn't Yogg-Saron have to create a whole curse of flesh because he couldn't corrupt earthen because they were made of rock and he purposefully created the curse of flesh to turn them into things he could corrupt.

[00:36:19] We got yeah but now you've got Zalatath out here corrupting rock and stone and metal like it's no it's no big deal.

[00:36:27] That's just how powerful she is.

[00:36:29] Yeah so yeah ramp it up.

[00:36:32] So either Blizzard forgot its own law again or the Zalatath really is just that powerful.

[00:36:40] So I think for the for the forgive Blizzard the benefit of the doubt that it just means Zalatath really is that powerful.

[00:36:49] Just that powerful.

[00:36:51] I think this was my favorite zone overall I think and I think I'm going to be in the minority there but this was the zone that felt most like an actual cavern to me I think.

[00:37:07] Oh yeah.

[00:37:09] You know I'd like the underground waterfalls and you know all the sort of cave stuff in there.

[00:37:16] There's also a section where you've got these what do they call it now.

[00:37:23] These like slime molds hanging down from the ceiling that are like a bioluminescent.

[00:37:30] It's incredible and it really reminded me of when I was in Iceland I went through a lava tunnel which I'm glad I did.

[00:37:39] Because a few weeks later the volcano there erupted.

[00:37:44] I wouldn't have liked to have been in the lava tunnel at that moment.

[00:37:48] But it had this like luminescent bacteria in the the ceiling of the cave and it was just like they're like this is the it just it just gave me nostalgic feelings of being in a cave.

[00:38:02] You know I've known to frequent a couple of a few caves in my life but this is my favorite zone overall.

[00:38:09] Definitely love it.

[00:38:11] What's those kinds of real world experiences I think that lend credibility to what they're doing and I know that they try to bring in those real life elements whether it be the environment or animals or plants or something like that so that's a good vote of confidence for the zone which the way that they've.

[00:38:32] Kind of separated the areas you know it's kind of like you know blind corners sort of thing makes.

[00:38:39] The zone feel bigger than it probably is but the way that they've feared it the way that they've kind of separated some areas there's one quest we have to go like way the fuck down in one area and I had no idea that was even there and I'd been in that area a dozen times already but didn't know until this one quest it's just.

[00:38:56] Stuff like that.

[00:38:57] Well yeah they knocked it out of the park.

[00:39:01] I'm pretty sure everybody knows what my favorite zone is along with every other asshole but that's a good that's a good vote for this one.

[00:39:09] So let's get let's get to the to the meat of it here because in this zone one of the one of the things that I think I enjoyed most was watching the interplay between.

[00:39:24] Magni and Dagran.

[00:39:26] Oh yeah and Dagran being you know newcomer on the scene really as far as his I don't know fully fleshed out character here in the war with in and Magni who's going through some shit we've talked about this before you know following all the events of previous expansions he's been the speaker he seems to be losing faith he has a great conversation with Anduin early on back in the first part of the campaign when we're on the

[00:39:52] Isle of Doron and they're sitting in the in the in there and you know talking about Anduin's interest in the Arathi and what that might look like read for later and Magni you know is having a crisis.

[00:40:05] This is faith he's you know we got blasted by the one big wave but we don't know you know from Azeroth early on but we don't really know you know what he's doing and so his concern now becomes Dagran like keeping Dagran safe they're off doing shit keeping Dagran safe what are we going to do.

[00:40:22] And so the interplay between them grandfather grandson as somebody who no longer has any grandparents.

[00:40:32] I felt, I don't know joy in a way like watching that interplay of like yeah that's awesome watching you know these two characters have this interplay at that level of a relationship you know grandfather grandson teaching things just so green.

[00:40:52] I mean Dagran is so fucking green.

[00:40:56] But we get something.

[00:40:58] I'm sorry go on.

[00:40:59] Good.

[00:41:00] I was just gonna say I'm gonna admit something I cried manly tears at the end of that sequence, but it wasn't because of Dagran it was because of Moira.

[00:41:10] Because like there's that story arc with the bronze beards has been going on for 20 years.

[00:41:18] Where there's a quest in vanilla where you have to go and rescue Moira from the Dark Iron Dwarves.

[00:41:26] Right.

[00:41:27] Yeah you get there and it's like oh Moira is like I left of my own accord because my dad's an asshole basically.

[00:41:33] That's right.

[00:41:34] I murder her husband on Magne's orders as the back in the day when I was a scummy a lines paladin very briefly and and I heard they were overpowered man.

[00:41:51] Everyone is the forum was saying are there other power that can turn invincible and I was like hell yeah I'm gonna turn invincible and kill everyone.

[00:41:57] But anyway yeah.

[00:41:58] So like the see all that baggage sort of sort of manifests in Magne's whole storyline like he's lost his luster and he's not shining diamond anymore and the weight of the responsibilities or at least the weight of what he feels is a responsibility has been placed upon him.

[00:42:19] And he's just he's just ready to sort of quit you know and Azeroth basically lets him go.

[00:42:24] And then like it's almost like he just sort of has this revelation that he's been a really absent father you know.

[00:42:36] And I think I think that'll hit for a lot of people out there I think it certainly hit for me so you know Blizzard is like really stepped up its game when it comes to delivering emotional storytelling and so often Blizzard fumbles

[00:42:53] when it comes to these kind of plot devices as we know over the years but this is one example where they absolutely fucking nailed it.

[00:43:04] I was I was I was like cry manly tears not only because the story but I was just like they handled this so well and I was just kind of happy for the team so I felt that joy as well.

[00:43:14] It's just a great moment.

[00:43:16] Great moment.

[00:43:17] The sort of complex family dynamics.

[00:43:20] I mean hit the nail on the head with that especially with Moira is that additional piece of that and that whole.

[00:43:28] So that whole thing coming together now here at the end of the campaign in this particular zone where we have chased the high speaker now we know we know about the plot we know about what's going on chase the high speaker into the hall of awakening.

[00:43:45] And we're going to try to stop him.

[00:43:48] And you know of course Dalatath powered and the whole thing and he manages to get the I guess the black blood or whatever it is it starts creeping up into the machine and you can see all the earthen that are in their little cryo prisons or whatever they are and it's starting to take over all of them and he disappears just like

[00:44:08] like they're just like a ridicule on did like into one of these portals and they're like oh shit it's over and it's Magni and Dagon and Moira there and Magni feels like all his hope is lost.

[00:44:22] He's he's this is it he's failed his final failure he's failed as a father's failed as a grandfather's failed as a speaker he's failed all these things.

[00:44:30] And it's Dagran who you know puts his hand on his chest and reminds him you know that he has this power within in this Azeroth power within him which we saw a brief flash of earlier when we were requesting that this always got like a little something that can radiate out of him or whatever it is.

[00:44:49] And you see him have this moment of clarity where seems like he connects with Azeroth the world soul one more time and it's one of these it's time moments and you're like oh something.

[00:45:03] Oh shit here it comes and he sits down or kneels down and you see just this energy start to radiate out of him and it and it can it takes over the whole hall.

[00:45:13] It clears out all the corruption everybody's like oh look he did it he saved it and there he is fully turned to stone once again.

[00:45:24] And in that moment I'm like man what the fuck like here's this guy is this character.

[00:45:32] Originally this happened to him because he turned a diamond right because he was trying to communicate with spirits he was trying to save the planet he didn't know what was going on and that's what happened.

[00:45:41] Then he was reawoken then he was the speaker then he lost his faith realized he was a shitty family man you know he gave one final sacrifice and now there he is.

[00:45:51] He's a statue and Moira and Dagran they're sad and I'm sitting there and I'm starting to well up a little bit and I even I even texted Terran Gregory and I was like how dare you do this to me this is not right I'm too old to be crying over big dwarves and shit and lo and behold.

[00:46:10] Lights start shining through and there boom there's Magni fully transformed back into a real life war.

[00:46:21] And they fucking got me with that swerve and I had I did and there's no way I thought he was out I thought he was gone I thought that was it when you come in as an earthen you like I don't know pat him on the head say thanks and go off on your adventure.

[00:46:35] But they got me they got me with that one you know like you mentioned as we talked about the whole family dynamic to make those connections to seem like you're making amends and then to seem like that road was over and it wasn't.

[00:46:49] And I think of all the storylines that we've come across so far that's the one that has affected me the most for sure and cinematic steam stayed all the time fucking crushed it was amazing.

[00:47:04] What a way to end that.

[00:47:06] Perfect.

[00:47:09] What do you think of that scene.

[00:47:13] It was it was spectacular you know and the technology that they now have access to to because I remember I remember back in rough we had the first pre rendered in engine cutscene they're done and up until then like the only videos we'd really had like that were sort of machinima on YouTube or in the early days of YouTube.

[00:47:35] And then Lizard was like oh actually we could do this as well and they did the you know the whole wrath gate cinematic from from wrath you know and and that was just amazing you know and with the even though it was like you know the vanilla graphics it was still.

[00:47:49] The big budget music and the white.

[00:47:52] The right direction was there but the technology it's just never been there to do it in engine until recently and even though like this cutscene in particular was pre rendered because there was some special effects in there which they couldn't have delivered in engine.

[00:48:08] Just the fidelity of the facial motion capture they're able to do now and really expressive emotions.

[00:48:17] They just couldn't do that before if you go back and watch wrath gate now.

[00:48:21] The characters just stone stone faced no no expressions.

[00:48:26] There's no muscles in the product of its time.

[00:48:29] It's a product of its time.

[00:48:31] Exactly yeah but for now it's like this is like Disney Pixar level quality cartoon.

[00:48:36] It's still obviously stylized it's not for realistic but it's like we get we get into that level where people are constantly asking where's the Netflix show Blizzard.

[00:48:47] Where's the Netflix show Blizzard because this is the kind of quality they're pushing now it's spectacular man unbelievable hell of a way to end that zone and to continue to keep that relationship growing and repairing.

[00:49:00] I thought was great and keeps you know dagger in light because I think they have to suffer a loss like that that early.

[00:49:06] I might have fucked him up a little bit but I'm glad they didn't sweet keep it going.

[00:49:10] And from there we continue our questing adventures in the campaign to my favorite and I think most people's favorite zone so far.

[00:49:19] Call of Fall which is you know to me it's one of the most beautiful inventive things that they've ever done trying to again make us feel like we're not underground when we are very much underground.

[00:49:34] And we get introduced through and when who mentioned earlier wanted to see if we could meet these are off the and he's working with one of the earthen leaders gets down there.

[00:49:48] We meet Farron Aaron Lothar which eventually and when you know finds out her name and Lothar like I'm named after Lothar and how was that possible and we start to find out about this a rocky empire and this a rocky empire

[00:50:08] across the sea and if there was not an expansion in the future about another island or landmass on the back of Azeroth or some shit at this point I'm going to eat my fucking hat.

[00:50:20] Because they're dropping every hint possible that something is out there because the story that Farron tells and when essentially is that they were going across the sea she stowed away she wasn't even supposed to be there in the first place.

[00:50:37] And as their fleet got caught in this storm there was this sort of light that appeared and ended up where they are now.

[00:50:52] They have this giant crystal in the sky they call it Beladar this this star whatever they want it is.

[00:51:01] I feel like probably everybody else is going to say this too but this thing has to be a Nauru right.

[00:51:11] Yeah I've got you have to look at it like stand on your head when you're looking at it look at it upside down and then you realize what it is.

[00:51:23] It looks like Oshogun yeah it looks like the Oshogun in Outland or Draenor crashed Nauru spaceship which crashed Draenai spaceship which are powered by Nauru.

[00:51:42] So and what we know from Nauru are they sort of like stars they collapse in on themselves and become void void Nauru.

[00:51:55] They're very quite dangerous entities really and I don't know why we why we flirt with them so much.

[00:52:04] I think really what we should be doing we should be like going full ghostbuster on those things and trying to contain them.

[00:52:10] Then the blood elves are the right idea contain those things they ain't safe they are dangerous entities.

[00:52:19] But yeah I think it's it's but it's so strange because at the same time you're trying to think like Velen Velen would know about this.

[00:52:29] You would have to think Velen would know if a Nauru spaceship had previously crashed an Azeroth.

[00:52:37] Some part of me is wondering like are they trying to bait and switch us here.

[00:52:41] There was there was also a theory that it was the tip of tip of the sword but we've confirmed that's not the case.

[00:52:48] Right I think Blizzard pretty much said explicitly no it's not the sword.

[00:52:51] So like there's like other theories about what the hell it could be and maybe maybe the whole Nauru angle is angles a bit of a bait and switch because I would think surely Velen would know.

[00:53:04] So God knows what other theories that could be it's clearly some kind of they want us to think it's a Nauru I think just because of the whole switching from light to dark and that effect is so bad when it does that.

[00:53:21] It's phenomenal.

[00:53:24] Like even though the Ring and Deeps is my personal favorite zone it's hard not to acknowledge that the best zone objectively probably Hallifor is so cool like when you've got ray tracing enabled and the light switches it just looks incredible absolutely incredible and then it affects the whole zone and all the mobs turn shadow the water turns of OID as well.

[00:53:49] It's really cool and it sort of it opens up the possibility to like there's all sorts of things that could do with this kind of tech potentially in the future but I just want to go for a second though off topic when when the when Beledar does turn to shadow.

[00:54:07] It spawns a shadow void elemental at a random place in the zone.

[00:54:15] You know about this right.

[00:54:16] Yes.

[00:54:17] And he drops a mount.

[00:54:19] Yes.

[00:54:19] I've got the mount.

[00:54:21] Oh look at you.

[00:54:23] You really did know life it.

[00:54:25] You really did.

[00:54:26] Yeah I was on my it's probably my like maybe eight or 10th try but I got the mom.

[00:54:32] Every every few hours and yes I don't have to do that anymore because I've really wanted that moment to warlock man man.

[00:54:39] That is no that warlocks out there.

[00:54:43] Yes this this very much should be in your arsenal it is right up around.

[00:54:48] It is phenomenal and in case anybody's wondering there is a cycle timer out there.

[00:54:53] It looks like every once every three hours it'll go dark for 30 minutes.

[00:54:59] That's the that's the cadence and yes it'll be I think it's called Beledar spawn and it's a rare elite that comes up once every three hours and yes it has a chance to drop the freaking crazy ass.

[00:55:13] I don't know.

[00:55:15] It's an armored void something what is it you're the warlock.

[00:55:20] What is this thing.

[00:55:22] The Void walkers are kind of controversial these days because they used to be categorized as demons void things but now they're sort of categorized as aberrations and it kind of sort of like the shadow walk shadow entities and void walkers and void entities are sort of like demon adjacent

[00:55:49] but they're not considered demons anymore.

[00:55:52] I have no idea what it is but but if you go to yeah if you go to Osho gun in Drenor those void elementals walking all over the place too and especially in other storms well void walkers all over the place.

[00:56:09] It's a hellfire peninsula as void walkers all over the place.

[00:56:12] That seems to just manifest when there's some shadowy void stuff going on and clearly Beledar is a voidy shadowy thing but on that point you know not to get too conspiratorial about this but I've one thing I've noticed that blizzards been doing a lot of recently is they've been making the distinction between void and shadow.

[00:56:37] Hmm void is blue shadow is more purple.

[00:56:41] If you notice and now that I've said it you'll start noticing that a lot in game like the scar in a blue for example.

[00:56:49] Yes Beledar is purple shadow.

[00:56:52] Yeah so so like when the narrow fall to shadow they don't fall to void they fall to shadow and and there's also like

[00:57:05] they added a transomog item.

[00:57:08] I remember where you got it from.

[00:57:11] I think it was part of the earlier request but basically it's like a main it's like a main hand at an offhand one of them is purple and one of them is blue and one of them is void and one of them shadow.

[00:57:21] I'm sitting there thinking why are they trying to push this distinction between void and shadow so I don't know I'm I'm I'm proper tin full hat in it now.

[00:57:32] Maybe there's an explanation but I think you're honest that you're honest something because one of the other things I was going to say is that as we go through Hallow fall and we're learning about you know how the Arathi Empire.

[00:57:44] You know exists out there and what came to be here is the reason why this fleet of Arathi was going across the sea was because they were following their emperor's sacred vision to fight in rena lash which is supposed to be the

[00:58:02] final battle between light and dark.

[00:58:07] So the distinction that you got me thinking about that now where as the void is sort of one type of power maybe and shadow was something else although later on you know at the way end of this campaign we do see Zalatath and she seems to be pulling void energy directly from Bella.

[00:58:27] So yeah maybe not.

[00:58:33] Well I think it is I mean that's basically what she's been doing is going around creating distractions while she sucks up all this energy the whole attack on Dalaran it wasn't the point of it wasn't to attack Dalaran it was to

[00:58:51] Scythe an arcane energy from the main spire.

[00:58:54] Yes if you notice.

[00:58:56] And then this whole thing in Hallow fall again it was a big ass distraction and then she sucks up some of the energy until Aliria gets involved but that dark heart man something spooky about it.

[00:59:11] There is something spooky about it and we spend through the campaign Hallow fall we spend a great deal of time kind of learning about the Iraqi culture that's there and the lamp lighters and chasing off the dark when yes when Bella Dhar does go dark and then they have like a protocol everybody's got to get in doors I gotta light these lights

[00:59:34] and it's like they got a whole reaction that they have to do to it which I think is again it's sort of great immersion that they need to have is you know the environment is changing and other things should change along with it or else it just feels like it gives a shit.

[00:59:52] But as we continue to go through there.

[00:59:56] We're fighting the Ruby and they're still the Ruby and surround we fight you know on this a just wall there's been this you know uptick in the Ruby and activity and we don't know why when they're attacking the shit out of us and we got to fight back and

[01:00:12] I this is where I started getting nervous because now we got a lot of spider stuff happening

[01:00:19] and I wasn't I wasn't so sure about all of that but the

[01:00:27] the sort of through line in this part of the campaign that I think we all kind of knew was coming and I will say here.

[01:00:36] If I was Horde I would sort of be miffed at the fact that the vast majority of this is an alliance storyline

[01:00:45] but a lot of this was again going back to Anduin which we knew from the beginning from the from the great opening cinematic that we had from back at Blizzcon

[01:00:56] he's struggling with his connection to the light after everything that happened in the Shadowlands

[01:01:00] he doesn't feel he's worthy can't reach out to the light all this kind of stuff

[01:01:03] and Farron Lothar who is very much connected to the light is very much using it to do all the things that she needs to do

[01:01:12] proves to be the guide that he needs to start pulling him back in and just reeling him back in from this cliff's edge that he's been at for so long

[01:01:23] and there is a point in time where they have to purify this tower that's been all voided up and everything

[01:01:30] and she at his insistence takes his hand and you see as the light starts to flow kind of back to him for the first time

[01:01:43] and he's surprised that this has happened but they have a little conversation and she says to him this is the first step

[01:01:52] there's more to it than this but we knew that this part of the storyline was going to play out somewhere

[01:01:59] and the way that they had positioned Farron as this pretty noble leader at this point

[01:02:05] I'm a little leery of the Arathi anybody that's that any group that is that singly focused on a sort of religious type thing

[01:02:16] it always always makes me go that's a fine line between you know adherent and acolyte so it's something like I'm not really sure what else going on there

[01:02:26] but I did appreciate seeing how this ultimately did play out where she's helping him and he's continuing to say okay I gotta figure out

[01:02:36] how this is going to work another point in time in the story here that I appreciate was simply just when we went to Merildar

[01:02:45] I think is the name of the town there and we just stopped and had a drink that was it

[01:02:51] Oh that was great that was the quest so much

[01:02:53] Yeah you loved it talk about it

[01:02:58] There was a couple of times in the game where the heroes just you can just take a breather

[01:03:05] and they sit down and they're like okay we're gonna make dinner and try and recover and recuperate a little bit

[01:03:15] and it was it was some really great character building moments that have given this story a level of immersion that was never had before

[01:03:28] and they started doing this I believe I want to say they started doing it in Shadowlands but maybe they started doing it in Bata Frasaroth

[01:03:37] where they do these stay stay a while and listen moments we need a better name for those moments calling them stay a while and listen is like it's too long

[01:03:49] but he's like I wonder what Blizzard must have a name for them internally I'll try and find out what it is

[01:03:54] but the stay a while and listen moments like this was like that but like the next level

[01:03:59] so instead of just like staying there and listening to a conversation you actually like participate in the conversation

[01:04:04] you actually discuss things and stuff like that there's been a whole load of these moments throughout the world within that not only you know build immersion and your connection with the characters

[01:04:16] because like you said this is an online storyline so far and I should be miffed about it

[01:04:22] I don't give a crap about Lyria and Anduin he blew up the under city unprovoked completely unprovoked completely unnecessary

[01:04:33] people said sovannas did it but I think that's fake news I think Anduin and the Alliance did it with their blight bombs

[01:04:39] but you know they attacked my city god damn it but anyway completely unprovoked

[01:04:45] but because of the way it's been delivered I find myself like really engage with storyline even though it's not

[01:04:52] and I'm like I'm a whore I'm a cool crown elite you know the rush did nothing wrong kind of whore kind of guy

[01:04:59] and even I'm like this is great storytelling so but not only that but like also there's some NPCs where if you're a certain class or a certain race

[01:05:13] there's even extra dialogue there for you as well but there's an old like a Nubarak general dude like an old beetle dude who was present during like the third war

[01:05:31] this is the war of the spider?

[01:05:33] yeah and if you show up there as a forsaken he talks about how much he hates the undead

[01:05:41] you know and it's like damn that is like well first of all I at least I remember the forsaken exist for once

[01:05:50] and then B it was like I love that attention to detail because that is immersive it connects you to your racing class fantasy

[01:05:58] it's role playing and for so long I feel like wow was focused way too hard on the MMO aspect of it

[01:06:06] and not enough on the RPG aspect of it so yeah that little conversation and all the stuff that comes with it been fantastic

[01:06:13] and there's I love that you touched on character development in this where there's another one where you go to the head armor there

[01:06:23] and she's talking about how oh Farron you know this Farron's only got the one arm hey Farron you know I've come up with this great new prosthetic

[01:06:30] and I want you to try it and she's like no I don't need it give it to somebody who needs it

[01:06:35] and it's sort of this very selfless sort of person that they're building her up to be where she talks about you know these other veterans who lost arms

[01:06:45] and you know I've got my shield and I'm doing my thing and that's okay and she keeps rebuffing these requests from this head armor

[01:06:52] and it is those little moments where if you skip them you are really doing yourself a disservice in playing this game because you know listen

[01:07:05] I've been there you level up you blast through it because you're trying to get to the end because you're a raider and you want to do a thing or whatever

[01:07:10] and it's just or it's the dopamine rush of like completing a question that's all you want to do

[01:07:15] this game especially this expansion is proving to be so critically stories centric that you just have to do it like you it's like why the fuck are you even playing

[01:07:29] if you skip through this stuff because they really are hitting another gear and it's and it's phenomenal even just you know

[01:07:36] gotta go to like an orphanage and you gotta play games with kids and Farron's reading a story to them and I mean it's just these little quiet moments like this

[01:07:45] this is we've killed gods we've been to the afterlife we've done like all this major crazy shit and like yeah I'm playing a game of hide and seek with this random kid in this town I just can't

[01:07:59] like it's like alright we're doing this so the culmination of this zone is as we move along here is they're fighting back against all this

[01:08:11] this group of I don't know I don't remember what they call them but they're like all lights hammer from wish there it is there you go and what's it team who's hammer

[01:08:22] hammer and to our lights perfect team hey we've been calling it you know team who bloodline over on Smackdown if you if you

[01:08:32] anyway yeah yeah yeah Elricks the main guy they you know propped up and we gotta we gotta beat him up and try to drive back the void and of course we do

[01:08:41] and then that starts to lead us into a shahad and in a shahad there's more spiders and essentially we begin with and when disappearing after a fight where we're on the ship

[01:09:00] and there's spiders and shit's happening and and when falls out and you know is this where he does the the variant thing yes yes where does the very thing

[01:09:11] where if you recall as just said from Legion when variant jumps off the ship and goes you know soared down right on that fell river whatever the thing was

[01:09:21] the road see

[01:09:23] well they're called growthy war machines or something is that what it was I'm being super super nerdy now but no no no you got it you got it

[01:09:32] and when tries to do the same thing like you it's move for move it's like the same kind of thing because you know this is the moment he thinks he needs to do because he can't use the light anymore so this is what we gotta do

[01:09:44] but he gets overtaken by a swarm of nerubians or whatever like oh shit so we gotta go find him we meet or Wiena who is a heron are heron ear heron ear heron ear heron ear

[01:10:01] and we start making our way through ashka het we find ourselves aligning with one of the factions because of course all the rubians aren't the same this is one of the things that we're learning as although we've been fighting them forever

[01:10:19] have to make some of them not bad they're all still scary to me but some of them aren't bad and we end up meeting one of them who is widow Iraq Iraq night rock day

[01:10:33] and she has her own player often one area and that's where our sort of main area is and we find out she is a follower of queen nephra s who we saw in that cinematic was we thought killed by ancerec her daughter who was you know being corrupted or giving herself over to Zalatath

[01:10:55] and so this is this is sort of the main stage for this part of the campaign is now we're fighting back against the other nerubians she wants to enact revenge for nephra s death because she was a follower of hers

[01:11:10] and we spend a good majority of this zone being covered in a spider spooge because it like you know makes a smell right so we can get past certain people and the city of threads where we have to spend a lot of time right you're you're moving around

[01:11:31] you're meeting certain people it's kind of like suramar where there's guards and if you follow within the circle you get found out you beat gas low gas low is there gotta be happy about that

[01:11:40] oh yeah so shows up we love gas though he's he's quite something and as we work our way through there we find out that and when right has not been kidnapped by the baddies he is in fact aligned himself with these good folks that we meet out there

[01:11:57] and as we read you to fight was that the rebels by the spider rebels spider rebels the through line for all of this remember we talked about much about her is alleria and the single minded focus that she has on getting to Zalatath that's like the one thing going through all of this

[01:12:19] I gotta get out that I gotta get out that you killed Kat gar killed my boy you blew up my city I'm fighting off the void and she's whispering shit to me and you know that's that's the through line through all of this and it does culminate eventually in her

[01:12:38] giving a giving our position away as she shoots at

[01:12:43] I guess it's is it answer act

[01:12:46] I remember

[01:12:48] it's the day of ascension where she's gonna show herself off and they're gonna do their whole thing and everyone's like let's not do this thing now fuck it we do

[01:12:58] we have to go through scenario we have to fight through the city to escape you know she jumps off the edge was on the finger whatever it is but within this whole situation

[01:13:11] I believe we find out I'm looking through my notes here oh maybe that comes yeah so we made our foothold there in a shikah head and

[01:13:26] yeah that's all I can really say about that I don't remember too much more I'm gonna be real with you I kind of spent

[01:13:35] because I wanted to get the fuck out of there so fighters I'm doing you a bit of this service

[01:13:43] but this one ends with us in the scenario running through city of threads fighting a bunch of spiders and jumping out and then we end up of course back in Dornagall

[01:13:53] where if you're max level now you can continue to play through the campaign and our allies have showed up we got reinforcements

[01:14:03] look at that shit, Thrall showed up, Jaina showed up, we got forces, they're training on a beat somewhere they're yelling at each other some really hilarious shit

[01:14:13] which I enjoyed them talking trash or an alliance that was fun

[01:14:17] you know that's the war back in Warcraft jazz that's what we were looking for I know they're gonna eventually fight together against

[01:14:25] you know the forces of Queen Ansarek and the nerubians and the alatath and all that but at least for one brief shining moment they're talking shit

[01:14:35] and I know we got a trainer but at least you got it at least you got some of it

[01:14:41] yeah yeah I mean the whole Azkir head zone like a lot of people have been comparing it to Suramar and it is hard to ignore the parallels there

[01:14:51] it's a very detailed zone it's got the guards it's got the sneaking around it's got the rebel insurrection against the corrupted monarch kind of thing

[01:15:02] you know the parallels are undeniable but it just works really well and I think like in this universe that we're in

[01:15:12] it just tends to happen you know in the world of Warcraft you know where you know if one power becomes dictatorial then potentially you're gonna have rebels

[01:15:24] we've dealt with Garrosh we've dealt with Sylvanas we've dealt with Suramar

[01:15:33] it's always hard for some reason I guess that means an arubian that's hard coded but soon we'll be dealing with Turalyon probably becoming a dictator

[01:15:42] I wonder that's my head cannon but the zone was really good overall I do have to say though it's quite a security flaw

[01:15:54] but no matter what you look like the spiders know that you're not a spider but as long as you smell like one they're cool with it

[01:16:05] yeah oh you're blatantly a goblin who you smell right so that's okay that's got that's a slight that is a security

[01:16:14] militarily speaking that's a significant security problem I would think it does seem like an oversight doesn't it

[01:16:21] but that's how um that's exactly that's how ants work if you didn't know this

[01:16:28] so like ants right if you've got if you've got two ant colonies that exact same species they can tell if you're the right if you they can tell that you're from their colony

[01:16:39] if you smell right so they come they come up to the ant and they rub their antennae over them and they're like oh yeah you you pass the check

[01:16:47] and um if you don't pass a check that will rip your arms and legs off and kill it

[01:16:52] and I know this because I am a frequent viewer of the YouTube channel ants candler which I highly recommend very good channel

[01:16:59] and now I know everything about ants and then by extension Neurobeans I'm an expert of Neurobean biology now

[01:17:07] because of this

[01:17:08] but I hire you

[01:17:11] but uh but yeah I thought this zone overall was really good

[01:17:14] um it's uh

[01:17:17] and you know you mentioned the alleria

[01:17:22] did you mention that alleria fires the arrow right yeah and then we sort of find out something even more devastating that this the fate of

[01:17:32] the fate of nephros I don't know if you mentioned that part

[01:17:36] I haven't gotten to that because I think that is is that part of the

[01:17:42] what I was looking at I think that's part of the end max level campaign

[01:17:47] I suppose the the other main part about this zone which I thought was really interesting

[01:17:54] um is the parts of the zone that are infested with black blood

[01:17:59] which is not a new concept to wow

[01:18:03] um you know I'm much like friendly Neurobeans aren't a new concept either there is a faction of friendly Neurobeans in Wrath

[01:18:10] who give us quests to kill undead Neurobeans

[01:18:13] but there's also um this concept of Saranite from Wrath

[01:18:18] which was the the crystallized blood of Yog-Saron

[01:18:23] and then the Lich King Wenen made his whole fortress out of Saranite

[01:18:29] which um you know has a sort of corrupting effect on its citizens

[01:18:36] there's some quests in Wrath where um you uh you go into a cave and it's just full of faceless ones and old god tentacles and all kinds of stuff

[01:18:44] because that's where the the the vrykul the undead vrykul are mining the Saranite to build ice crown citadel's defences

[01:18:53] and Yog-Saron's blood is just going going haywire over there

[01:18:58] it's back when like wow story was a little bit more chaotic and all over the place

[01:19:03] and we just kind of infer things a little bit more than you do now

[01:19:05] but it is this concept of the the the very death even a dead old god is still a huge threat to Azra

[01:19:15] and um and one of the things we know from the the the lore is that the titans when they first came to Azra

[01:19:24] they found the old gods infesting the planet and the black empire spread across the planet

[01:19:29] and they you know their their planet sized the titans are like when you look at Sargeras in the legion

[01:19:36] you get no idea of how big a titan he's actually supposed to look

[01:19:41] and I believe was it was it Kazgaroth I think

[01:19:45] he literally reached down onto Azeroth and grabbed his shard and ripped ripped her out of the planet

[01:19:54] but the problem is when he ripped her out it's similar to like why like if you've got a cancerous mole

[01:20:06] you can't just cut it off it has to be frozen and then surgically removed because if you rip it off

[01:20:11] the cancerous cells will potentially spread into your bloodstream right

[01:20:15] and it's a similar kind of concept that rip your shard out and now your shard is blood and entrails

[01:20:22] basically blighted the land of pandaria now

[01:20:25] and this is a similar kind of concept is that in Azk'eher there's all this black blood that's gathering underground

[01:20:35] in these like festering pools and it's even created an alternative reality called the Unseeming

[01:20:44] which is what the Harineer deal with and the Harineer these sort of trolly, LV

[01:20:51] they're not elf models but they're troll tusks and ears

[01:20:55] so they're kind of like the missing link between elves and trolls I think

[01:20:58] but they're sort of dealing with this black blood stuff

[01:21:02] and it's created like what they call the Unseeming

[01:21:06] and as if like if you spend too much time with this radioactive sludge

[01:21:10] which has started literally poisoning the landscape turning it purple

[01:21:15] tentacles growing out the walls and crazy fauna

[01:21:18] looks very much like Nazoth's boss room to be honest

[01:21:23] and you have to remember like the whole Nazoth raid takes place in an alternative universe

[01:21:31] alternative vision because the old the black empire and what the old gods can do is

[01:21:37] they basically put you in the matrix

[01:21:41] you're basically enslaved but your brain goes into their hive mind

[01:21:46] and that seems to be what the black blood is starting to recreate now

[01:21:50] so there's all these plot threads sort of spinning a web

[01:21:56] he was a spider analogy

[01:21:59] weaving a web across the storyline and even in like the little pockets

[01:22:04] because it's just a little quest area this place with the black blood

[01:22:07] but there's also like these roots which seem to be the roots of an old world tree

[01:22:14] yeah in law there's also a destroyed world tree

[01:22:21] which I think was lost and they don't know where it is

[01:22:26] so this could be the roots of that old world tree

[01:22:31] and that's been infested by the black blood now as well

[01:22:34] it's wild man

[01:22:36] the amount of implications that are sort of

[01:22:43] if you are someone who's into the law and that kind of stuff

[01:22:46] but if you're not, you can just go to the zone, skip all that stuff

[01:22:48] just grind out the dailies

[01:22:51] and there's plenty of them to do

[01:22:52] they're all about killing spiders though

[01:22:55] that part I like

[01:23:00] yeah sort of speed run through what's left of the campaign

[01:23:05] so once you reach max level which you can't reach max level

[01:23:09] just doing the campaign quest you gotta do some other stuff

[01:23:12] again recommend doing that anyway because it's fucking rad

[01:23:16] but we end up essentially marshaling our forces reinforcements come

[01:23:21] we train them up

[01:23:22] we head on down to Oshka Het where as you mentioned

[01:23:26] we find out that Queen Neferes is in fact not dead

[01:23:32] but instead the first ascended and turned into this giant fucking behemoth

[01:23:39] I don't know, beetle of some, I don't even know what you call this thing

[01:23:41] but it's just enormous, she's got fangs and spikes and horns

[01:23:46] and pretty fucking crazy

[01:23:50] and that's what actually happened

[01:23:53] so she's still alive and that has implications because now

[01:23:56] people that were with the sort of guide that we have wants to try to save her

[01:24:02] and that doesn't really work out well for her right away

[01:24:05] and then we end up talking to the

[01:24:11] the machine speakers some more we gotta get some golems

[01:24:14] we gotta get some forces going and I'm really just speedrunning all this

[01:24:17] so we can get to the end

[01:24:19] which is chapter five

[01:24:21] which is the one that we just had this past week

[01:24:24] where we finally have a showdown with Zalatath

[01:24:29] that to me feels meaningful

[01:24:32] in the sense that we end up at the priory of the sacred flames

[01:24:37] we're in Hallowfall, Belladar is dark

[01:24:42] and we try to go in there and that's where Neferes in her

[01:24:45] you know, Beal, Bug, Giant, Behemoth form whatever it is

[01:24:50] we fight her, we don't kill her

[01:24:51] we don't kill her, we leave her alive

[01:24:54] you know, whatever her giant body is we leave her alive

[01:24:57] and we end up going in there and there's a wonderful cinematic that plays

[01:25:02] where Illyria shoots her shot

[01:25:04] Zalatath's you know, you can't kill me

[01:25:06] he's like I'm not aiming for you and she hits the

[01:25:09] you know, the new demon soul

[01:25:12] what do we call this thing, remind me?

[01:25:16] the thing that all calm

[01:25:18] yeah, hits it

[01:25:19] starts to shatter

[01:25:20] you don't see it actually shatter but it starts to like crack

[01:25:23] and like major crack

[01:25:26] and we see Zalatath's cool like get broken for the first time

[01:25:30] and she's like you know, this isn't the end

[01:25:32] and we see her like get angry for the first time

[01:25:34] which is kinda cool

[01:25:36] and she goes into like one of these warped looking bubble things

[01:25:39] and then boom it spits out

[01:25:41] she disappears but it spits out this like ghostly raven form

[01:25:44] and then laying there on the floor

[01:25:47] transformed is Khadgar

[01:25:48] who says one final thing to Illyria about it

[01:25:51] I knew you could do it and then he dies

[01:25:53] and you're like oh I knew he lived

[01:25:55] and then oh my god he dies

[01:25:57] and then

[01:25:58] Illyria, Sad, Holding Khadgar

[01:26:00] oh my god he died and there's anyone standing there

[01:26:03] and I'm like come on my boy

[01:26:05] this is the time

[01:26:06] this is the time and place

[01:26:07] I'm like yelling at my screen as this is playing

[01:26:10] I'm like come on my dude

[01:26:11] now's the moment

[01:26:13] it's fucking around

[01:26:14] this is it, this is the time

[01:26:15] come on man and then music hits

[01:26:18] and it's the fucking storm wind

[01:26:21] human alliance music

[01:26:22] and I'm like he's gonna do the thing

[01:26:27] Khadgar the music's playing and it's the Anduin theme

[01:26:30] and the light comes down and like ohhhhhh

[01:26:32] Khadgar is alive

[01:26:33] and I was like this is the best shit ever

[01:26:36] ah god I fucking love this game

[01:26:37] it's like finally

[01:26:39] finally Anduin has his moment of

[01:26:42] like yes

[01:26:43] the light is with him

[01:26:45] and not just momentarily

[01:26:47] like he finally did something like legit with it

[01:26:49] and that's gotta pay some big dividends here

[01:26:52] and Illyria

[01:26:54] making a wise choice in terms of

[01:26:56] what she wants to do

[01:26:57] in terms of confronting Xalata

[01:26:59] so as far as the story line goes

[01:27:02] that's where we are at the moment

[01:27:04] heading into the raid

[01:27:06] that when this episode launches

[01:27:07] the raid starts tomorrow

[01:27:09] Narabar Palace

[01:27:11] and we'll talk about that next time

[01:27:13] but essentially that is the giant arc

[01:27:16] and again I know we've spent through this

[01:27:17] to a great degree because there is a lot to cover here

[01:27:20] but that is in a nutshell

[01:27:23] the story arc that we've gone to

[01:27:26] going from Isle of Dorne

[01:27:29] down into Reandeep through Hell of Fall

[01:27:31] across Oshka Head

[01:27:32] and then back up and down a bunch of times

[01:27:34] to confront Xalata

[01:27:36] and marshal our forces

[01:27:37] to the point where we've damaged the dark heart

[01:27:40] don't know exactly what that means

[01:27:42] and Xalata seemingly disappeared for the moment

[01:27:44] while we go deal with some

[01:27:47] Narubian antics

[01:27:47] but we got Khadgar

[01:27:51] got him back

[01:27:52] happy about that

[01:27:53] and it seems like we're on good footing

[01:27:57] for the moment

[01:28:00] and otherwise

[01:28:01] a solid campaign

[01:28:04] solid leveling campaign

[01:28:06] pace was good

[01:28:08] story was great

[01:28:10] had a wonderful time

[01:28:11] I look forward to going through with my Alton

[01:28:13] getting additional XP percentage

[01:28:16] because I've already leveled one

[01:28:18] and that's a nice little bonus

[01:28:20] for your warband

[01:28:22] getting the increased XP as you go

[01:28:25] but overall

[01:28:27] I thought it was A to Z

[01:28:29] a pretty good experience

[01:28:30] I'd give this one a solid 9 out of 10

[01:28:34] maybe a 9.5 out of 10

[01:28:35] and that only half point or one point

[01:28:38] is just because of spiders

[01:28:40] everything else

[01:28:42] absolutely loved it

[01:28:43] now your official

[01:28:48] I know you're working on your official review post

[01:28:50] has that gone live yet

[01:28:52] are you still in the process of editing that?

[01:28:54] I'm still writing it

[01:28:56] I mean to my mind

[01:28:59] either I publish it earlier as a review in progress

[01:29:02] because what I usually do is wait for season 1

[01:29:05] and complete the raid

[01:29:06] before I put a score on it

[01:29:08] I feel like the raid

[01:29:10] gives you the full package

[01:29:13] kind of experience at least for me

[01:29:14] but as of right now

[01:29:17] I'm hovering overall

[01:29:18] the story and the design of the world

[01:29:21] those are 9 out of 10s for me

[01:29:24] definitely

[01:29:24] but there are some systemic things

[01:29:28] which I think knock it down a bit for me

[01:29:30] and one of them is the hero talents

[01:29:33] I'm really worried that hero talents

[01:29:35] will become this sort of covenant-esque system

[01:29:38] where you have to trade aesthetic for DPS

[01:29:41] and I think with hero talents

[01:29:43] that's a huge deal

[01:29:44] because as a warlock

[01:29:46] not so much of a big deal

[01:29:48] if I'm trading one demon for another one

[01:29:50] but if I'm like

[01:29:52] a marksmanship hunter for example

[01:29:54] I have to choose between being

[01:29:56] an evil dark ranger

[01:29:58] or being an elf sentinel

[01:30:00] so it's a really

[01:30:03] it's a huge dichotomy of aesthetic choice there

[01:30:06] you know

[01:30:08] on the level that covenants were

[01:30:10] where it was like well

[01:30:11] I don't want to be

[01:30:13] the best DPS option for warlock

[01:30:16] but the covenants was

[01:30:18] the stupid very

[01:30:20] people

[01:30:21] the night fair

[01:30:21] to get soul rot right

[01:30:23] and I was just like there ain't no way

[01:30:26] I'm gonna join that covenant

[01:30:28] so I played suboptimally

[01:30:30] the whole expansion

[01:30:32] and it felt bad

[01:30:34] didn't feel good

[01:30:35] and I'm worried that hero talents

[01:30:37] for some classes are gonna end up being like that again

[01:30:39] where it's like

[01:30:41] I don't want to be a dark ranger

[01:30:46] well you and I did talk about at the beginning

[01:30:48] it sounds like there's been some changes though

[01:30:51] yes there has been some changes

[01:30:53] so like

[01:30:55] I mean that was my other complaint

[01:30:57] my other complaint was that some of them just

[01:30:59] were just half baked

[01:31:00] and like a dark ranger for example

[01:31:02] being one of them

[01:31:04] they didn't really have any graphics

[01:31:06] and the spec didn't work very well

[01:31:09] it just didn't feel

[01:31:10] finished

[01:31:11] you know there was no animations really for it

[01:31:15] or very very light animations

[01:31:16] whereas like

[01:31:18] I had talked about it before

[01:31:20] but my warlock

[01:31:21] someone a god damn pit lord

[01:31:23] no huge flashy pit lord

[01:31:26] that shoots a gigantic green laser beam

[01:31:29] across the screen

[01:31:30] and then like dark ranger just gets this

[01:31:33] piddly little shadowy

[01:31:35] lion that comes out every now and then

[01:31:38] well like my disc priest

[01:31:40] can summon a black hole for god's sake

[01:31:43] and then like the you know

[01:31:45] more than I'm getting

[01:31:48] all of it

[01:31:48] I'm not getting anything

[01:31:51] Slayer just spins a lot right

[01:31:54] the warrior slat

[01:31:55] yeah we get an extra spin

[01:31:56] you get the spinner

[01:31:58] the bladestorm becomes useful

[01:32:00] but that's what I mean

[01:32:01] some of them are really flashy and impressive

[01:32:04] and interesting and others just

[01:32:05] don't feel finished

[01:32:07] but it looks like Blizzard's taking that

[01:32:10] feedback on board because they've

[01:32:11] done they've completely rebuilt

[01:32:14] dark ranger from the ground up

[01:32:16] they've changed every single talent

[01:32:18] in that tree

[01:32:19] and also added shitloads of new animations

[01:32:22] for it

[01:32:22] so now black arrow not only has replaced

[01:32:25] kill shot but it also has a new graphic

[01:32:27] which looks great

[01:32:28] but also there's this like

[01:32:30] they've borrowed

[01:32:32] still varnaces banshee form

[01:32:34] where like the black tendrils come out

[01:32:37] of a back

[01:32:37] and that now happens when you're using

[01:32:40] black arrow as well so

[01:32:41] you get that Sylvanas fantasy

[01:32:44] with dark ranger now

[01:32:46] whereas before you just got black arrow

[01:32:48] which hunters used to have anyway

[01:32:51] but it's like you know

[01:32:53] so it does look like

[01:32:55] they're working on some of this stuff

[01:32:57] and they're looking at which talents

[01:32:59] hero talent trees are maybe underbaked

[01:33:01] and stuff like that so

[01:33:02] if we're talking like system stuff

[01:33:04] right now I'm hovering around an eight

[01:33:06] because I'm not that impressed with the hero talents

[01:33:10] and

[01:33:12] I'm really

[01:33:14] I'm really into minds about delves

[01:33:16] like will they become

[01:33:19] repetitive

[01:33:20] and all that kind of stuff

[01:33:22] but also like when I'm reviewing a game

[01:33:25] I really have to think about it from every angle

[01:33:27] and I think the new player experience

[01:33:29] in WoW is still terrible

[01:33:32] you know like it's like

[01:33:34] now when you make a new character

[01:33:35] they send you off to dragonflight

[01:33:37] which is much better than battle for Azeroth

[01:33:40] which was in the middle of a saga

[01:33:42] but even dragon flights like

[01:33:45] it's still a bit weird

[01:33:47] compared to like how it used to be

[01:33:49] where you go through your racial storyline

[01:33:52] doing low stakes

[01:33:54] low stakes, local stuff

[01:33:56] and then you go and meet your faction leader

[01:33:58] and they send you to silver pine forest

[01:34:00] or something like that

[01:34:01] and you collect 15 pumpkins

[01:34:04] and you eventually build up to becoming the god killer right

[01:34:07] whereas like now it's just like

[01:34:09] okay you go into dragonflight

[01:34:11] and you are already the champion

[01:34:13] I don't think that's a good way to immerse new players

[01:34:16] so I have to take that into consideration too

[01:34:19] when I'm reviewing the whole package

[01:34:20] but it's just an expansion for right now

[01:34:22] I'm hovering around an eight

[01:34:23] just because I'm still not sure about delves

[01:34:27] not sure about hero talents

[01:34:29] but the story

[01:34:30] and most of this discussion has been about the story

[01:34:33] the story's been phenomenal

[01:34:34] the graphics are phenomenal

[01:34:35] the art's phenomenal

[01:34:37] the acting and the music

[01:34:38] even the music feels like it took a step up

[01:34:41] like it feels like there's more dynamic music now

[01:34:45] which ramps up in intensity over the course of a boss fight

[01:34:48] I don't know if I'm imagining that or not

[01:34:49] but it feels like even the music's had a pass as well

[01:34:52] so a lot of stuff to love

[01:34:55] and overall it's been

[01:34:57] the best introduction to an expansion ever probably

[01:35:01] for me

[01:35:01] I'm a misleadian

[01:35:05] so

[01:35:07] no I agree there's just

[01:35:09] I'm

[01:35:11] I'm terrible about being able to pinpoint

[01:35:13] exactly why

[01:35:17] some things work and some things don't

[01:35:19] but there is just something of this

[01:35:22] maybe it is

[01:35:23] and I said this before

[01:35:23] maybe it is the metzen magic

[01:35:24] I don't know but there is something that just feels

[01:35:29] better different

[01:35:30] whatever it is like I am

[01:35:32] I'm so invested

[01:35:33] I

[01:35:34] I said at the top

[01:35:36] I've fallen back in love with World of Warcraft

[01:35:39] in a way that I haven't in a very long time

[01:35:41] and it's nice

[01:35:44] it's so surprising

[01:35:45] and I'd even talked about

[01:35:47] this with my wife before the expansion launched

[01:35:49] I was like man you know I

[01:35:51] I just I really hope this one hits

[01:35:53] I really hope this one hits

[01:35:54] because I've kind of been in a place just

[01:35:56] in my brain generally

[01:35:58] and it really that

[01:36:01] I don't know that weekend just really lifted me up

[01:36:03] and it was very

[01:36:05] very welcome

[01:36:07] before we move on to our

[01:36:09] our last item

[01:36:12] for the day

[01:36:13] I wanted to give a special shout out

[01:36:15] if they ever listened to this to the quest team

[01:36:20] a lot of the side quests

[01:36:21] are fun and interesting in their own ways

[01:36:24] but there was one in particular on the Isle of Dorne

[01:36:27] that I've seen a lot of people comment about

[01:36:29] and I just wanted to put my piece on it too

[01:36:31] there's one where you're helping

[01:36:33] this

[01:36:34] Earthen who essentially is

[01:36:37] losing his memories

[01:36:39] and wants to do a planned shutdown

[01:36:43] and

[01:36:44] obviously real life corollary to this

[01:36:47] is

[01:36:48] people that you may know in your life

[01:36:50] that

[01:36:51] you know have some sort of degenerative

[01:36:54] situation

[01:36:55] in this case particularly

[01:36:56] you know neurologically

[01:37:00] people that you know that have

[01:37:03] Alzheimer's or dementia

[01:37:04] or these kinds of things

[01:37:05] and this character realizes that

[01:37:08] and you're helping them carry out

[01:37:09] kind of their final vision for things

[01:37:11] and you end up

[01:37:13] being there when this shutdown happens

[01:37:16] and

[01:37:18] going through that whole thing

[01:37:20] and anybody I think it's been through a similar experience

[01:37:22] in their real life

[01:37:23] I mean I knew where it was going

[01:37:24] and I knew what was happening

[01:37:27] but it

[01:37:28] you know I just had to

[01:37:32] do the

[01:37:34] funeral service for my grandparents

[01:37:36] last month

[01:37:38] and

[01:37:40] my grandfather

[01:37:41] had

[01:37:43] a very similar kind of situation

[01:37:45] condition

[01:37:46] before he passed

[01:37:48] specifically and

[01:37:50] you know just the timing

[01:37:52] subject

[01:37:53] the care with which it was

[01:37:57] addressed

[01:37:57] I just

[01:37:59] it was such a home run

[01:38:00] and so unexpected

[01:38:01] and it was not part of the main campaign

[01:38:04] it was just something that was there

[01:38:06] and I

[01:38:07] read it to whoever came up with that

[01:38:10] that was unreal

[01:38:12] and so spot on

[01:38:14] and spoke to a place

[01:38:16] I did not expect

[01:38:17] I surprised the shit out of me in a good way

[01:38:20] in a hard way

[01:38:23] but

[01:38:23] a way that I'm appreciative to have experienced

[01:38:26] in this game

[01:38:27] in World of Warcraft

[01:38:29] I'm having this emotional experience about

[01:38:32] this side quest

[01:38:33] that has nothing to do with being a god killer

[01:38:36] or a universe saver or nothing

[01:38:38] you're helping this one individual

[01:38:40] who is at the end of their life

[01:38:42] go out

[01:38:43] in their way

[01:38:45] on their terms and you're helping make sure

[01:38:47] that they take care of it

[01:38:48] which to me

[01:38:50] that was always what kept me centered

[01:38:52] when I had to

[01:38:54] you know

[01:38:56] for lack of a better way of saying it

[01:38:58] I'm sort of my family's spokesperson so if

[01:39:00] you're being married or buried

[01:39:01] I'm the one that's performing the service

[01:39:03] that may not come as a surprise to some people

[01:39:05] but I've

[01:39:07] I've always felt like particularly

[01:39:12] my duty to make sure that everything

[01:39:14] that they

[01:39:15] wanted everything that they needed to have

[01:39:17] happened that I made sure that that happened

[01:39:20] and

[01:39:22] you know it's just like a sacred responsibility

[01:39:24] that

[01:39:27] they may not be here to know that it happened

[01:39:29] but

[01:39:30] that before they lost the ability to know

[01:39:33] that they would have been comforted by the fact

[01:39:36] that I made sure

[01:39:37] and my family made sure

[01:39:38] that things that they wanted

[01:39:40] happened

[01:39:42] and you know I'm happy to say in a weird way

[01:39:44] that that has what has come to pass

[01:39:47] you know I've always been able to do that

[01:39:48] so then to see that reflected

[01:39:50] in my hobby of choice

[01:39:54] some powerful shit

[01:39:56] I just

[01:39:57] was really appreciative of that

[01:39:58] and I'm sure you saw

[01:40:00] I know you saw that quest too because you

[01:40:03] you know you cleared us all out

[01:40:05] but

[01:40:05] you know credit to the team for coming up with those

[01:40:09] were there any

[01:40:10] special side quests that

[01:40:12] you know hit you at all in a particular way

[01:40:15] well that one especially

[01:40:16] you know that was very poignant

[01:40:21] and I have similar experience with my grandparents

[01:40:24] you know

[01:40:24] as well

[01:40:26] in that context

[01:40:28] and it kind of reminded me of

[01:40:33] the

[01:40:35] some of the little stories in Dragonflow as well

[01:40:39] where I think like Blizzard just like let

[01:40:41] some of the team just cook

[01:40:44] in a small side quest

[01:40:45] and it really shows like someone really

[01:40:49] put their heart into this you know

[01:40:52] there's some lighter ones that

[01:40:54] I thought were really funny

[01:40:55] there's like in Ajka Hat

[01:40:58] there's a spider therapy

[01:41:01] group with a spider called Mr. Sunshine

[01:41:04] which I thought was hilarious for one thing

[01:41:06] but there's a spider in there

[01:41:09] who's got a phobia of creatures with two legs

[01:41:11] oh yes right

[01:41:14] and the spider is like

[01:41:15] oh my god it's like someone's pulled all your arms

[01:41:18] and legs off you've already got two legs left

[01:41:20] and then

[01:41:21] I thought that was kind of

[01:41:24] it was kind of fun

[01:41:25] it was a fun way to look at phobias you know

[01:41:28] but I am someone I used to be

[01:41:31] definitely afraid of the spider

[01:41:33] I'm a city boy

[01:41:34] and don't see spiders very often

[01:41:36] and like you know when I was growing up

[01:41:39] my mom saw a spider she'd go screaming

[01:41:41] so I just sort of like oh god spider is something

[01:41:43] to be scared of you know so I inherited it

[01:41:46] but then like when I started living

[01:41:48] my girlfriend in South Germany in the countryside

[01:41:50] there's spiders everywhere

[01:41:53] so I had to

[01:41:54] I think I was like I can look

[01:41:56] I'm looking up at the scene there's like four or five

[01:41:58] in here that I can count right now

[01:42:00] so I kind of had to like

[01:42:02] I've had to

[01:42:04] learn to get used to spiders

[01:42:06] and exposure therapy genuinely works

[01:42:09] that's it exposure therapy

[01:42:11] that's fine even

[01:42:13] like that's a promise I have

[01:42:15] when I was visiting family in England

[01:42:17] over the summer

[01:42:18] there was a spider on the wall

[01:42:20] I was able for the first time

[01:42:22] in my entire life to picking it up with my hand

[01:42:26] and get rid of it

[01:42:27] like that you know instead of

[01:42:29] trying to

[01:42:30] get a vacuum or something you know

[01:42:32] so I've kind of like

[01:42:36] that was kind of a fun quest

[01:42:38] to play through as well

[01:42:39] but there's a lot of

[01:42:40] a lot of quests like that where

[01:42:42] a lot of the urban lore

[01:42:46] like they've had to establish

[01:42:47] a lot of new lore for how

[01:42:49] earthen work you know

[01:42:50] they're made of rock

[01:42:51] so do they eat

[01:42:52] they're dwarfs so they drink alcohol

[01:42:54] but how does it affect them

[01:42:56] there's like a lot of text files

[01:42:58] in games which explain their physiology

[01:43:00] and like the titans made it so

[01:43:02] they don't need to eat but they can eat

[01:43:04] if they want to

[01:43:05] and they can enjoy flavours

[01:43:08] and they can get intoxicated

[01:43:09] the titans made them that way for some reason

[01:43:13] so like there's tons of lore

[01:43:16] which goes through all this

[01:43:18] and the life and death cycle

[01:43:20] of the earth and how their sort of

[01:43:22] their brains kind of work like

[01:43:26] like a hard drive

[01:43:28] like an old school hard drive

[01:43:30] or a solid state hard drive

[01:43:32] where like eventually

[01:43:34] you run out of

[01:43:36] read writes over thousands and thousands of years

[01:43:39] you run you know the SSDs eventually fail

[01:43:42] because they've run out of

[01:43:44] read writes and then they're supposed to go into that machine

[01:43:47] the awakening machine to get there

[01:43:48] to get defragged basically

[01:43:50] but the machine's been broken

[01:43:52] like a lot of those earthen have just been gradually

[01:43:56] losing their memory

[01:43:58] and nowhere to write new memories to

[01:44:00] and basically having an experience

[01:44:02] and not a

[01:44:04] akin to dementia which is

[01:44:06] this crazy man

[01:44:07] it's really great to see them weave these sort of stories

[01:44:10] into the context of wow

[01:44:13] in a thoughtful way

[01:44:14] and give representation to

[01:44:17] things that are going to affect everyone

[01:44:19] I can see like

[01:44:20] I can see like edgy

[01:44:22] teens being like oh this quest is dumb or whatever

[01:44:25] but like when they get to our age

[01:44:28] and they're starting to see like that folks get older

[01:44:30] or their grandparents get older

[01:44:32] a lot of these kind of stories like

[01:44:34] they'll hit man

[01:44:35] they hit different and I think Blizzard

[01:44:38] Blizzard's grown up with its audience too

[01:44:41] and they know that we've grown up as well

[01:44:42] we're all old now

[01:44:44] like everyone in my guild is over 30

[01:44:45] pretty much

[01:44:48] and the game's adapted for us

[01:44:50] so yeah it's been a great experience

[01:44:52] the first expansion

[01:44:54] ever that I've done

[01:44:56] the Lore Walker achievement in

[01:44:58] I've done every single quest

[01:45:00] in the whole game

[01:45:01] the first time ever that I've done that in expansion

[01:45:04] ever

[01:45:06] because there was just so much good stuff to find

[01:45:10] there was a stamp of approval

[01:45:13] I think that's probably it

[01:45:15] you've seen it all man

[01:45:17] it's in the whole game

[01:45:18] and I've done the achievements

[01:45:21] to find all those logs

[01:45:22] the text files

[01:45:26] I've read it all

[01:45:27] done every single quest

[01:45:28] and I've never done that before

[01:45:30] never been that invested

[01:45:31] so

[01:45:33] they absolutely knocked out the part

[01:45:35] with all that stuff

[01:45:36] that's awesome

[01:45:38] well

[01:45:39] as all of you continue to play through

[01:45:42] you know you've heard what we have to say about it

[01:45:45] and our high praise

[01:45:45] and some of the critiques

[01:45:47] but really enjoy it

[01:45:49] enjoy the experience

[01:45:55] like the last Titan or the

[01:45:57] you know however many expansions come after that

[01:45:59] but right now this time

[01:46:01] this experience

[01:46:02] the war within it is about as good

[01:46:05] as I think we can ask for

[01:46:06] so really, really try to enjoy it

[01:46:09] and as this episode drops

[01:46:11] on Monday the 9th

[01:46:15] tomorrow

[01:46:15] if you're listening to it

[01:46:17] Monday

[01:46:18] tomorrow the 10th

[01:46:20] taking the next step

[01:46:21] which is the opening of the

[01:46:23] of the new raid season one

[01:46:26] the

[01:46:28] Narubar palace

[01:46:29] there's eight bosses in this sucker

[01:46:31] and on this Tuesday

[01:46:34] there'll be normal heroic

[01:46:36] and LFR wing one opening up

[01:46:38] mythic dungeons will be available

[01:46:41] tier four and above delves

[01:46:43] will be unlocked

[01:46:44] there's also a new seasonal cave

[01:46:46] PVP you've got a new arena

[01:46:48] and battleground season

[01:46:51] and the next week

[01:46:51] there's a new level of

[01:46:51] level of Q

[01:46:51] whatever that is enjoy PVP

[01:46:54] I don't do it you know it

[01:46:56] technically PVP is your source

[01:46:57] for all things PVP

[01:46:58] go over there talk to those boys

[01:47:00] and then next week September 17

[01:47:02] mythic difficulty for the raids

[01:47:04] story mode

[01:47:05] definitely going to check out

[01:47:06] story mode so we'll talk about that

[01:47:08] on the next episode

[01:47:09] LFR wing two

[01:47:21] tent

[01:47:21] roll out there most immediately

[01:47:24] getting the raids going and

[01:47:25] there'll be other things going on

[01:47:27] there's a mythic dungeon

[01:47:30] invitation I think that's coming up

[01:47:32] there's a bunch of that kind of

[01:47:34] activity that's going to be

[01:47:36] happening out there in the

[01:47:37] community so keep your eyes open

[01:47:40] more than that though

[01:47:42] we've been waiting and this will

[01:47:43] be the last thing we talk about

[01:47:44] today we've been waiting for a

[01:47:45] while to hear about the 20th

[01:47:51] anniversary of the 20 years bro

[01:47:54] 20 years

[01:47:55] and we're like cooking at all

[01:47:57] time level that just tells you how

[01:47:58] special this situation is folks

[01:48:00] so they had a they had a

[01:48:02] a wow cast

[01:48:04] Blizzard did they put out a

[01:48:05] wow cast and they talked about

[01:48:07] what the 20th anniversary for us

[01:48:10] is going to bring first and

[01:48:11] foremost what they're bringing is

[01:48:12] some badass art

[01:48:14] if you've never looked before

[01:48:17] there is a press room

[01:48:21] to where if you like all of this

[01:48:23] art that they put out whenever

[01:48:24] there's like a new patch or whatever

[01:48:25] you can download a lot of that

[01:48:26] shit on their website and right

[01:48:29] now the 20th anniversary piece

[01:48:31] that they have is fucking

[01:48:33] phenomenal it's got like all these

[01:48:36] you know great baddies of the past

[01:48:38] and our current heroes

[01:48:40] and the art style the whole way

[01:48:41] that they did it's phenomenal so

[01:48:42] the art you're getting that gift

[01:48:44] right out of the gate that's great

[01:48:46] the big thing that they told us

[01:48:51] is that they're going to be

[01:48:51] doing these sub patches it looks

[01:48:52] like it'll be running from

[01:48:54] November December

[01:48:56] is going to be a new currency

[01:48:58] for all kinds of stuff

[01:48:59] they're going to be

[01:49:01] upgrading

[01:49:03] Tier 2 transmog to current

[01:49:06] fidelity I guess if you want to

[01:49:09] say that there'll be some

[01:49:10] classic dungeons and time

[01:49:13] walking Blizzard Employee

[01:49:16] Service Award cosmetics will be

[01:49:18] available if you've ever seen the

[01:49:19] sword of the or the ring or the

[01:49:21] helm that they get after so many

[01:49:23] years of service there'll be some

[01:49:24] stuff going on caverns of time

[01:49:27] Chromie's going to be doing some

[01:49:27] shit there'll be some bosses

[01:49:30] new bosses that will be

[01:49:33] beaten out there in the

[01:49:34] World Shaw of Anger and Archivon

[01:49:36] will be back for us and

[01:49:38] apparently there will be

[01:49:40] some other things to come

[01:49:41] that we don't quite know about

[01:49:43] seems like they're teasing

[01:49:48] some Warcraft 3 themed

[01:49:50] back appearances which look

[01:49:53] pretty sweet but a lot of it is

[01:49:54] revolving it looks like around

[01:49:56] some old school stuff

[01:49:57] including the Black Rock Depths

[01:50:00] Raid Dungeon

[01:50:02] so we're going way back

[01:50:04] Jess they're going way back to

[01:50:07] the like the olden days

[01:50:08] and bringing it up to the

[01:50:10] future what do you think about

[01:50:11] all this yeah man like

[01:50:13] I was in the big fan of the war

[01:50:15] locked tier 2 set so when I first

[01:50:17] saw that judgment Spalder

[01:50:19] tease on Twitter I was like

[01:50:21] oh that's cool you know for people

[01:50:24] who did have a cool set

[01:50:25] yeah but the tier 2 the

[01:50:28] remade warlock tier 2 looks

[01:50:30] much better and I didn't realize

[01:50:33] how like a lot of the modern

[01:50:35] sets have these 3D parts

[01:50:38] on them to make them pop a

[01:50:40] little bit more whereas armor

[01:50:41] sets back then they were

[01:50:42] basically just like they were

[01:50:44] just painted on them the

[01:50:45] character model basically

[01:50:47] so yeah they look fantastic

[01:50:50] one thing that worries me about it

[01:50:52] though is that this patch is

[01:50:54] supposed to drop in November

[01:50:55] and it's not season 2

[01:50:58] which makes me think like damn

[01:51:00] are we going to be in season 1

[01:51:01] until 2025

[01:51:04] that's like a long season

[01:51:07] potentially

[01:51:07] they're doubt they're going to

[01:51:09] drop season 5 in I mean season 2

[01:51:11] in December they'll be on

[01:51:13] they'll be on Christmas leave then

[01:51:16] are we going to be waiting until

[01:51:18] January or February for the next season

[01:51:20] that's a long time for one season man

[01:51:23] but maybe they um

[01:51:25] I don't know maybe they think like

[01:51:27] Delves and will get people through

[01:51:29] or maybe this time around

[01:51:31] they want to get more people

[01:51:33] through to mythic because

[01:51:34] one thing that my guild's just

[01:51:36] never done is mythic

[01:51:37] because it's

[01:51:39] historically been such a step up

[01:51:41] in

[01:51:43] time investment to do mythic

[01:51:45] raiding

[01:51:46] so I don't know it would be

[01:51:47] interesting to see it play out

[01:51:48] but that's the first thing I thought

[01:51:49] it was like ooh that's a bit strange

[01:51:52] a patch in November

[01:51:54] which I would have thought

[01:51:56] would have been season 2

[01:51:57] but Blackrock Depths is

[01:51:59] one of the best dungeons

[01:52:01] they've ever made

[01:52:03] this is going to be the second

[01:52:04] time they've actually updated

[01:52:07] the raid it was a raid

[01:52:08] it was a 10 man raid

[01:52:10] back in the day

[01:52:11] or am I going to mix it with

[01:52:14] Blackrock's buyer

[01:52:16] maybe Blackrock Depths wasn't a raid

[01:52:18] or maybe it was

[01:52:19] Blackrock's buyer was a raid

[01:52:20] you could 10 man

[01:52:23] LBRS and UBRS

[01:52:25] right

[01:52:26] but maybe not Blackrock Depths

[01:52:28] but it's the second time

[01:52:29] they've given a sort of

[01:52:31] base lift

[01:52:32] I think they did it in

[01:52:33] Cataclysm as well

[01:52:35] I did some new bosses in there

[01:52:36] made it a little bit easier

[01:52:37] to navigate and stuff like that

[01:52:40] so I think it's pretty cool

[01:52:41] but at the same time

[01:52:42] I'm kind of like

[01:52:44] 10 man raid

[01:52:45] that means our raid team

[01:52:47] will be split in half

[01:52:49] maybe and then

[01:52:50] one team won't have

[01:52:52] the right composition

[01:52:53] or not an optimal

[01:52:54] composition

[01:52:55] and some people want to be

[01:52:58] in the other raid

[01:52:59] with their friends

[01:53:00] so I don't know

[01:53:01] the smaller raids

[01:53:03] make me nervous

[01:53:04] I kind of wish

[01:53:05] they'd just

[01:53:06] either gone whole hog

[01:53:07] and made it a full blown

[01:53:08] 25 man raid or something

[01:53:10] but

[01:53:12] I don't know

[01:53:12] maybe I'm just overthinking

[01:53:13] it will be cynical

[01:53:14] but

[01:53:15] it seems like they've gone all out

[01:53:17] for this 20 year anniversary celebration

[01:53:19] there's a lot of

[01:53:19] a ton of activities

[01:53:20] and I do want to collect the sets

[01:53:22] I want to get them mini pets

[01:53:23] the little pets they've announced

[01:53:25] look really cool

[01:53:26] especially for warlocks

[01:53:28] there's like a bunch of

[01:53:29] demon mini pets

[01:53:31] which I thought

[01:53:31] oh this is for me

[01:53:35] so yeah I'm going to be

[01:53:36] I'm looking forward to it man

[01:53:38] and hopefully you'll get

[01:53:40] hopefully won't just be dark ranger

[01:53:42] that gets some updates

[01:53:43] maybe Slayer will get some updates as well

[01:53:45] I mean

[01:53:46] I'm here for it baby

[01:53:47] I'm here for it

[01:53:48] and I know we talked about this too

[01:53:50] so maybe this would be the last last thing

[01:53:51] so yes 20th anniversary stuff coming

[01:53:54] keep an eye out on the actual dates

[01:53:56] and how that

[01:53:57] sub patch or whatever it is

[01:53:59] ends up rolling out

[01:54:00] you had mentioned

[01:54:01] at the same time that they did this

[01:54:03] the cast that they announced the 20th anniversary

[01:54:05] they also showed these shaman

[01:54:07] but ascended forms

[01:54:08] oh god

[01:54:09] that have like this shock

[01:54:10] and I guess people don't like

[01:54:12] I thought they were kind of cool

[01:54:13] but apparently people had

[01:54:14] hate them

[01:54:15] is that right

[01:54:17] dude

[01:54:18] they look awful man

[01:54:19] I mean

[01:54:20] they're okay

[01:54:21] if you're a troll

[01:54:24] if you're a troll shaman

[01:54:26] they kind of match

[01:54:28] the troll silhouette

[01:54:30] but if you're a tauren

[01:54:33] why are you ascending it to something skinny

[01:54:35] and small

[01:54:37] or if you're like

[01:54:38] any one of these other right

[01:54:39] if you're a dwarf

[01:54:40] why do you suddenly morph into a humanoid

[01:54:43] or like a human

[01:54:45] it just

[01:54:46] the problem with the shaman ascendant forms is

[01:54:50] that the talent was lazy

[01:54:53] from day one

[01:54:54] the whole ascendant thing

[01:54:56] is from cataclysm

[01:54:58] where in the Twilight's hammer cull

[01:55:00] were mixing with

[01:55:03] elements and making

[01:55:04] voidy elemental

[01:55:07] creatures

[01:55:08] and blizzard was like

[01:55:10] oh well we'll slap that on shaman's as a talent

[01:55:12] it didn't make a whole lot of sense

[01:55:15] even back then

[01:55:16] for shaman's to become

[01:55:19] Twilight hammer old god things

[01:55:22] frankly

[01:55:23] so I think blizzard needs to

[01:55:25] go back to the drawing board a bit on these

[01:55:27] and actually think about

[01:55:28] why are we even doing ascended

[01:55:31] models in the first place

[01:55:32] because most people were hoping they would look like

[01:55:35] dathia from

[01:55:38] Dragonflight

[01:55:38] where it's basically like

[01:55:40] you stay

[01:55:41] you look like yourself

[01:55:43] still but you have

[01:55:44] like an elemental around you or something

[01:55:48] although there used to be a glyph

[01:55:50] which instead of turning into the ascendant

[01:55:53] you just sort of

[01:55:54] got like an elemental shadow form

[01:55:56] kind of thing

[01:55:57] I don't know why they

[01:55:59] didn't think about this more

[01:56:01] but the backlash has been pretty strong

[01:56:03] and I would hope that blizzard

[01:56:04] gives people the option not to use them

[01:56:07] because right now all the metabilds

[01:56:09] have ascendant

[01:56:11] have ascendant's form in it

[01:56:12] so people ain't happy about it

[01:56:15] because you could avoid it

[01:56:17] but now you kind of can't if you want a min max

[01:56:20] maybe they can loop it into arachnophobia mode

[01:56:22] and you turn into a giant lobster

[01:56:27] kind of fits rest though shaman a bit

[01:56:33] well good luck to all you shaman out there

[01:56:35] I don't know if they tell you because

[01:56:37] they

[01:56:38] flare warriors ain't getting shit

[01:56:39] I'd take an ascended form of something again

[01:56:43] the shadowy form of some famous warrior of past

[01:56:47] turn me in a garage for all I give a shit

[01:56:49] at least it's something
