[00:01:37] Before launch, intriguing cinematic for that that came early.

[00:01:43] Couple alpha tidbits, some BlizzCon bullshit and your May trading post ratings.

[00:01:51] But first, full disclosure, you'll probably see this paying attention to the episode itself.

[00:02:12] So what's the latter part of the week and have quite frankly, a lot of plates that I'm spinning

[00:02:23] But you know, had to get something out to the people.

[00:02:27] We got to we have an important week this week for the history of this game and I

[00:02:33] owe it to you fine folks who've ridden along and come with me on this journey to at least get

[00:02:40] something out this week.

[00:02:41] So apologies ahead of time.

[00:02:43] This is not going to be a two hour 4a like last time, although even that's unusual.

[00:02:48] This one's going to be a little bit more of a speed run.

[00:02:51] So apologies up front that this will not be your usual hour ish ride.

[00:03:01] Nonetheless, it's it's been interesting as of late.

[00:03:07] You know, back when Nav was here on the show with me, we used to laugh about the fact

[00:03:15] there was some I don't know, some angry cat lady that wrote for Wowhead or something

[00:03:19] that was complained about podcasts that would talk about all this what I'm doing

[00:03:22] this week.

[00:03:23] And that's why we always made kind of a jackassie point of being like, so what did you do this

[00:03:29] week?

[00:03:30] Well, you know what I've been doing?

[00:03:32] Don't listen to show.

[00:03:34] You know what I've been doing?

[00:03:35] I've been going back to basics.

[00:03:38] You know, last time I talked about how I feel a little honestly, I feel a little

[00:03:41] lost these days.

[00:03:43] I feel a little lost with the game with no active raid team and we're all kind

[00:03:49] of scattered at the moment.

[00:03:51] And it's just it's kind of a weird space.

[00:03:55] And I've always thought about going back to basics, just playing the game.

[00:04:01] Like it sounds like such a stupid thing to say.

[00:04:03] It's such a basic concept, but so long I've been so focused as a player on just

[00:04:09] raiding like a raid.

[00:04:10] I get through the stuff.

[00:04:10] I get my shit and then I log in and I read that's the game.

[00:04:13] That's the game is what I do.

[00:04:15] And so to take a more relaxed view of things to just clear my quest log, honestly, it's been

[00:04:30] really nice catching up on quests.

[00:04:34] Quite frankly, I've had since I leveled in dragonfly.

[00:04:38] Did you know that there are way gates in the dragon Isles?

[00:04:42] Fuck.

[00:04:42] I didn't know until about four days ago, because I never finished that quest to get

[00:04:48] access to him.

[00:04:49] I knew I was getting something on my renowned levels, but I have a fucking

[00:04:54] any idea what that meant.

[00:04:56] Now I have so excited.

[00:04:58] So you know, as you folks know, been around long enough, the show is part

[00:05:03] Warcraft news.

[00:05:04] It's part self-reflected diary on my part and without just being here this

[00:05:09] week, you're getting a little bit more of that.

[00:05:12] So if you love this game as much as I do and as much as others do, but you find

[00:05:18] yourself in a position to burn out.

[00:05:21] Sometimes you just got to log out and stay logged out.

[00:05:25] You got to let that build.

[00:05:26] You got to let that heal.

[00:05:27] You got to take that rest.

[00:05:29] And I'll probably do that here myself.

[00:05:33] And then not too distant future before the war within world soul saga and

[00:05:38] everything kicks up in high gear.

[00:05:41] And we'll talk about what the timing might that look timing for that might

[00:05:44] look like here before too long.

[00:05:49] But it's also just having fun, just playing the quest, just

[00:05:56] just taking taking your time.

[00:05:57] You know, it's it's funny that the pandas Pandaria, Mr. Pandaria coming

[00:06:04] back in a fashion here and the not too distant future and the whole slow down.

[00:06:11] That concept, that idea.

[00:06:13] I was so prevalent during that era and it still speaks true today.

[00:06:19] So if you find yourself in that space right now, we're kind of in that weird

[00:06:24] in between maybe season four.

[00:06:27] Isn't your jam?

[00:06:28] Maybe you're kind of just out there.

[00:06:31] Now's a good time to take a break or maybe play a little differently than

[00:06:36] you usually do.

[00:06:38] And maybe you'll find something that you've lost.

[00:06:40] Maybe you'll find something new.

[00:06:43] But for myself, taking a look at this game from maybe an older kind of view

[00:06:49] the old days before there was raids, before there was any of that stuff,

[00:06:53] just playing the game and seeing the sights and having fun.

[00:06:56] That has been a welcome respite amongst all the other play spinning.

[00:07:00] So that's where I've been in the game.

[00:07:03] That's what I've been up to along with really enjoying outside of the game,

[00:07:09] getting back into wrestling, which I know there's a contingent of you that watch

[00:07:14] wrestling that also listen to this show.

[00:07:16] And you know that I am well versed in the days of the attitude era of

[00:07:21] and getting into it now because my son is getting into it.

[00:07:24] We watched WrestleMania.

[00:07:25] We just watched Backlash in France, which was insane.

[00:07:28] The crowd there was hot.

[00:07:30] I'm really enjoying getting back into it.

[00:07:33] It is a good time.

[00:07:34] So if you're of a mind like that, good times right now.

[00:07:42] Well, wouldn't be an episode of Unchackled Fury if I didn't have a metal album

[00:07:48] of the week for you as we have been doing in these recent,

[00:07:52] I don't know year along with doing this.

[00:07:55] I got a great one for you this week.

[00:07:57] This comes from another legend of the thrash metal scene.

[00:08:04] This album, Tempo of the Damned by Exodus.

[00:08:10] Exodus, one of the all time great Bay Area thrash metal bands.

[00:08:15] They were founded about an hour from my house near and dear to my heart.

[00:08:21] And this album, one of their, you know, they took a pretty long break.

[00:08:25] They released an album in 92 and then took a break until 2004 when Tempo of the Damned was released.

[00:08:33] But they have an amazing background.

[00:08:36] They were founded by Kirk Hammett, who you should know from Metallica.

[00:08:41] They have a phenomenal lead singer who's been there for most of the time.

[00:08:45] Steve Sousa, who has this just really unique sound that just is so fucking great for thrash.

[00:08:53] It's so aggressive and in your face.

[00:08:57] It's just fucking rad.

[00:08:59] But this album has some insanely great songs.

[00:09:03] My favorites, top three would be Blacklist, Shroud of Uren and Culling the Herd.

[00:09:09] No, this is not a friendly band or album for the, let's say, religiously affiliated.

[00:09:16] It is quite aggressive as the title Shroud of Uren might indicate to you if you know what that's

[00:09:25] referencing. Phenomenal album though, Front to Back, Put It On, Jam, Get Your Shit Out.

[00:09:34] It's a Hall of Famer in my mind and check out the rest of Exodus' catalog as well.

[00:09:41] It is truly one of the all-time great examples of Bay Area thrash metal.

[00:09:46] The scene that existed, the scene that still kind of does to this day and a great entry for them.

[00:09:52] So Temple, sorry, Tempo of the Damned by Exodus.

[00:09:57] Go out, check it out.

[00:10:02] I think this one's going to be a little bit more of a real rage topic.

[00:10:07] A little less tongue-in-cheek this time around.

[00:10:11] This is something that, yeah, I do want to talk about.

[00:10:16] So let's get into it.

[00:10:27] So there are many people, many people who work on World of Warcraft.

[00:10:35] That's an understatement. A lot of people who work on it.

[00:10:38] And there are even fewer people who are responsible for the narrative direction

[00:10:44] of Warcraft. You've had a few different teams over time, but in the span of all of World of Warcraft's

[00:10:50] existence and Warcraft as a franchise, there's really only been so many people that have been

[00:10:55] responsible for the direction that it has gone, let alone the direction of all of the Blizzard

[00:11:00] franchises under the big blue umbrella. And one of those voices, one of those individuals

[00:11:09] who's long been part of the World of Warcraft family and the Blizzard family and was for a while

[00:11:18] an employee was author Christy Golden. Christy Golden, who has authored a number of Warcraft books,

[00:11:26] Starcraft, other franchises, Star Wars, other places, quite prolific. I want to say she's got,

[00:11:32] I don't know, 50 best sellers. I mean she's been putting in the work.

[00:11:41] And quite possibly one of the nicest people I've ever met in this community and this, you know,

[00:11:50] sphere or whatever you want to call this. And back when the layoffs happened some months ago,

[00:12:00] there was a question about what was happening. But who was let go, who wasn't? And we were told

[00:12:06] that, you know, certain teams were relatively untouched and this and that and it wasn't quite

[00:12:13] clear kind of where everything landed. And we didn't find out until this past week

[00:12:20] that unfortunately Christy Golden was caught up in that layoff wave. And to make matters even worse,

[00:12:30] back to back she got laid off and her 26 year old nephew died after his battle with lung cancer.

[00:12:38] So needless to say, that's I mean just on the grand scheme of life. That is a shitty hand to be

[00:12:46] dealt. And so horrible, obviously for her, her family, everyone that's had to deal with that.

[00:12:56] But more locally, sad to see that she is no longer a day to day part of what's happening at Blizzard.

[00:13:09] And so she put out a post and she talked about, you know, essentially what happened.

[00:13:14] She's had a 25 year relationship with Blizzard and just got a miss working with the story

[00:13:19] and franchise development people. The door is open to collaborate again in the future,

[00:13:25] which is nice. I'm glad to hear that. And it sounds like she's got other things on the horizon.

[00:13:33] So that's good too. But for whoever to make whoever made this decision to make this decision

[00:13:44] to let this person go, I truly cannot understand how that's a good idea. I don't, I can't.

[00:13:55] She has been responsible for several major characters development, which I have thoroughly enjoyed

[00:14:05] and when being the most prominent her book Arthas my favorite.

[00:14:12] They recall from BlizzCon I stood in a line for what like two hours. My back was fucking dying

[00:14:20] and I was just not happy about it. But I could see that she was spending the time to talk to

[00:14:27] every single person who came to see her and she was genuine and she saw certainly the emotion

[00:14:36] when she and I talked we had a nice little moment there and connected and she understood I think

[00:14:42] how much of an impact her work has had on me and I know that I'm just one of many. So to see her

[00:14:53] so unceremoniously dumped, I just I cannot understand. I can't understand and

[00:15:03] my words kind of fail me in this moment. So to whoever made this decision to whoever decided

[00:15:14] that jumping Christie Golden was the right thing, I guess this is what I want.

[00:15:35] Snake licking dirt eating in bread over stuff ignorant blood sucking dog kissing brainless

[00:15:41] dickless hopeless heartless fat ass bug eyed stiff leg and spotting them worm headed sack of monkey

[00:15:48] shit he is. Hallelujah. Holy shit. Where's the Tylenol? Yeah, that's what I got to say.

[00:16:00] Whoever made that decision. And then the other half of this is all of the

[00:16:04] commentary I've seen you know I found out about this on Reddit which I fucking big mistake looking at

[00:16:09] that. I saw that she'd been laid off of course the comments there are just God awful and all of these

[00:16:16] fucking geniuses over there who think they know anything about how anything works over there

[00:16:21] internally what she was responsible for you know all of these things we we know some because of

[00:16:28] what she's told us but outside of that you motherfuckers don't know anything you don't

[00:16:31] know shit and so to rag on Christie and to say all these things about her you know again my words

[00:16:42] kind of fell me but here's what y'all can do with your comments I got an idea though I got an idea

[00:16:50] why don't y'all take that bitch and shove it up your ass all up in your ass

[00:16:57] that's right let's take a shovel them up your ass none of you know anything about how any of that

[00:17:05] works this is a delightful human in a space where there are few and you just you fuckers just go

[00:17:13] out there and shit on her so a big heartfelt fuck you from me to all of you that have been out

[00:17:19] there shitting all over Christie golden you know you want to be so lucky to have somebody

[00:17:24] like this who gives two shits about anything that you are involved in or anything that you like

[00:18:37] that's 10.2.7 another one of these sub patches is hitting and usually it's like oh

[00:18:45] we got the selfie cam oh no we got something we got something big this time this is this is now

[00:18:52] with I had mentioned last time that the alpha was the you know kind of the kickoff for a world soul

[00:18:59] saga or with an in game now 10.2.7 is really this is this is the story this is the beginning

[00:19:08] this is this is us shifting now from one phase to the next and so some official posts

[00:19:14] have gone out mark your calendars for the release of the next content update

[00:19:20] dragonflight dark art on May 7th so this episode's coming out on the 6th May 7th

[00:19:27] should be the next day I'm gonna be diving into the final chapter of dragonflight

[00:19:32] as it sets the stage for the upcoming expansion the war within

[00:19:36] we got a couple new quest lines heritage armor sets for draenei and trolls six new hair colors

[00:19:42] for cool tyranny humans something I am looking very much forward to is access to all dragon flight

[00:19:47] quests regardless of renown for max level characters I've got one left this is only

[00:19:53] really for one but I really don't want to have to grind out like nine more levels of

[00:19:57] dragon scale expedition reps but along with this we've kind of known for a while that there was a

[00:20:08] cinematic like an in game cinematic floating around out there because there was a an intro

[00:20:12] that we saw to the war within and it showed a larry a windrunner and she was in daloran

[00:20:19] and she was seeing some stuff and you know we're hearing these uh this vision you know

[00:20:24] getting these visions and hearing these whatever they are sounds somewhere something's going on

[00:20:32] well we at least got part of it I don't know that this is all of it that we're gonna see in

[00:20:37] game but this is at least part of it and it involves a few pretty major characters and one

[00:20:45] that we've already talked about so I'm really going to enjoy this as long as I can

[00:20:50] and these involve cat gar jaina and larry so as we want to do around here from time to time

[00:21:01] gonna go ahead and we're gonna do a little live breakdown here of this if you have not heard it

[00:21:06] if you have not watched it I recommend you do that but just in case we're gonna bust it out

[00:21:11] or right here so dark heart in game cinematic

[00:21:18] kick it off we're in daloran my people are no strangers to voices from below

[00:21:27] but this radiant song is different so that's jaina talking to cat gar and we now know that whatever

[00:21:37] this is that we're hearing from azeroth is quote radiant song this is capitalized radiant song so

[00:21:43] this seems to be the thing that we're coalescing around and it's hilarious that they still don't

[00:21:51] know where this is coming from because magne was screaming about azeroth for what two whole

[00:21:55] expansions or however long and nobody seems to be putting it together but anyway clearly

[00:22:00] distressed talking to cat gar it's different sounds apparently

[00:22:07] over in kul tiras there's the tide sages they hear something but this is different so

[00:22:13] holy new radiant song don't know what it is let's go

[00:22:17] he's being heard all across azeroth the council doesn't know what to make of it

[00:22:23] there must be someone who does i'll let you know what i find so now she just portals up straight out of

[00:22:36] there all right not sure what this is we're gonna find something i gotta go doesn't say anything to

[00:22:46] aliria doesn't acknowledge her presence in any way now you see somebody like that walking up you

[00:22:52] you can see them she's one of the greatest most powerful mages of all time she doesn't have that

[00:22:58] bad a peripheral vision so i don't know if there's heat there or something happened earlier or it's

[00:23:03] just the whole void thing because you know aliria is made friends with the void not quite sure

[00:23:10] uh but that that seemed odd to me but anyway up comes aliria and uh i think ours gonna seem

[00:23:18] not upset

[00:23:21] aliria spend too long old friend good to see you kadgar doing well

[00:23:32] as well as can be expected how's the family i haven't it's better if i keep my distance

[00:23:43] so i wanted to stop it there for two reasons one if you recall she's married to to ralian

[00:23:50] who is the regent of storm wind or whatever he is right now light infused basically immortal

[00:23:57] you know he's very much light where she's embraced the void there's a clash there i

[00:24:01] don't know if they can even physically touch each other it's a problem her son their son

[00:24:07] erotore who is a paladin i believe you know again light uh light sided so a challenge there her

[00:24:19] sister varisa also around i don't know if that means that she hasn't been talking to her sister

[00:24:25] since they had their little windrunner sister triumvirate pow wow and shadowlands but

[00:24:33] that's not looking too good so an outcast here something's going on um but it's also the voice

[00:24:40] acting that i wanted to touch on because you can hear it's not a stilted right where you like line

[00:24:47] line line you can hear when she goes she makes a little sound it's like a it's a little it's a

[00:24:57] little tick like a verbal tick and it just brings another element of life into these things in you

[00:25:08] know the animation continues to get better and better they're really blending the lines now

[00:25:14] in terms of how far i think every time i think they're like ah i don't know if they can push

[00:25:18] this much further they keep going so credit to parent gregory and all the folks over there

[00:25:24] are

[00:25:25] conflicted all area conflicted

[00:25:31] of course the void that would be

[00:25:37] actually your connection to the void is why i asked you here we still don't know with this dark heart

[00:25:45] relic is capable of but we do know it's in the hands of someone called the harbinger

[00:25:54] how do we know what the dark heart is all right so there's a piece there that we got to fill in

[00:25:58] how does he know what it is how do we know what it is we know that the harbinger is alatath

[00:26:04] waifu knife who whatever she's gonna turn i'm telling you she's gonna be horrific like

[00:26:12] as as just put a catholic in a way that is going to be terrifying and then all the people

[00:26:17] that wanted to fuck her maybe you still well i don't know maybe the technical thing is your jam but

[00:26:23] it's going to be hilarious when that turn happens but we know that she has this trinket

[00:26:29] dragon soul heart of azeroth looking thing that's got voidy power in it so

[00:26:35] we know that it's there we know that we need to find it or stop them or something

[00:26:41] uh i guess the question for me at this point is how does cadgar know how do we get to that

[00:26:45] point i sure we'll find out in the quest uh but another little piece we got to fit in there

[00:26:50] and so he's leaning on her connection to the void which she does have she has been seeing visions

[00:26:57] when the harbinger is mentioned to her it does feel like she knows something she's not saying

[00:27:03] whether she knows knows or just kind of is like hmm i feel like i know something

[00:27:08] don't know yet but there's clearly something that she's not saying that might be helpful but

[00:27:16] maybe she just needs to figure out a little bit more before she opens up

[00:27:20] the

[00:27:21] who they are and what they intend to do remains a mystery which is why i need your help

[00:27:29] to hunt down a dangerous foe we know nothing about honestly i could use the distraction

[00:27:36] same old alleria void or no void

[00:27:42] oops

[00:27:43] uh i didn't mean to

[00:28:01] this big cinematic always fun facial expressions looking great but it's it's now on the mystery is

[00:28:09] now on of the dark heart and how we figure out these early connections with the last images that we saw

[00:28:22] of

[00:28:25] a ritekron escaping and this harbinger figure and all of these pieces you know this is this is

[00:28:31] the first step of that long journey that's coming so it's really exciting to get it kicked off

[00:28:37] with a little cinematic and i'm sure there'll be more and this one maybe longer when we actually see

[00:28:42] it but good shit really excited about this one one other thing that's interesting too is this is

[00:28:50] still the old alleria this is not the alleria that's in the promo art which has got like that

[00:28:55] silver and blue uh get up her hair kind of looks different got you know kind of like a

[00:29:06] alchiria thing kind of going on here but uh she's also shooting this void bow which looks pretty

[00:29:12] rad so there's there's something something's gonna happen here we're still waiting for something but a

[00:29:17] great way to kick off and get some excitement going on 10 to 7 and the story we'll be seeing

[00:29:24] in dark heart now on top of this we're also going to get a couple of other requests that

[00:29:31] i thought were kind of interesting to look at one is the be yourself celebration where it looks like

[00:29:37] we're going to be helping ember thal choose her visage form and it's gonna be maybe a greatest hits

[00:29:44] of the dragon isles or some sort of you know journey through what we've just done uh the other

[00:29:51] is sins of the sister where a night elf is looking to bury some family at bella meth and she

[00:29:58] finds some stuff out so you gotta go talk to mouth urian at the terrace of the moon and bella

[00:30:02] meth to get that started uh the other one uh chromium val dracon for the uh visage quest so

[00:30:09] couple little little tidbits here uh but the other big thing i think everybody's excited about

[00:30:16] in 10 to 7 is the forthcoming wow remix mists of pandaria event that we talked about a few

[00:30:23] times before that will be starting may 16th and that will be the mop time running i think it's

[00:30:29] kind of what everybody's called it and there is some there are some changes there that you

[00:30:36] should look into the uh underdevelopment uh posts that they've had i know wowhead has

[00:30:42] covered this pretty extensively uh the zone ranges they've put up and uh the loot that

[00:30:49] it's going to be changed and some of the mounts and other stuff and then bronze currency is what

[00:30:56] you're going to be using so that is coming up here uh in a in what a couple weeks uh 10 days

[00:31:03] yeah i hope you folks enjoy that i don't know how much i'll be checking that out i'm sure i will

[00:31:08] a little bit uh but the really interesting thing about this to then segue into the alpha

[00:31:14] uh in the alpha seems to indicate that the mist time running is going to end august 19th

[00:31:25] and if we've all been looking at our calendars in the same way when it comes to development cycles

[00:31:31] we're all thinking end of august and september a war within launch

[00:31:39] that seems to track with about what we've all been thinking and that would be pretty great so the the

[00:31:48] wow mop remix time running whatever sounds like it's going to be around for a few months so you

[00:31:55] don't have to rush out like plunder storm which by the way i hope all of you enjoyed that uh when

[00:31:59] it happened but um you'll have a bit more time to enjoy this which is nice and a good

[00:32:06] sort of in between i think to have a nice run through pandaria if that's your jam such a great

[00:32:13] set up there uh but if you are so inclined may 16th is when it's going to start and we will be ready

[00:32:20] to go time running i'm excited other than that with the alpha in full effect

[00:32:36] you should get in if you can because right now hallow fall is available and it is as amazing

[00:32:44] as everybody says it is i just jumped in and got on my mount and flew up as high as i could go

[00:32:52] and take a look at it it's unbelievable what they've done it does feel like you are not

[00:32:57] it feels like you're outside in its own not not underground it's bonkers super cool

[00:33:05] our buddy jezz co-host jezz uh he's not here to talk about his own article but he did

[00:33:10] publish an article about some dev interviews he got to do and the one item i wanted to touch on in it is

[00:33:17] he did ask about uh the brawler's guild we talked about the brawler's guild and it looks like they're

[00:33:22] going to look to bring that back as a nevergreen feature super excited about that so uh keep your

[00:33:29] eyes open for more and last thing about the alpha there's an updated shallomane model which

[00:33:34] looks fantastic super high detail great for anduin i don't think that we will be wielding this

[00:33:40] and that's that's fine that's i've given up that if we're if i'm as a warrior holding on to this

[00:33:45] it's probably not a good sign uh so i'm gonna i'm gonna go ahead and uh let that one go but uh

[00:33:52] alpha rolling on hope you get access just keep checking your launcher the email is not reliable

[00:34:36] con before the storm he even put up a post and saying he's known for a while it's not been a well

[00:34:41] kept secret i think amongst the you know certain folks uh on high and so they put out a statement

[00:34:51] there's some articles about it some back and forth about who's responsible ultimately blizzard

[00:34:56] has confirmed that they made this decision because it just doesn't line up with what

[00:35:00] they have going on totally understandable a lot going on putting on that convention is

[00:35:06] you're a gantuan so focus on what you've got this year uh you know with war within and the diablo

[00:35:14] diablo four expansion vessel of hatred i don't forget that's still coming uh so that's that's

[00:35:21] unfortunate um in the sense that i had such an amazing time last year and getting to meet

[00:35:31] people in person and all of that i mean that's why we do it that's why blizzcon is so great to put a

[00:35:37] faces to names and see everything and feel that love and that vibe and it's it's so unique and

[00:35:42] wonderful so on one hand it's unfortunate that it won't be happening this year that this this

[00:35:49] opportunity will not occur but they it seems pretty uh uh clear that blizzcon is not gone

[00:35:56] it's just not happening this year which they have not had it even before covid there were years

[00:36:02] there was at least a year or two that were skipped so this is this is not unprecedented uh the sky is
