[00:05:16] American power metal band known as Jag Panzer which guarantee most of you don't know this

[00:05:24] band but they've been around a long, long time they were formed in 1981 and they've got

[00:05:29] a crap ton of albums out.

[00:05:31] But there was one in particular that I really like called Casting the Stones and this one's

[00:05:36] actually not two, two a while 20, 20 years old.

[00:05:40] Jesus I'm getting old.

[00:05:41] 20 years old now casting the stones and there's one song in particular The Mission 1943

[00:05:47] which is actually a song about the guns of Navarone which is one of the greatest movies

[00:05:53] of all time and never saying that.

[00:05:59] You know, for what it was at the time it holds up pretty well.

[00:08:42] of the phantasm was actually the best Batman movie of all time.

[00:08:49] And I know I could not believe I was reading these words in English and that I understood

[00:08:58] them.

[00:09:00] And so now with the man here himself I have to ask you how could you say such a thing

[00:11:00] know I agree there may be some wisdom to this because Kevin Conroy is no doubt the best Batman

[00:11:09] of all time there will never be another like him and granted he only portrayed him physically in

[00:11:15] the real world I think one time in a CW show a few years ago you know tragically passed away what

[00:11:23] a year a year ago two years ago I actually have right next to me on my wall a framed animated

[00:11:33] cell from the original animated series and it's signed by Kevin Conroy and it's just Batman with

[00:11:39] that his cape flowing behind him and it's like one of the coolest fucking things I have in life

[00:11:45] like if this house caught on fire it was it's one of like the three things I would grab because there's

[00:11:51] no way I could ever replace that and yes Mark camel unbelievable that Joker so good and mask of

[00:12:00] the phantasm when that came out that was legit because now it's a movie whenever whenever those

[00:12:06] things make a leap from the small screen to the big screen whoo it's always big like when Ninja Turtles

[00:12:12] became a real movie but yeah the white so serious memes did kind of kill it that's true with the dark

[00:13:31] wondering there's a lot less selection because the homie Rommel has turned me on to these ghosts

[00:13:39] energy drinks the brand ghost and the flavors are insane they're like five calories no sugar

[00:13:45] but they've partnered with like sour patch kids and um all right what's one of the warheads

[00:13:54] and I swear to god they must be getting like the base flavor from the company directly because it

[00:13:59] tastes exactly like you're drinking like a sour patch kids candy it's crazy that's that's

[00:15:30] see that Thursday there's going to be some developer updating like all right it's got to be it

[00:15:36] that's what's happening we'll finally find out what's going on or get some idea

[00:15:41] we're waiting and waiting and waiting and all fucking day we're waiting and finally at 5 p.m.

[00:15:47] west coast time which I can't believe was on purpose somebody had to have messed up somewhere

[00:15:52] but 5 p.m. they put out a statement and it's very short but here's what it's said

[00:15:59] mark your calendar for March 19th which should be the day after this episode drops

[00:16:04] when the 10.2.6 content update goes live with a bold new limited time event you won't want to

[00:16:12] miss out on the fun it's important to note that dragon flight season 4 will go live several weeks

[00:17:52] to roll this out because it seems like the story that's bigger right now is the lack of communication

[00:17:58] the delay in saying anything there's sort of like uber secret way that they've done this and

[00:18:03] it's annoyed the shit out of everyone do you think that this was the right way to do it or do you

[00:18:09] think that maybe they should have given us a little bit more but um maybe maybe maybe start with

[00:18:14] a little bit of tease for the folks okay well I know what it is kind of and I don't I'm not

[00:18:24] gonna leak it because I don't want to spoil their surprise yeah they've been they've encrypted it

[00:18:29] and they haven't so die a minor's can't get it or anything like that right but I know what it is

[00:18:35] via sources and stuff you know there's sources of adsense forever um the one thing I will say is

[00:18:42] that the the reason they've done it this way will make a lot of sense when it's been announced

[00:18:48] and the reason for that is it's it's gonna involve downloading the separate client I've heard

[00:18:57] oh so it's but like at least that's what I've heard I don't know if it's like I don't think it's

[00:19:08] I also don't think it's gonna be like the full well client like another version of well classic or

[00:19:14] something um but yeah so this is like it's a limited thing it's an experimental kind of thing

[00:19:25] if it works out maybe they'll do more of it but it's just something they're trying out and for

[00:19:30] what it's worth I think it sounds really cool and um a lot of service games are doing stuff

[00:19:37] like this at the moment um you know if you look at what fortnight's been doing if you look at

[00:19:43] what minecraft's been doing you're you're sort of getting an idea about where Blizzard's mentality

[00:19:51] is regarding this but I won't spoil the surprise but it's gonna be interesting to see how people

[00:19:56] react to it that's all I'll say okay yeah I think it will make sense why they've they've done it

[00:20:02] this way and maybe it's been delayed and a little bit which is why like maybe they announced it too

[00:20:07] early but one thing they have done this this content cycle is announced things early they've

[00:20:12] announced like three expansions early um try and give us sort of like uh like a solid

[00:20:19] long term roadmap about what to expect so um but yeah we'll see we'll see what happens

[00:20:25] I've been interested to see what I'm really interested to see what reactions are gonna be like

[00:20:30] do you think do you think that this will override the the the annoyance that we're seeing amongst the

[00:20:35] community right now I honestly like I'm a bit out of the loop I haven't been on Reddit or anything

[00:20:42] recently um are people annoyed about it yes a salty about it yes yes what what what what's the

[00:20:50] thought process there is it because like um anytime you're in a content drought that that's

[00:20:58] always a breeding ground for this settlement and now we've had no hard dates on season four

[00:21:09] and people have kind of done what they want how many weeks has it been oh it's been a long

[00:21:13] patch cycle hasn't it it has it's been a bit I think it's like it's been twice as long as the

[00:21:18] lot previous two um I saw a graph which um I saw a graph I can't remember the graph exactly but

[00:21:26] it's like a graph which shows the amount of mythic plus runs that have been passed through

[00:21:31] well logs I think and it's like it gives you an idea roughly of how popular each season there's

[00:21:38] been and it's season three has been the most popular which is which is actually weird for um

[00:21:44] a well expansion usually that they're really popular at the start and they get

[00:21:48] gradually less popular but there's been there was more mythic pros runs than

[00:21:52] than the previous two seasons um even at the beginning I mean obviously there's going to be

[00:21:58] more overall because it's been a longer season but I mean like the the frequency has been higher too

[00:22:03] yeah so but yeah now it's a it's a it's a drought you know I've I've kind of I haven't been playing

[00:22:10] either you know I got my I got my head of the curve and thought I'll catch up on the the old backlog

[00:22:17] now well that all plays out yeah um but this uh this minion announcement um I'm like bring me back

[00:22:26] checks from stuff out yeah it's always the hope um I think maybe maybe some people probably

[00:22:34] will be disappointed with it because of the overhype and also like the pirate flag

[00:22:42] and the pirate the priority aspect of it I don't know if it is very priority actually oh

[00:22:49] haha it might it might involve pirate factions maybe in some way okay um but yeah I don't know

[00:23:04] I can't say too much of that sport and surprise but um pirates have a route to the dragon isles

[00:23:09] and now we have to pledge to a particular ship and then we're going to sail our ships around

[00:23:14] not quite no and it's not it's not gonna be pirate ship combat it's not gonna make people walk the

[00:23:19] playing can you know I'm not going why are you spoiled everything what you did

[00:23:29] well the the one thing that interests me about this is like the fact that they are willing to do

[00:23:33] these little mini experiments um because I'm sure like if I'm sure that if this this so this

[00:23:42] pays off mm-hmm I'm sure it'll probably make it way into the main client um if it is a separate

[00:23:47] client as I've heard it might not be a separate client anymore then maybe they've changed

[00:23:51] change their change their thought process around some of that stuff but um I know that it was

[00:23:57] is going to be a separate client to download and um I'm sure like if it's if it works out maybe

[00:24:03] that would bring it to the main client or retail or or or plastic or something I don't I don't know

[00:24:09] no I don't know which timeline the ship takes place in comes to think of it you know or if

[00:24:14] or if in daily does type place in the timeline which if it is just completely separate

[00:24:19] well that's a good question because in Holly's statement the thing that I picked up on was that

[00:24:25] it said it was it would be available to both retail and classic and so yeah yeah it's like

[00:24:30] ah there's like that's that's a that's a that seems like a tell in that of like oh yeah well

[00:24:36] if it was a separate client then yeah of course it would be

[00:24:39] sorry I guess I guess um I guess the yeah but I guess maybe it's it's just like it's not

[00:24:57] saw was when they said it was going to be a limited time thing not something that was gonna

[00:25:06] to find the time to do this or else I'll never get to see it again and it's there's always

[00:25:10] this push and pull with warcraft about limited time availability on rewards where I remember

[00:25:16] not that long ago when the mage tower was brought back and people like oh I did the mage tower

[00:25:20] back then that's a prestigious thing and fuck all you people that want to get this or the you know

[00:25:25] the stuff that was only in the trading card game and somebody just dropped like 300 bucks on

[00:25:30] amount and now it's being given away on prime gaming oh you fuckers he's screaming on all this stuff

[00:25:36] there's always that push and pull between the limited time stuff and I don't know I think

[00:25:41] I've been around long enough where I just kind of accept that that's part of this type of game

[00:25:47] I don't think people will feel FOMO from this because I don't know if it's gonna have

[00:25:52] I don't know if it's gonna have tangible rewards um

[00:25:57] potentially and I think part of the reason they wouldn't do rewards is because it is limited time

[00:26:03] separate climate maybe I'm wrong like because you can't like because the

[00:26:07] a mountain shitter account why right yeah maybe maybe there will to be I don't know

[00:26:11] mounts or something I don't know that's all all that stuff is just I don't know but we'll see what

[00:27:45] going on uh so I did get through my fandom liberty playthrough and get the new ending and oh god

[00:28:48] if you recall that's right um you know slayer tree there's only so many things to go through my mind

[00:28:57] and I'm fortunate enough that finally this past week I got I gotta glimpse finally I look good

[00:29:05] look actually at the slayer tree for warriors but before I talk about my thoughts on that

[00:29:14] you were actually the first person that I saw who was was kind of happy maybe maybe even excited

[00:29:22] about his chosen favorite classes talents and in warlocks tell us about that

[00:29:32] I've seen a lot of salt about all of the hero talents so far yes I see a lot of people saying like oh

[00:29:39] god it's gonna be a covenant all over again we won't be able to pick what we actually won yeah

[00:29:44] well after we'll have to you know min max and all these kind of stuff and and people are trying

[00:29:48] to like they're trying to figure out like like whether things will be underpowered or overpowered

[00:29:53] I'm like how can you possibly figure that out when there's no there's no like you know these things

[00:29:59] are finished there's no like hard numbers on anything you know how can you possibly figure any of

[00:30:04] this stuff out you know I thought that was really interesting the way some people are trying to

[00:30:11] sort of expose reach that kind of in a way yeah but the I mean I'm kind of I guess I'm

[00:30:24] in a sense I'm being a little bit optimistic with it to some degree because like of course

[00:30:30] like yeah maybe some of them will be underpowered maybe some of them won't work properly maybe some

[00:30:36] of them will be you know completely messed up damage rotation and just be complete a complete

[00:30:42] nightmare to use and all that kind of stuff you know there's a million possibilities

[00:30:47] why could be good why could be bad it's all and so forth but from a pure flavor perspective

[00:30:53] and purely from the perspective of a you know a lifelong demonologist going back all

[00:31:00] way to vanilla you know back in the days of sacrificing my void walker and using the bug

[00:31:07] curse of shadows to get one shot people shadow ball back in the day you know all the way back when

[00:31:37] take that away again because that's happened over the years like there was there was a couple of

[00:31:41] patches where I was like oh doom gods a regular regular summon now that's great and then I'm

[00:31:46] like actually we're gonna take that away it's like a damning you know um I mean for for demonology

[00:31:52] it's always been fel god fel guard fel guard fel guard fel guard for since the money crusade when

[00:31:57] they added fel guard um so it was it was fun when they started adding like temporary demon

[00:32:04] someone's like the something you dogs and then you know other stuff you know I can't remember exactly

[00:32:11] stray waft of my head um yeah I got my damage rotation like down to like it's riding a bike but

[00:32:17] like ask me to remember what it is at the speech and I can't do it um but you know stuff like

[00:32:24] stuff like the hounds and you know even nether portal you know there was a couple of patches

[00:32:28] where nether portal was kind of viable you know but nether portal is always fun because like it's

[00:32:34] just demons spewing out constantly and sometimes you even get like malcazar which is hilarious

[00:32:41] because it's like he's basically like you summon your own personal fury warrior for a bit

[00:32:45] yeah which is great yes um but uh but yeah I though it looked really good on paper and I'm just

[00:32:53] kind of I'm taken I'm a little taken aback that people are so negative first without like

[00:33:01] being a little bit more like let's wait and see let's wait and see where it goes let's

[00:33:05] wait and see if it's good let's wait and see you know let's let's give Blizzard a little bit of

[00:33:09] faith you know um I like the fact they're doing this because it continues that trend of adding

[00:33:17] permanent features to the game rather than these borrow power mechanics which I hate borrow power so

[00:33:22] much it was all right in Legion because it was it was like there was so much attached to that in

[00:33:28] Legion there was like the the the the class quests which carried on expire patch over patch I love

[00:33:34] that stuff it felt like it felt like it was really worthwhile but then you know you got to

[00:33:41] path rather and the bar of power now is just really boring it's like oh it's just a dumb necklace

[00:33:45] you know yeah you should basically Legion again but worse you know it's it's okay now instead of

[00:33:50] instead of a million Legion weapons you get one and it's an necklace yeah right what do you do

[00:33:56] it felt like it felt like a big step backwards you know yeah um but then there's also like

[00:34:02] um but at the same time right I will the one negative that I will sort of agree with is that some

[00:34:10] of the talents seem so much more ambitious than others like some of the trees are just like passive

[00:34:18] passive passive passive passive passive passive and some of the other trees are like oh by the way I

[00:34:23] know you can summon you can summon God himself to smite your enemies and and like there's one

[00:34:29] of the one of the death night trees is like oh no mounted combat I think it's like oh my God that's

[00:34:34] amazing yeah it's amazing if I put my death night out of retirement you know I mean I know it's

[00:34:39] outdoors only I think but I think people were mumbling about that to the point where they've just

[00:34:44] make it anywhere but uh but yeah I don't know man I kind of I get it on the one hand on the one hand

[00:34:54] you know especially if you're long suffering monk for example like monks monks feel like

[00:35:02] the forgotten class for me like it's crazy how monks have basically barely changed

[00:35:09] since they launched yeah you know it's really weird how much blizzard hates monks I don't know why

[00:35:15] they're like the least play class and it's the least play class because they're the least the class

[00:35:20] that gets the least love you know it's the class that gets the the least the least the least amount of

[00:35:26] changes to you know change flavor change meta because changes sometimes you know maybe you hate

[00:35:32] the changes so you switch to a new class and um you know so on and so forth yeah but this this

[00:35:37] felt like a real opportunity for monks to get some love for just as an example or some of some

[00:35:42] of the other specs to get a bit of extra flavor and a bit of love some specs that really need it

[00:35:48] so like if you are one of those classes where it's like a desperate for a rework or desperate for

[00:35:52] some more flavor and then your options look still lame I can see why you'd be pissed in that case

[00:35:59] but like there's a demonologist who's had several expansions of being you know

[00:36:07] doing pretty well I mean the demonologist has been like high high on the damage mirrors for

[00:36:12] feels like forever now I'm like competing at the top of my guilds damage the top of my guilds

[00:36:17] damage me and I find that to be satisfying also they they change a lot with the talent rework

[00:36:23] a lot changes that are liked the set bonus has been cool the set designs have been cool I'm

[00:36:28] like I'm a happy demonologist in recent years so yeah so I guess I've got I got more reason to be

[00:36:35] optimistic than some classes maybe like monks and stuff like that but I don't know so some

[00:36:42] people are some people are way too in time man that like certain classes just like I want more

[00:36:48] I want more I want more it's like man how much more can you possibly get you know I won't name names

[00:36:55] you know class communities do you know where you are name them name them and shame them

[00:37:00] no I won't do it because I've got enough hype more like that's all we all know the

[00:37:06] priests are getting you know some extra feedback so yeah they've acknowledged that they're

[00:37:13] they've acknowledged the unhappiness with some of them but yeah let's see who goes this should be

[00:37:18] fair I mean they're asking for feedback and to your point it's theoretical at the moment because

[00:37:24] there's no no ability to actually play through this and see what this looks like in an actual

[00:37:31] practice although sounds like the alpha is right around the corner here so people probably are

[00:37:38] gonna get their hands on this before too long and yeah it's that has been the conversation that I

[00:37:45] have seen repeatedly is covenants the comparison of covenants for for that reason has been I think

[00:37:51] the most common about well I may want to do one for a flavor but I need to do another one because of

[00:37:59] output or survivability so this is what I've got to do and that's the antithesis of what this is

[00:38:05] supposed to be so yes a lot of negativity so when I saw how happy you were in our discord I was

[00:38:12] like all right happy we're a lot fuck yeah let's do this let's get a little positivity at least on

[00:38:18] this end of things and I know I've been waiting to see all right Blizzard what does Slayer mean to you

[00:38:29] because that could be in a lot of different things to a lot of different people and so when they

[00:38:34] posted this this was this was what they wrote they said a slayer has one goal the execution of their

[00:38:41] chosen target and will be tied any who stand between the slayer and their prey slayers are unrelenting

[00:38:48] in their pursuit and attacks overwhelming their foes with a furious unending onslaught of steel

[00:38:54] when a slayer has you in their sights your days are numbered yes I like that that feels that

[00:39:01] feels pretty right to me so if that if that is your your sight line okay I feel good about that

[00:39:07] and so then looking at the tree there's a lot of passivity oddly enough for a a slayer tree where

[00:39:17] yeah it's yeah your attack speed gets faster or you can execute more or execute worth more or you

[00:39:23] can hit somebody else with a blade storm which you can do now I mean for me I like it to be simple

[00:39:30] I don't need a whole bunch of extra stuff that I need to push more buttons this looks like hey I get to

[00:39:34] maybe press one button or two buttons a little more often and they do more that sounds great and

[00:39:40] I'm a little bit more mobility where charge you can remove the movement and airing stuff and like

[00:39:48] I like the avenue where this is going but the one thing that I realized the most when I was looking

[00:39:54] through this is number one there was nothing called a berserker anything so that was disappointing

[00:39:59] to there was nothing about truck nuts for your hiltz which I was kind of surprised by that although

[00:40:10] I don't need them but I but I realized then all of this is that it's about the aesthetic like

[00:40:19] what does the visual of this look like and I realized that may actually be the thing I'm more

[00:40:24] tied to than anything it more than any ability or stat boost or whatever I want to know what does this

[00:40:31] look like when I apply marks for execution is it just a you know a little debuff that pops up or do I

[00:40:42] do there's the character do something doesn't doesn't look like it's doing something does it feel

[00:40:46] like it's doing something that may I guess that's the thing I need to know so when we get to the alpha

[00:40:52] well I need to see these animations that's that's really what it is I I realized that it's less about the

[00:40:58] numbers and it's more about the aesthetic and that is 100% on target for me because I'm just not a

[00:41:04] a person but I was I was I was okay with this I felt good I know that this will likely change a little bit

[00:41:15] I feel like with warriors once they have an idea of something they kind of just stick to it there's

[00:41:19] not a whole lot of moving around I'm sure when wowhead puts out their posts that'll get some eyeballs

[00:41:24] because it usually does because it seems to be the only place anybody looks at anything anymore

[00:41:30] maybe in discord I don't know I don't know where were all the priests complaining I guess it was

[00:41:34] the forums though foreign feedback there's ready too there you go the wild subreddit does get a lot

[00:41:42] of eyeballs that is true that's true but as a fury warrior I am okay I'm happy with what I've seen

[00:41:50] so far I don't feel like there's anything here that would force me to make one decision or another

[00:41:58] I guess somebody will feel compelled to go arms if there's some numerical advantage

[00:42:07] but as a lifelong fury warrior I feel good about this so thanks Blizzard and now you can

[00:42:16] give me a shallomane transmog and then I guess I guess work it

[00:42:27] continually rolling these out seeming to get closer to an alpha which we saw on the on the chart

[00:42:41] clients or some of these kinds of things people people are paying attention to this stuff

[00:42:47] that these alpha clients have been getting loaded up and I think there's been a couple of

[00:42:50] updates to them although we can't see them yet so it's common folks it's coming and

[00:42:57] I don't know I feel like one of the two of us may get into that I don't know that I

[00:43:03] necessarily belong at the crystal table in the VIP club anymore I think I got to sit there for a hot

[00:43:11] minute last expansion but I don't know that I will be granted such privileges at this point but

[00:43:19] maybe jazz maybe with your wide reach and your sources you'll be able to sit at the crystal

[00:45:52] some dollars out of it and you're gonna see your streamers throwing out a lot of that stuff up there

[00:48:43] haven't had that drop for me yet uh but every half hour you get a chance to go out there and kill

[00:48:50] some dudes and maybe loot one of these things and if you log into hearth stone right now

[00:48:58] and then go over and log into world of warcraft you get a fiery hearth steed mount which is in my humble

[00:49:05] opinion one of the most badass mounts that we have because it's a goddamn fiery horse and

[00:49:13] you can never go wrong with a fiery looking horse and it's got big fiery wings and the whole deal

[00:49:18] and I think it was a storm out uh there is a storm out uh at one time where it's very similar to one

[00:49:25] what going on till the 22nd let's see other thing they did extended for a few days going

[00:49:29] on till March 22nd so this week and this week only uh we'll be when it ends on friday

[00:49:36] and i mentioned when i first started this piece that uh you have a special connection to hearth

[00:49:42] stone i believe kind of i mean i have i've played i've played a fair bit of hearth stone

[00:49:48] i by no means pro like this is the thing about hearth stone it's like you have to constantly play

[00:49:55] it to keep up with the matter and stuff like that yeah until they added hearth stone battlegrounds

[00:50:00] which is a lot more friendly i think if you are someone who plays it every now and then

[00:50:06] they're like hearth stone battlegrounds it's like like an auto battle you get you get given random cards

[00:50:12] and you just sort of um sat them out and try and do combos with them you don't have to build a deck

[00:50:18] you don't have to deal with any of that stuff you don't even have to buy market transactions

[00:50:21] i think all the hearth stone battleground stuff's cosmetic for the most part except for the leaders

[00:51:19] these portals are popping up every half hour that's a lot of opportunities to get at these things

[00:51:26] uh i can't do math but i believe that's like 48 opportunities in a day there's a lot so

[00:51:32] so if you don't get the stuff probably not the drop rate it's probably because you didn't

[00:51:37] stay up late enough would be would be my guess uh so that's until March 22nd so get out there have

[00:51:43] some fun and i know there's some of these articles up on wow had another places if you want to

[00:51:49] know more specifics about it but uh that is pretty much uh what you need to know uh another

[00:51:56] news item that i was interested in getting your take on since i don't know that we've necessarily

[00:52:00] talked a lot about uh race for worlds their race for world first stuff is uh big dumb gaming

[00:52:11] guild

[00:52:13] expanded and they are one of the few long running well known groups that uh engages in the race to

[00:52:23] world first stuff they're one of the a long time contenders in there uh after 10 years of run and

[00:52:28] they have disbanded and are retiring from competitive rating and there's a big post up there uh on

[00:52:35] their site and they talked about kind of the reasons you know lots of sponsorships and players

[00:52:41] and leadership issues you know constantly a lot of stuff that regular guilds have to deal with

[00:52:46] except for sponsorship stuff uh which yeah clearly most of us uh don't uh but it got into a larger

[00:52:53] discussion and i even had a brief uh twitter back and forth with uh kexman who's uh sort of a fellow

[00:53:01] bonus role i don't know used to be part of bonus role but he's out there uh in the in the gaming

[00:53:07] warcraft universe and he had mentioned how uh the loss of uh big dumb gaming is a huge blow to

[00:53:16] the race for world first and kind of uh went into more of a discussion about how blizzard needs to

[00:53:24] get into this because it's all unofficial and they need to do something and put more money into it

[00:53:30] and it's good exposure for all of these people places and things um i have always kind of had this

[00:53:42] i don't know probably not the most generous view of the race to world first but which

[00:53:48] as an organization when bonus role was warcraft radio race for world first content was their bread

[00:53:55] and butter their jam and i don't know if there's anybody here that's really doing a lot of that i

[00:53:59] think manny from for aziroth is this casting some stuff and there might be some other groups uh that

[00:54:05] are running these things but i have always felt like it's a problem actually because you only really have

[00:54:16] three two three four maybe top-end groups that practically kill themselves to race through this

[00:54:24] stuff as fast as possible the i feel like the development team is building things around this

[00:54:32] and for a group that essentially doesn't do much after the race for world first ends and

[00:54:40] interest in all of it declines so i don't know if i care as much if the race for world first

[00:54:48] doesn't have this super high visibility because i don't know that it's

[00:54:53] got the best relationship with the game and the community to begin with but as somebody who has their

[00:55:01] finger on the pulse of a lot of these high-end situations what's your take on

[00:55:08] i guess this guild disbanding the race for world first where it sits should blizzard get involved

[00:55:13] anything and everything well i think one thing you've got to understand right is that now the part

[00:55:20] of microsoft and i think one thing that a lot of long-time blizzard, active vision blizzard, fans

[00:55:29] of the high-end stuff especially esports they're gonna learn that microsoft really doesn't care

[00:55:36] about esports they don't see it as a thing and when you look at the math and the money all the

[00:55:45] lack thereof they're not wrong you know um the money isn't there to make esports viable

[00:55:53] um you know we've seen it with the overwatch league we've seen it with other things uh overwatch league

[00:55:58] sort of shut down kind of and re reorganizing something else which has less money involved you know

[00:56:06] and for all if you like there's a there's a lot of great documentaries about this but the esports

[00:56:11] thing was like it's kind of like a big bubble you know um there was a lot of money in venture capital

[00:56:16] being thrown at these these organizations which is why like you know for a time it felt like oh

[00:56:24] this is actually going to be a thing you know because there was a lot of money being thrown around

[00:56:27] but that's the thing it was all venture capital um back back in the day when interest rates

[00:56:33] and like you know not to not to get super financial about all this bullshit but um back when

[00:56:38] interest rates were really low um it was easy to just dump a load of venture capital into this kind

[00:56:44] of stuff and just be like yeah well you know we'll write it off or whatever yeah we talked about

[00:56:50] this with relation to the like the layoffs and why all that stuff happened yeah I guess so um

[00:56:57] but but now like figure the the the the the tour and have come home to roost

[00:57:02] wait no there's chicken chickens roost not cows man what am I talking about um what do cows do they

[00:57:09] grass yeah horns of come home but you the could grab yeah whatever

[00:57:15] haha that are a cover of come home to room there it is haha that's obscure um but uh and now like

[00:57:26] these venture capital firms like oh shit we we we want our money back now and like all

[00:57:31] these esports firms and are going bust and all these like advertising sponsorship firms that

[00:57:37] specializing in esports though they're going bust and as a sort of cascading knock on effect

[00:57:43] across the whole these sports the whole idea of esports frankly the whole idea of it the very

[00:57:48] concept of esports so you're gonna see Microsoft pump less money into it because they don't think it

[00:57:55] makes a lot of sense and you're gonna see venture capital dry up uh which means sponsorship

[00:58:00] dries up which means guilds that are based on sponsorship they're probably gonna pack up and

[00:58:05] you're gonna see less fuel fuel and fewer fuel guilds are gonna be of a mindset where

[00:58:11] it's like oh well this is actually viable for us to do um it's gonna just sort of decrease

[00:58:17] over time and to a point where there's just not a lot of people left doing it you know

[00:58:23] which is kind of sad and i know you say like it's a double-edged sword though because you you

[00:58:28] talked about how um the devs have to basically mythic pluses pretty much designed around the

[00:58:35] rice to earth first and not mythic plus sorry mythic mythic rating is designed initially at least

[00:58:41] around the world rice to earth first and then over time they gradually nerf the rice to um

[00:58:49] they gradually nerf um the raids uh uh uh the mythic raids to accommodate regular mythic

[00:58:57] raiders and then they gradually nerfed them even more to accommodate less than regular mythic

[00:59:02] raiders you know so you get there's almost like a live ops component to the rice to earth first

[00:59:09] because they nerfed things almost in real time especially if there's bugs or something or

[00:59:14] an exploits discovered because they that they will hardcore they will test that shit hard core to

[00:59:20] figure out like you know ways of breaking things you know um stuff like that and we've seen it happen

[00:59:27] time and time again where there's these controversies because it's something's been broken and whatever

[00:59:32] so there is a dev cost involved with regards to that too however at the same time whenever the

[00:59:40] race to world first is happening world of warcraft ends up on the top spot top spot of twitch which is

[00:59:47] an enormous amount of marketing you know it's it's and it's you know the visibility when you're

[00:59:52] at the top of twitch is a huge amount of marketing and you know these these sort of influential types

[00:59:58] and the influencers who play the game and you know love the game and stuff like that they influence

[01:00:05] people to play and try it out and stuff in oftentimes when you know regular marketing won't work

[01:00:12] and or press don't want to play it because it's chicken and egg you know um I give like just

[01:00:18] speaking of myself as press like it's hard to make money covering world of warcraft because um

[01:00:24] you know the the the community so um the community there's so mature

[01:00:31] they've they've got their specific places they like to get the information like wow head or

[01:00:35] reddit or whatever all the discord even so like it's absolutely pointless for regular legacy press

[01:00:40] to cover world of warcraft unless you're covering it from the angle of like for new players you know

[01:00:46] so like one of my articles which is like should you play world of warcraft in 2024 that's like one

[01:00:50] of my highest traffic articles um yeah it is because like people google people google that like and I

[01:00:58] keep it updated for every patch and stuff like that and there's no one else really bothering to do

[01:01:02] that but beyond that there's just no money to be made covering that game so the stuff like twitch

[01:01:07] like the less than traditional marketing cycle um it's like uh it's a huge benefit to the game I

[01:01:15] think um it'd be more of a benefit if the if the new player experience was good which arguably it ain't

[01:01:23] but you know it's um do you do yeah i can i kind of see the pros on cons of it i guess

[01:01:28] do you notice like a correlation between when like let's say race for world first is happening

[01:01:34] and it's big time on twitch and it's you know up in the higher ranks of viewership to

[01:01:41] the article hits that you get is there a direct correlation between that kind of traffic

[01:01:47] not not that i've noticed but i haven't really considered looking so maybe i'm

[01:01:53] maybe i'm an idiot you know i should probably do my job and actually check that um but there's definitely like

[01:02:00] uh i'm sure blizzard notices um an uptick which is why that keep doing it is why they're kept

[01:02:06] it going you know that clearly this there's a benefit that they they can tangibly measure or i don't

[01:02:11] think they're bothered doing it um you know so that's problem uh so i think it is an issue when these big

[01:02:47] hard work oh yeah um i find i find heroic reading to be hard work and it's yeah it's i remember back

[01:02:55] in the day when i was doing like it played i'd done like server first for like two patch cycles

[01:03:03] and that was like ice crown and old war like and i was writing like seven days a week at that point

[01:03:11] i was unemployed so it worked but like there's just no way i could ever do that now there's just no way

[01:03:17] you know um so i've got a huge amount of respect for people that do read that hard core but it's

[01:03:22] just not sustainable way to play the game i feel like you know no and that's why i'm sure

[01:03:28] the sponsorships are important because then you're able to you know get you're out of

[01:03:32] to pay for you like a job yeah and you can you can pay for people's time and do all that kind

[01:03:37] of stuff and yeah i don't want to i don't want anybody to have the impression that i'm sliding skill

[01:03:44] or dedication like the ability to sit and focus and do just that activity at that level is

[01:03:52] it's incredible like i'm not gonna sell anybody short and i think part of the issue that i have is

[01:03:58] is those groups are so limited i feel like it's the same people all the time and it just i don't

[01:04:02] know it gets boring and it shouldn't be let alone the game tuning and everything else and then

[01:04:08] you know it's endemic of every group and i said many times on this show i have my own ego problems but

[01:04:15] seeing some of the individuals that come out of these groups and the way that they sort of

[01:04:22] lured themselves over the community or behave in public or other places it also does not

[01:04:28] necessarily leave a good taste to my mouth so those are like i mean you know if it took some of

[01:04:34] these folks down a peg i don't know that i would be upset to watch that but that's just my own

[01:04:40] shitty personal human problem so yeah it's it's always interesting to see when these big guilds

[01:04:49] go down and i'm sure others will take their place because you're right if Blizzard sees value in

[01:04:55] having this still occur then we will undoubtedly see this continue and war within in the world

[01:05:03] soul saga uh now that you're on this episode one of the things that i wanted to get your take on

[01:05:13] because there's nobody better than you to talk about this one the oblo 4 is now on game pass and now

[01:05:23] this is not it the oblo podcast i know this world will work but it's in the same family and this has

[01:05:30] i believe if i understand this correctly huge ramifications on the future of Blizzard titles and

[01:05:38] world of warcraft and some things that people have been asking for and kind of expect

[01:05:43] and now we're seeing these things start to happen so for folks that maybe aren't as tied in with

[01:05:50] the Microsoft side of things what does this mean to have Diablo 4 on game pass and then the next step

[01:05:57] is what does that then mean potentially world of warcraft well microsoft's all about game pass

[01:06:05] they're trying to change they're basically trying to change the industry which is what what is

[01:06:09] game pass so game passes subscription service it's like it's anologous to Netflix there you go you pay

[01:06:18] ten dollars a month at the minimum tier fifteen dollars a month for the maximum tier you get hundreds

[01:06:24] of games on pc and xbox consoles right now this means that instead of paying seventy dollars for

[01:06:31] but for Diablo you pay fifteen dollars a month and get Diablo 4 for Xbox or PC on the Microsoft store

[01:06:42] now there's some caveats to that first of all it's not the same version it's very much the

[01:06:49] the windows store version so people who don't like the windows store mox of store whatever they call it

[01:06:54] these days thank you very happy about that the other caveat is that again if you don't if you stop

[01:07:01] paying fifteen pound a month fifteen dollars a month you lose access to the game but you don't

[01:07:06] lose your side progress because it's still all goes through battle net okay so your side

[01:07:10] progress will stay forever whatever and that's so good right so then so what does it mean really for

[01:07:22] for world of warcraft players to be honest nothing it doesn't mean anything for world of warcraft

[01:07:28] players right now as a today this minute however it may mean things down the line and not necessarily

[01:07:35] because a lot a lot of Xbox fans asked me this a lot and one of them one of the things I

[01:07:38] asked me when's world of warcraft coming to console for one thing yeah I believe I believe it

[01:07:43] will come to console eventually but Blizzard's gonna have to really analyze what that looks like because

[01:07:52] the game revolves around add-ons today and the difficulty of the game really does revolve around

[01:07:58] having you know damage meters and stuff like that and a mouse in keyboard I honestly don't know

[01:08:03] how I would be able to play disc with the controller yeah I don't know yeah like I play I play

[01:08:10] I basically play demonology and discipline as my two mind specs these days and I have no I can't

[01:08:18] even get my head around how I'd be able to play disc with um with uh with um a controller like

[01:08:26] I can barely play it with the mouse in keyboard practically I'm like oh you got mouse over macros

[01:08:32] and yeah I know this kind of stuff and it's just like disc like gives me a headache like I have to

[01:08:36] play a small burst so like how do you reconcile that for a controller I don't know but um

[01:08:42] you know it's it's mostly like toggles in party members and stuff like that like how would they

[01:08:47] handle that might I mean the other option there is like just make it so you have to play it with

[01:08:51] the mouse in keyboard and you can play games with mouse in keyboard on Xbox you play Edge of Empires

[01:08:55] on Xbox on most keyboard but um but yeah I don't know that's that's a different thing in

[01:09:01] Thailand yeah but one thing people ask me really about is will the subscription be included in

[01:09:06] game pass so can I get game pass and will the warcraft at the same time uh huh and I think the answer

[01:09:10] to that is quantously no and that's because will the warcraft is a mature business model with a cash

[01:09:17] flow model that absolutely needs that subscription right and it's not really fact it's not really

[01:09:27] factored into game pass that that it will also be something that funds world of warcraft you know

[01:09:34] they're two separate business models which is why I don't think you'll ever see I don't think

[01:09:38] you'll ever see well in game pass well one thing I do think you might see is perks and benefits and

[01:09:45] bonuses as part of game pass full world of warcraft because right now today if you're on Amazon Prime

[01:09:52] subscriber every month you can get amount a pet or some random bullshit for world of warcraft

[01:09:58] right the average today that is on a contractual basis and that contract with Amazon that will

[01:10:04] expire riots contract with Amazon Prime Gaming is about to expire and I think riots gonna start

[01:10:10] putting those benefits into game pass because Microsoft and Riot have really big deal right now where

[01:10:16] if you do have game pass you get every single character for legal legends it's like that's a huge deal

[01:10:22] so like one thing I've heard that they're doing for example and I don't know I don't think this is

[01:10:27] out there but I'm just gonna share anyway so oh well someone gets mad at me let's do it right

[01:10:33] it's I've heard that heroes of the storm you'll be able to play all heroes of storm characters

[01:10:40] if you've got game pass for example you know and that's kind of like an obvious thing to do yeah

[01:10:46] they're doing it for legal legends then why why wouldn't they do it for their own it's a good

[01:10:50] lateral yeah it's a good lateral so but also these things like hardstone card packs they could do

[01:10:56] if you go to game pass ultimate maybe you get like so many hardstone card packs a month which is

[01:11:00] something they do with Amazon Prime today and you know other things like that you know so I think

[01:11:05] like there will be benefits to subscribe to world of warcraft um scream to game pass for world of

[01:11:10] warcraft lies then line who knows maybe that could include well classic in game pass just well

[01:11:17] classic but if you want retail then you still have to get this the proper subscription and maybe get

[01:11:23] the um maybe get this the full blown subscription and maybe get um you know the expansions as well

[01:11:29] and stuff like that well maybe maybe even like they include the expansions in game pass or something

[01:11:35] but I think wow wow's live ops really does need that specific subscription so um yeah I don't

[01:11:42] think wow subscription will go away but I do think there'll be benefits for game pass players

[01:11:46] that underlined interesting yeah I mean clearly there's gonna be something I mean they're gonna

[01:11:52] they're gonna be quiet about it until it hits but if they did something like that with heroes of

[01:11:56] the storm that seems like the right kind of fit for that relationship and yeah it's somebody

[01:12:04] coming into the Microsoft sphere and only sort of paying attention to it on the periphery it's

[01:12:08] interesting to watch this marriage now begin to play out in real and when the obel-for was announced

[01:12:16] on game pass Pete I just saw people losing their shit all over the place about how excited they

[01:12:20] were and how happy they were you know Nav or more go host of this show Navox and uh you know my

[01:12:26] friend he has always wanted to see world of warcraft on you know Xbox or console or game pass

[01:12:34] for something and I know he couldn't have been the only one that's been begging for this all these

[01:12:39] years so yeah it seems like a first step into a larger world yeah there was fun of fancy 14

[01:12:47] and rum reborn is about to launch on Xbox that is a game that you can you can play on sort of

[01:12:53] controller okay at least some classes pretty decently but you know it's it's also very easy you know

[01:12:59] it's a very very easy game compared to world of all craft I would say maybe the the way I play

[01:13:07] warcraft like you know mythic plus and heroic raids I don't feel like I don't feel like you'd be

[01:13:13] able to do that with controller like you can fun fancy but even like fun of fancy's own game

[01:13:18] directors admitting that he thinks fun of fancy forings become too easy and he wants to make it

[01:13:24] he wants to add friction to the game or something I don't know we'll say how that looks but um

[01:13:31] yeah I think it's going to be an interesting path ahead for for the whole Xbox world of

[01:13:37] the warcraft blizzard Diablo paradigm like will we see hearthstone on Xbox I don't see why not

[01:13:45] you know a unity game easy pop potentially could we see you know other classic blizzard games hit

[01:13:53] game pass I think so I mean there's you know they did that blizzard classic collection a while

[01:13:58] ago I think you could see like warcraft I think you will see warcraft one two and three on game pass

[01:14:04] I think for definite like any of the retail games yeah I think those would be on game pass but anything

[01:14:10] that requires live ops I don't think you'll see those in game pass unless they have um you know

[01:14:20] specific extra things on top of it like with Diablo Diablo the live ops is funded by the skins

[01:14:35] is that the first person shooter starcraft 3 will be a game pass exclusive that's

[01:14:53] Microsoft loves strategy games they love strategy games so you know Age of Empires 2 is one
