[00:01:20] Unchackled Fury. I'm your host Berzerker and I'm

[00:01:24] running solo this week as Mr. Jez Corden is out on assignment, you know, working man.

[00:01:33] So on this episode we're talking Kiss Cams, Hero Talents, Literary Updates, the legacy of one

[00:01:41] Steve De Nuser and finally, finally finally, the most trading post ratings that you all seem to love.

[00:01:50] But first, in the last episode I left off with a note about a friend of ours from our

[00:02:03] raid team from the Warcraft community who had passed several months ago and my leadership team and

[00:02:11] I were heading out to Colorado to see his family and to see other members of our team and to get

[00:02:20] together and remember this great man that was Rasklin. And you never know, you never know what

[00:02:30] you're gonna get when you meet these internet folks in person. It's one of the reasons why Blizzconn is

[00:02:39] it's fun but it's a little crazy because like, you know, you know, you don't know what you're gonna get.

[00:02:45] I would say for the most part and I'm not the one to judge anybody that has met me I guess

[00:02:51] would be the better judge of this is I feel like for the most part what you get on here is who I am

[00:02:57] in person might be a little more amplified so just speak on the podcast because I think that serves

[00:03:05] a bit of a purpose but I like the thing for the most part what you see is what you get and

[00:03:13] I was so pleasantly surprised to not only see the folks that I know but to meet folks in person who

[00:03:21] have known through Warcraft but mainly over discordant in game for years. And to meet them and to

[00:03:29] find out, you know that they're such great people as well. It was it was a sad event and the purpose

[00:03:40] for all of us getting together was sad but to get together with our real life selves these people

[00:03:48] that I've known for years one in particular I haven't seen and God damn near a decade not to see

[00:03:54] all these folks in person if even for a day even for a few hours to go out and have dinner and

[00:04:01] to tell stories and all of that it's just this community really is something special. And

[00:04:10] I also got to learn a lot about the man that we lost and find out that he was every bit as amazing

[00:04:17] as we had figured super smart well read Jack of all trades just what an incredible human being and

[00:04:26] in a way sorry that we did not get to know all of these things about him while he was still alive

[00:04:33] to celebrate those things with him but it was it was fantastic and then of course after that

[00:04:42] got together with friend of the show Ali and her husband sniper and we went out and to you know

[00:04:51] get together and get some drinks and hit up this awesome arcade bar out there in your Denver

[00:04:57] and went to another place for an excellent excellent burger that I made myself in a you know

[00:05:06] here's all the things that I want on it called of course had to call it the berserker I don't know

[00:05:10] they'll put it on their menu I doubted but it was delicious and getting to see them as well

[00:05:15] just great people you know honest to goodness down earth folks no bullshit it's a welcome a welcome

[00:05:27] respite um you know dealing with these sorts of real life situations of course as soon as I got

[00:05:34] back from all this travel unfortunately my last grandparent my last grandparent my grandmother passed away

[00:05:42] and after 91 years and very full years she was a very practical person so she would be you know more

[00:05:52] or less fine if she understood the situation um then she lived a very full life and left us with

[00:05:58] a hell of a legacy and so dealing with that throughout this week and moving all the stuff out of her

[00:06:05] place yesterday and moving it to essentially a storage spot um makes for long days

[00:06:12] and once again you know a reminder of how much you do enjoy these good times with good people

[00:06:20] and warcraft hopefully being a good refuge for all of us in those moment hell I just jumped on a

[00:06:26] little bit earlier I did not realize it just as a regular ass human warrior I could play through

[00:06:32] uh the Minari Elrida quest line and I just started it uh earlier today I'm like oh this is fantastic

[00:06:39] you know it's just it's all that kind of stuff maybe not even the big huge storyline deals even

[00:06:46] just some of the side stuff that you find in warcraft it's just completely forget about all the other

[00:06:50] bullshit going on in the world and find myself continually appreciative of this time of place

[00:06:58] and all of you out there that makes this community so great and for you you find community you

[00:07:06] I have an all-time epic old school metal classic for you released on July 24th 1990 your metal album

[00:07:17] of the week is Cowboys From Hell by the legendary Pantera Pantera who was huge in the 90s unfortunately

[00:07:30] very tragic the lead guitarist uh Darrell Abbott Dineback Darrell he was killed

[00:07:39] there went there were playing a concert and a guy like we're looking at a bar and a guy shot him

[00:07:43] he killed him and was very sad and his brother died just a few years ago very famous stories about

[00:07:49] Dimes funeral Eddie Van Halen buried him with one of his guitars one of his famous ones and the

[00:07:56] caskets like full of uh like crowned royals like it's gonna break all the stuff trying to get the

[00:08:03] casket in the ground like epic dudes and now they're back out on tour favorite of this show

[00:08:10] and personal hero Zach Wilde stepping in for Dime who was his uh very good friend

[00:08:18] just they're back out rolling uh but Cowboys From Hell you know it kind of forget

[00:08:23] this idea how old this album is I mean 1990 we think about back then just

[00:08:30] this hitting the landscape unbelievable and the tracks here some epic epic metal classic

[00:08:39] metal tracks I mean this is stuff that's influenced people I may through today you know Cowboys

[00:08:44] From Hell coming out uh right away but uh some of my favorites and some of the more popular ones

[00:08:49] as well cemetery gates domination which that's one that I always blast at the old ladies in front

[00:08:55] of my grocery store and the art of shredding phenomenal work and think about 1990 and sort of where

[00:09:05] metal was coming out Metallica shit they haven't even put out I believe they hadn't even put out

[00:09:10] the black album this when they said now when you look this up if you look at the album art it's not

[00:09:19] good it's it's probably the worst photoshop I have ever seen on any album ever it's just nobody

[00:09:29] looks right Phil and Selmo looks like he's in another universe jump trying to jump on a bar but

[00:09:34] it looks wrong um dime shredding but you can tell it just somebody clipped this out and laid it

[00:09:43] down and then just took a photo of it or something it's awful it's got awful but that's you know

[00:09:48] listen this 1990 that's how that goes so that is your metal album of the week a classic a true

[00:09:57] classic take it with you wherever you go it's good in every situation uh cannot go wrong

[00:10:05] so having just traveled listen if you travel you got something to raise about you know I do

[00:10:11] so let's go

[00:10:23] if you've seen me in person some people have you know that I am not a small person

[00:10:34] I'd rather this of my ever fluctuating weight being 6-1 you know taller than the average person

[00:10:42] uh but I'm definitely a wider shoulder to shoulder than the average person and uh yeah

[00:10:47] definitely carrying definitely carry in some mass with me these days uh in fact pretty much all days

[00:10:55] and so as you can imagine the flying is uh it's a challenge it's a challenge

[00:11:04] but I always try to be respectful of the people around me I recognize that you know if you're sitting

[00:11:10] next to me we're probably gonna have to figure out the arm rest situation I always try to sit on

[00:11:14] the end I never sit in the middle it's usually the windows so I can press up against the wall

[00:11:18] of the airplane and kind of get out of the way um leg room no most of the time nonexistent

[00:11:27] but I try to be respectful I try to recognize that there are not only people

[00:11:34] to my left until my right maybe but perhaps there might be people behind me might be people behind me

[00:11:44] because if there is one thing that drives me crazy on a plane being a big dude is when the person

[00:11:52] in front of me says you know what fuck it I'm just gonna throw this seat back as far as it'll go

[00:11:59] I don't give a shit who or what is behind me or what they're doing I'm just gonna throw it back

[00:12:04] bang away and just keep bouncing on it to see if I can get even more of my room to go back even

[00:12:12] more space even more lean fuck that person behind me I don't care

[00:12:17] drives me crazy because when you already are in a situation where extra room is at a premium

[00:12:26] having some monkey-ass motherfucker bouncing on a chair throwing all the stuff off your little

[00:12:33] tray you can't see anything if there was a little TV on the back of it it just have a little god damn

[00:12:41] common courtesy lean it back a little bit lean it back a little bit that's fine but slamming it back

[00:12:46] all the way no warning not even like you know like listen turn around ask the person by say okay

[00:12:51] is it cool finally in this back a little bit a little courtesy goes along fucking way people

[00:12:56] a little goes a long way and there is only one way that I found to get out of this which is

[00:13:01] to make sure that I upgrade my seat that's it I have to spend extra money to get away from it

[00:13:08] and it is a first world problem no doubt but it's it's the inconsiderate folks that just slam

[00:13:17] that fucker back and keep slamming it and they're like oh it won't go back for I don't know

[00:13:22] I'm gonna keep doing now I'm gonna go up now I'm gonna go back I'm gonna go up now I'm gonna go

[00:13:25] back I'm gonna bang back those type of people they just need to be thrown out the airlock that's

[00:13:37] that's it I think that might be the only solution so you know if you're traveling if you're on a

[00:13:41] flight you're on a plane just just have a little courtesy for the people around you please

[00:13:48] sit how little courtesy goes a long way so what that being said definitely got some news we want to

[00:13:57] touch on this week so let's get into it

[00:14:06] so the last episode kind of ran out of time with Jizz and so I wanted to just rewind

[00:14:21] just a touch because we're just spot now where seeds of renewal has been out for a little bit

[00:14:28] things have definitely quieted down you know news has slowed coming out of the layoff news you

[00:14:34] know you don't want to announce anything big on the heels of that because you just look completely

[00:14:38] shitty so we're still kind of waiting to see when things are coming next we have a roadmap they did

[00:14:46] give us a 2024 roadmap and in the wake of the layoffs Holly Longdale did put out a long post about

[00:14:58] you know hey listen we're committed to this roadmap this is what we are doing you know hard

[00:15:03] heartfelt feelings to the community and you know love all you guys and hugs and all that stuff

[00:15:09] so we know roughly when things are coming but it's been a little a little dry on the news side but

[00:15:16] what we do know is that the next thing coming is supposed to be this sub patch half patch mini patch

[00:15:24] 10.2.6 which is marked on the roadmap with just a skull and crossbones flag which seems to

[00:15:32] indicate everybody's mind something piracy and in her little write-up Holly said this about that

[00:15:44] upcoming patch said for the 10.2.6 patch for Dragonflight we created what we think is a unique

[00:15:50] event inspired by past musings from the community so pirate pvp something my guess we can say that it is

[00:16:01] open to anyone with a wild subscription if they want to participate classic or dragonflight players

[00:16:08] that's all we're going to say sorry not sorry or goal is to continue to keep it secret and keep

[00:16:14] it safe the speculation is great we watched the reaction to the surprises and season of discovery

[00:16:19] and thought we try a similar but different approach dragonflight interesting this means there will be

[00:16:27] no ptr for a portion of the next content update as we have traditionally done what we can say is

[00:16:34] that it will be coming in March finer point the update will also include everything that's needed

[00:16:40] for dragonflight season four but will be hidden around and parenthetical after the launch of the

[00:16:46] update we will make season four available for testing on a 10.2.6 ptr before it goes live why are

[00:16:53] we doing this we like the idea of releasing content that has some surprises and isn't data

[00:16:58] mind or revealed in advance god bless you Holly this while I love you so much we also like to see

[00:17:04] the joy the community gets out of uncovering it all together as they jump as they all jump into play

[00:17:09] we look forward to seeing if the community likes this type of surprise and look forward to hearing

[00:17:22] and could be a bit bumpy though we are doing everything we can to ensure success

[00:17:48] why both is it because there's something that's going to happen to both

[00:17:56] something that somehow don't know classic or dragonflight players that seems to be a big tip of

[00:18:06] that to me it functionally mechanically why would it matter if you had a classic or dragonflight

[00:18:15] sub why would it matter

[00:18:21] something separate perhaps interesting interesting whatever it is find out a march which is

[00:18:33] pretty much in a week so this lol should not last for long and whatever it is hopefully it's super awesome

[00:18:45] uh or bond or cool or whatever it is because yeah the droughts are never fun we knew it was going to be

[00:18:52] a little bit of a lol here and that's where we are so interesting wording on this and appreciate

[00:18:59] they're keeping it hidden but um whatever it is this this does seem like it looks like it would be

[00:19:06] something different altogether and whatever that materializes as hmm I guess we'll see

[00:19:16] one other thing that came out of Caesar renewal that I wanted to mention if you haven't seen it

[00:19:22] I thought it was pretty cool that talked about before the story of Caesar renewal and what had happened

[00:19:28] and there was the big cutscene with Malfurion and T'Ronda and she runs and jumps in his arms

[00:19:35] and they swing and kiss and it's a whole it's a whole thing well it was even more a whole thing than

[00:19:41] we realized because the world of Warcraft twitter account put out one of their building Azeroth videos

[00:19:51] about two and a half minute video with Terran and with Terran Gregory and another one of the cinematic

[00:19:59] leads who talk about essentially how they put all of this together and that it required a whole

[00:20:09] different level of tech in order to make the sort of the camera rigging and everything else to make

[00:20:15] that kiss look real and to look you know more realistic in that way where it wasn't just a bunch of

[00:20:22] characters colliding together and clipping through each other and looking weird and apparently there

[00:20:28] was quite a bit of work that goes into building something like this so always great to hear Terran

[00:20:34] talk about how they do what they do but this in particular it's it was a great moment you know

[00:20:41] if you've been playing this game forever if you've been around for the 20 years to see

[00:20:46] you know these two characters come together have their moment uh swing around have their big kiss

[00:20:52] how you know they feel good moment what the fuck why not we we're about to head into some shit folks

[00:20:59] the world soul saga is gonna be big and heavy and major and you know it's these kinds of light

[00:21:06] moments i'm just gonna try to enjoy because they're gonna be few and far between for the next

[00:21:11] handful of years uh but to get to see a little bit more of the inside of how they do it with their

[00:21:18] sort of sketch drawings and the little pre animation thing that they do always great to see that

[00:21:24] and a lot of fun so um if you haven't seen it uh oh I think they released this back on

[00:21:31] valentine's day but the world of warcraft twitter count the seas of renewal

[00:21:39] uh what they call it the kiss i don't know kiss cam

[00:21:44] kiss cam technology video uh it's out there so check it out on that note speaking of story

[00:21:54] so we go water there for the work of man um we have an update

[00:22:04] at all stevee denuser who as we talked about last time just sort of up and disappeared

[00:22:13] least for us least on our side that uh we found out in november only he's left blizzard and

[00:22:21] there was no statement there was no hoopla nobody said anything although it is now become

[00:22:27] painfully obvious that there were a lot of people who knew but just didn't say anything

[00:22:34] well it was pc gamer who ultimately was the winner in the steve denuser

[00:22:43] interview contest because they were the ones who got to ask him about what exactly

[00:22:51] happened what were the reasons for his departure and there's been a lot of guesses you know

[00:22:56] that he got forced out or that it was he knew something about the layoffs or you know there was

[00:23:01] some other thing you know people didn't like the story and they blamed him for it and all kinds of

[00:23:07] reasons right you know he was too much of a savanna simp all these things you know he put himself

[00:23:17] in the stories and the thought of uh essentially what he's attributing it to

[00:23:25] seems like on the outside a couple of things one been working on the same thing a long time did not

[00:23:33] feel like you wanted to keep going wanted to try something new he's been working on the same game for

[00:23:37] eight years and that was long enough other item as has been talked about many times in the past

[00:23:45] the return to office protocol that blizzard has been essentially enacting and he does not live in

[00:23:55] California he doesn't live in Irvine doesn't live in California doesn't even live anywhere in

[00:23:59] the west as i understand he lives like in Minnesota or something so being able to continue

[00:24:06] teleworking that was that was also and this for my personal experience is probably one of the

[00:24:12] biggest reasons why you would not want to continue on because shriek at your life and you're all set

[00:24:20] there and moving to California is an expensive proposition if you were here and you leave it's

[00:24:26] i think it's even harder to come back so that was the reason from the outside that's that's the

[00:24:33] sort of official thing and uh i thought wowhead uh to give them credit it a fairly decent little

[00:24:39] write-up of things that he touched in his time uh working on world of warcraft the marksmanship hunter

[00:24:46] artifact questline in leagen some of the original allied race quests the old god whispers that

[00:24:53] i know people really love lots of in game books uh the stay a while in this inscripts and of course

[00:24:58] the nathanos and sobanis relationship which you know he put a lot of his heart and soul in himself into

[00:25:06] perhaps but now of course we're also i don't know i've noticed people kind of turning on dragon flight

[00:25:18] over recent months and like oh i don't know the writing really is bad

[00:25:23] this is not good after celebrating dragonflight and maybe it's the comparison to i don't know the

[00:25:31] expansion that shall not be named chattelands but there is definitely a a review that is happening uh

[00:25:42] analysis um you know uh uh what they call it oh my brain is failing me now you know an autopsy

[00:25:53] the news are era you know one of these kinds of things where

[00:25:56] what was he responsible for what did he do and there's a lot of videos out there and a lot of

[00:26:01] foreign posts and twitter posts and there's opinions ranging all over the place for me is the worst

[00:26:07] thing that since you know the black plague to you know maybe it wasn't that bad

[00:26:15] one of the i think better

[00:26:19] synopsis and deep dives into this uh was by tally us and evatel tally uson who admits fully

[00:26:27] that they knew they've known for months they have pretty good sources over there blizzard and

[00:26:33] they wanted to respect steves privacy or whatever said in saying anything which you know good on them

[00:26:43] because i don't know too many people that would have sat on that knowledge that steve denoos

[00:26:47] of the lead narrative guy was out so and in it uh in the video that uh tally uson and evatel put out

[00:26:54] and tally uson does the talking here about the things that steve denoos was responsible for most

[00:27:02] likely given the timelines and what he was or was not guilty of and i would i would say that for

[00:27:09] the most part i think my opinions fall very much in line with what was talked about there where

[00:27:16] we know very well about the afraziabi problems and how he just wanted these holy shit moments

[00:27:22] and so vanus was gonna go bad and i didn't know this because i don't have a bunch of sources of blizzard

[00:27:28] but apparently the original plan was for sovanus to die at the end of bfa or at some point in bfa

[00:27:36] like she all of this was leading to her being taken out

[00:27:41] frasiaabi gets bounced and the blizzard upper echelon say no we can't kill her she's too valuable

[00:27:50] lol that's like i don't know an entity you could put on a t-shirt i guess but story folks were told

[00:27:58] you cannot kill her so whatever they had been working towards which was obvious in bfa like of course

[00:28:06] she was going bad way bad evil man and they had to make that turn to come around and like no no

[00:28:12] she's a league with something else that was a course correction that had to be made which did not

[00:28:20] sound like it was on steve and i sit there listening to this and i think to myself there's no

[00:28:27] fucking way like you come in you hand me this horse shit and then you tell me wait wait wait wait wait

[00:28:31] but this big thing that you're building to it nah i can't do that you can't do we got it we got

[00:28:35] to keep it to sell t-shirts and pins because all the little you know all the little ones that go to the

[00:28:41] the the dark moon fair at blizzcon they stand in line for nine hours for a fucking solanus pin so

[00:28:45] nope we gotta have that can't get rid of that

[00:28:50] Jesus

[00:28:53] so they have to change course head into the shadow lands which

[00:28:59] nobody liked i mean there's things to like but nobody liked the jaylor

[00:29:03] the most bummyest bum that ever bummed in bad guy land totally a denuser creation and yeah

[00:29:13] that was a big flame out

[00:29:16] um the artist thing you know i don't like it i

[00:29:22] i thought that was just disrespect but understand how some people could be cool with it

[00:29:28] the whole solanus arc i thought they ended it probably about as boil as they could have

[00:29:33] and then we headed to dragonflight where i think dragonflight is great

[00:29:37] i don't have all the problems with the writing and people like oh i'm every everybody's

[00:29:43] everybody's a fucking script supervisor now knows how these things are supposed to work

[00:29:47] it's a video game it's supposed to be a little cheesy here and they're like come on

[00:29:53] i think people being too hard on it and now it's it's a lot of this revisionist history

[00:29:58] and well you know maybe it wasn't so great all along

[00:30:01] it's a good expansion it's a fun story it's a lighter story it's more familial it's more

[00:30:07] touchy-feely like i get that and for some people they don't want that but coming out of shadow lands

[00:30:12] coming out of the pandemic coming out of the era in which we lived at that time

[00:30:16] i'll take it because we're heading back into some dark times and you need you know

[00:30:23] like the hero's journey thing right like you need the highs you need the lows

[00:30:27] this was this was a friendlier point that's a higher point so i give it to Steve

[00:30:31] apparently he's the one who pitched the whole dragonflight dragon ises adventure

[00:30:37] and i think it was a good one this is a place we've always wanted to go these are characters

[00:30:41] we wanted to see we introduced we got introduced to some fantastic new ones

[00:30:49] um

[00:30:53] you know

[00:30:55] the britichron the incarnates brock that's all him

[00:31:02] right that's all him

[00:31:05] last time i checked everybody likes that stuff

[00:31:08] so you know i think um

[00:31:15] i think i think credit where credits do on that one i think credit where credits do

[00:31:19] you know he came in at a time when

[00:31:25] things were really bad and not all of it's going to be great but i think i think he did a good job

[00:31:31] there and i got my boy back i got met him back

[00:31:40] i'm so excited for the world's whole saga but i think overall steved anuser did all right

[00:31:48] and you know would i write myself into the story is very in secret sun i might

[00:31:55] i might if i was in charge yeah fuck it

[00:32:00] would people hate it of course would it be self-serving absolutely

[00:32:05] but you know here are one of those positions why the fuck not so

[00:32:10] that in the end is the real answer

[00:32:15] steved anuser is just wanting to stay home and do something different and you know i can't fall

[00:32:22] to get out of that where you are

[00:32:32] moving on to what is coming up more with him we talked a lot about hero talents

[00:32:37] now we got to see mountain fame for warriors and a few others and let's release a blog post

[00:32:44] a few weeks ago looking at the druid hunter mage and priest hero talents

[00:32:51] the priest hero talents oracle especially turned into a really great exercise and community feedback

[00:32:57] where the community fucking hated a lot of the stuff that was in there and credit to blizzard they

[00:33:04] have already turned around and said hey we hear you people we're gonna make some changes because

[00:33:12] this is just not this is just not what we want this is not good

[00:33:17] but within that same post that they put out

[00:33:22] it talked a lot about their design philosophy which is something that you know we don't

[00:33:27] get into a whole lot we hear some stuff at blizzcon about that but you know we don't really

[00:33:33] hear a lot about here's what we wanted here's what we're thinking here here's how we're choosing

[00:33:39] these talents all of this kind of stuff and one of the things that really stuck with me is that

[00:33:49] they want to make i'm gonna read the sentence here this is what i like here is we'd like to say

[00:33:54] on the team that our goal for hero talents gameplay is for them to make you quote what you are

[00:34:00] but more what you are but more and that really is i think a solid base to come from

[00:34:14] solid base to come from and i know that there's always going to be people that parse out well if

[00:34:20] you go the down this route in these talents it's gonna punch out this much more dps so this

[00:34:26] you know much more healing or this much more survivability or whatever like there's always

[00:34:31] going to be a best scenario for a certain task it's almost impossible not to have something

[00:34:42] like that but i appreciate what they have to say here about whether they're not really trying to

[00:34:50] add a whole bunch more buttons or some kind of crazy thing they're just trying to make whatever you

[00:34:55] are more this would got me got me thinking you know for warriors especially for fury gonna have

[00:35:05] two tracks mountain fame which we've seen a little bit of already and slayer which we have not yet

[00:35:12] seen so as you know the resident fury warrior expert around these parts representative there

[00:35:25] i don't know if i know everything but i think i'm a pretty good uh representative of the fury

[00:35:30] community i think to myself you know how could i be more what i am but more what i am but more

[00:35:42] fury warrior slayer i think to myself what what makes a fury warrior good fury warrior what is what

[00:35:49] is a hallmark weapons shoulders what we got to have obviously bigger weapons something it makes

[00:35:58] them bigger shoulders way bigger crushing my face bigger could you put truck nuts on the hilt of a

[00:36:07] sword you could i don't know if it'd be for me but it would definitely be more for sub

[00:36:14] what else what else makes us what we are so it's got to be bloodier going in a battle

[00:42:42] you know what one at least one of these you know who at least one of these is going to be about
